Ward J. Long, 92, a resident of Cottage Grove Place, died December 1, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where friends may call after 10:00 AM. Rev. Dr. Herbert Isenberg of Westminster Presbyterian Church will officiate. Private interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are his son Bob and wife Jean of Ft. Myers, FL; grandson Dr. Ryan Long and wife Dawn and their children Jaxson and Carson all of Jacksonville, FL; and one brother Robert and wife Beryle of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jimmy, and his wife of 61 years Mary.
Ward was born September 11, 1917 in Cedar Rapids the son of Angus and Clarice (Johnston) Long. He graduated from McKinley High School, and later graduated from Coe College. He was involved with ROTC in college, and served in the United States Army during WWII. After his service, he came home and went to work in the family business, Motor Equipment Company. Later, he and his brother purchased the business. He married
Mary Reynolds on March 27, 1943 in Lordsburg, NM. He and Mary shared 61 wonderful years together before Mary’s death in 2004. He then became a resident at Cottage Grove Place where he enjoyed the company of many dear friends. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was a loving father, grandfather, and brother who will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Ward’s honor are made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Raymond E. Leeper

Raymond E. Leeper, 86, of Toddville, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009, in St. Luke’s Hospital following a short illness. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 1 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 PM Sunday in Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 63 years Mabel, their children, Raymond (Marjorie) Leeper of Fife, Washington, Diana (John) Kaeser of Cedar Rapids, David (Connie) Leeper of Center Point, and Debra (Terry) Leonard of Toddville, ten grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Gertrude Brady, and Rosalie Pearson, a brother William Leeper, and a granddaughter Lori Leeper.
Raymond was born February 5, 1923 in Montrose, Iowa, to Charles and Adeline Smith Leeper. He married
Mabel A. Derr on November 6, 1946 in Charleston, Iowa. He served in the US Army during WW II. He was a building superintendent at Rinderknecht Associates Inc. from 1955 to 1988. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, dancing, and spending time with his family and friends.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Military honors provided by VFW Post No 788.

Earl James Lorenzen Sr., 91, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center died there Saturday, June 13, 2009, surrounded by his family following a lengthy illness. Services with Masonic and Military rites will be held at 11 AM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Chaplain Joe Kane of Hospice of Mercy will officiate. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Wednesday.

Earl James Lorenzen Jr., of Monticello, his brother Donald (Mary Ann) Lorenzen of Cedar Rapids, granddaughters Deb (Bob) Mreen of Cedar Rapids, Beth Gambel of Eldridge, Iowa, Katrina (Scott) Van Meter of Marengo, Ia., his step-children, Mary Walke of Cedar Rapids, Helen (George) Simpson of Center Point, John Zaruba of Marion, and Paul Zaruba of Bellevue, step –grandchildren Bill (Tina) Walke and John (Shelli) Walke of Claremore, Okla., Deb (Jeff) Schwiebert of Mount Vernon, Lori Rezab and fiancé Ryan Burrell of Quasqueton, Teresa (Dennis) Herb of Cedar Rapids, David (Kathy) Zaruba of Chicago, Ann Giest of Marion, Chuck (Michelle) Zaruba of Eagle, Colorado, Steve (Yung Me) Zaruba of Germany, Amy (Mike) Klein of Phoenix, AZ., Dawn (Mark) McCormick of Marion, and Jesse Zaruba. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren and twenty five step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Theoda, and his brother Fred.
Earl was born to Henry and Margaret Kray Lorenzen on September 15, 1917 at home in Amber, Iowa. Earl served in the Navy during WW II and was a member of the Fairfax American Legion Pekomy Post 572, Mizpah Masonic Lodge No 639 A.F. and A.M., and the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry in Cedar Rapids. He retired from Wilson’s Packing Co. in 1979. He married
Theoda Young on August 11, 1939. She passed away on November 22, 1978. He married
Mary Regina (Monaghan) Zaruba on May 3, 1980. Mary is living with her daughter in Center Point and condolence cards may be sent to her at 1301 Park Ave., Center Point, Iowa 52213.
Earl enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and cribbage with his grandson Chuck, traveling, and visiting with anyone who would sit down for a while and chat with him. He especially enjoyed going for rides in his later years and sitting down to a good dinner at family gatherings. He enjoyed a good story and his cowboy movies.
The family would like to extend our thanks to the very caring and professional staff at Northbrook Manor Care Center and especially to the staff from Mercy hospice that comforted and guided Earl on his last journey.
Masonic rites will be conducted by Mizpah Masonic Lodge No. 639 A, F, & A.M., and Military honors will be provided by Fairfax American Legion Pekomy Post 572.

Virtus C. Lorenzen, 88, of Anamosa, died May 17, 2009 in his home following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM, Saturday, May, 23, 2009 at the Olin Community United Methodist Church. Pastor Pat Slater will officiate. Friends may call from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment will take place at 3:00 PM on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Mausoleum.
Survivors include his daughter Michele Vondracek and husband Wesley of Cedar Rapids; granddaughters Kim and Kristin Vondracek both of Cedar Rapids; great grandchildren Alexis and Detrick of Cedar Rapids; a sister Lois Fisher of Mt. Vernon, and brother Grover Lorenzen and wife Mary of Olin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, a sister Helen Norton, and grandson Jason Vondracek.
Virt was born October 23, 1920 in Jones County, Iowa the son of Louis and Margaret (Rohwedder) Lorenzen. He was a graduate of Olin High School where he was involved with the 4H club showing cattle throughout the Midwest. He was united in marriage to Mary Tressa Taylor on October 1, 1943 in Anamosa. He owned and operated a crop and cattle farm near Olin for several years, as well as a farm near Anamosa. He was a previous member of the school board in Olin, a member of the Cattlemen’s Association, and one of the bank directors at Citizen’s State Bank in Wyoming and Olin. Following his retirement he enjoyed numerous trips with Mary. They would yearly travel to Hawaii, and had a memorable trip via train to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes compete in the Rose Bowl. He enjoyed golf and was a member of the Fawn Creek Country Club. He was an avid Hawkeye fan, and enjoyed watching professional sports, especially the Chicago Cubs. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many who will be greatly missed.

Alice Lambertsen

Alice Lambertsen, 92, of Crestview Acres Nursing Home, died there Monday, April 20, 2009, after a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum. Interment: Dunkard Cemetery, Midway. A visitation will be held after 9 a.m. Friday at the church.
Alice is survived by three children, Ruth (Darrell) Miskimen of Phoenix, AZ, Mary (Walt) Gorbatjuk, and Robert Lambertsen, all of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Hazel Comley of Central City; and a brother, Glenn McCreary of Pender, NE. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; a son, John; three brothers; and two sisters.
Alice was born on February 7, 1917 in Montana to Guy and Maude McCreary. She married
Robert Lambertsen on January 22, 1936 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1977. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school. She was a former Campfire Leader.
