Vernon Owens, 92, 3505 English Glen Avenue, Marion, died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids with family at his side. Services: 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 24, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1285 Third Avenue S.E., Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Jim Langley.
Vernon was born August 30, 1916, at rural Palo to Charles Albert and Elotia (Tanner) Owens. He graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1934 and attended Iowa State University.
Vernon was a prominent Benton County farmer for many years. He was known to be innovative and progressive. He served on many ag-related boards and committees in Benton and Linn Counties. Some of his favorite times were spent on horseback.
Vernon married
Hazel Carroll September 1, 1938. She died August 8, 1995. He married
Alice (Rinderknecht) Berg September 5, 1997.
Preceding Vernon in death were his parents; his wife, Hazel Owens; his daughter, Sandra Andersen; and his sister, Alberta Owens.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Alice, of Marion; daughters, Verna Owens of Erie, CO; Barbara Moss (William) of Cedar Rapids; Linda Owens of Cedar Rapids; sons, David Owens (Miracle) of Waverly, N.Y.; and Gary Owens (Vicki) of rural Palo; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family wants to thank the staff of St. Luke’s Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospice for the care and compassion shown to our loved one.

Lois H. Noah

Lois H. Noah (Ronneberg, Prosser, Harman) 78, of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, formerly of Cedar Rapids passed away Thursday November 25, at Hospice House in Mountain Home, Arkansas after a courageous three year battle with cancer. There will be a visitation from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
Lois was born October 26, 1932 in Troy, Pennsylvania to Leonard and Agnes Ronnenberg and was raised by Leonard and her step-mother Sarah in Cedar Rapids. Lois married
Richard Prosser on April 21, 1951. This union ended in divorce. She married
William Harman on August 1, 1964 and they spent 35 years together until his death on July 11, 1999. Lois married
Jack Noah on April 12, 2003 and spent the remainder of her life with him in Cherokee Village, Arkansas.
Lois worked at Rockwell Collins for several years but spent the majority of her life as a homemaker. She was a Charter member of the Master Gardener Program in Linn Count, Iowa in 1982, volunteering over 3000 hours. Lois enjoyed gardening, needle work, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. Over the last few years of her life, she became an accomplished artist and enjoyed exhibiting her paintings.
Lois is survived by her husband Jack; brothers, Leonard Ronnenberg, Charles Ronnenberg, Marvin Kuehl, Stuart Kuehl; sisters Faye Holcomb, Kay Hughes and Alayne Ronnenberg; and an aunt, Anna Leeper.
Lois will be greatly missed by her children, Richard Prosser, Indianola, Ia; Donald Prosser (Sue), Fredericksburg, Ia; Daniel Prosser, Burwick, IA; David Prosser (Marcia) Cedar Rapids, Ia; Denise Bryan (Clyde), Venango, NE, William Harman, Cedar Rapids, Tina Chaplin, Indianola, IA; Lois Emde (John), Aurora, Il. She will be missed by her 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, 4 step-children, 9 step-grandchildren, and 3 step-great grandchildren.
Lois was preceded in death be her father and step-mother, 2 brothers, Ronald Ronnenberg and Jim Kuehl; and 2 sisters, Betty Caldwell and Janice Kelly.
Lois was a loving wife, wonderful mother and proud grandmother, and her memory will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her.

Dale Allen McNeal

Dale A. McNeal, 66, 140 Carnaby Dr. NE died Monday, August 2, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital following a sudden illness. Graveside service: 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery, Chapel Garden Addition. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Surviving in addition to his wife Jalaa are two brothers, Loren McNeal of Protivin and Lyle McNeal of Hiawatha; a niece, Carol Gongwer of Marion; special pets, Gus, Tim, and Muffet; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Joe McNeal and Dean McNeal.; and his sister, Audrey Shultz.
Dale was born March 14, 1938 in Center Point the son of Avery J. and Bessie R. Reid McNeal. He married
Jalaa Domer on July 11, 1964 in Cedar Rapids. He was a security administrator at Rockwell until his retirement in 1998. Dale attended Center Point High School and graduated from Coe College. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

Orville Otto Oehler, 83, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, December 29. 2008 at Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City, after a long illness. Graveside Services: 12 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10-12 p.m. Friday, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Orville is survived by son, Steven (Mary) Oehler, and children, Jocelyn (Michael) O’Connor, and their daughter Fiona (Harold) Firster; daughter Kathy (Roger) Kelly, and children, Kristin (Brian) Chmiel, Derek and Nathan (Jenica) Kelly; and son Dr. David (Erin) Oehler, and their daughters Miranda, Olivia, and Marina. Other survivors include two sisters, Ethel Miller and Lucille Harbur; and two brothers, William and Harvey, and their families.
Orville was born November 14, 1925 in Williamsburg, IA, middle child of Otto Oehler and Louise Bretschneider. He graduated from Amana High School and was inducted into the United States Army, March 24, 1944. He served in F Company, 254th Infantry, 63rd Division, in the Rhineland and Central Europe, where he was awarded a purple heart and a bronze star. He advanced to the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged on April 5, 1946. He married
high school sweetheart Helen Louise Zimmerman on July 28, 1946 and graduated from Iowa State College in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Education. The couple farmed in the Cedar Rapids area while Orville managed the grain elevator in Walford., IA. In 1969 he earned a Master of Science degree from Iowa State University and worked for a time as the high school guidance counselor in Norway, IA. The couple retired from farming and moved to Sioux City, IA in 1995. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before she passed in October 2007.

Jim Mittan, 76, 1271 29th St. NE died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at Mercy Hallmar following a brief illness. Memorial Service: 2:00 P.M. Saturday at First Congregational Church, 361 17th St. SE. The Rev. William J. Jamison will officiate.
Surviving in addition to his wife Jeannine are two sons, Robert Mittan and wife Catalina of Charlotte, NC and Joseph Mittan and wife Diane of Holmen, WI; two daughters, Rebecca Hinton and husband Arthur of Holmen, WI and Lisa Leesekamp and husband Ed of Denver, CO; and eight grandchildren, Cinnamon Mittan, Brie Mittan, Jasmine Leesekamp, Mariah Leesekamp, Samuel Mittan, Sarah Paoli, Katelyn Mittan and Elizabeth Mittan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Samuel Mittan and a sister Gloria Meyers.
Jim was born to Thelma Mittan Reed Young on November 13, 1927 in Cedar Rapids. He married
Jeannine Williamson on August 16, 1947 in Cedar Rapids. He was the owner and operator of Carpetland from 1959 until his retirement. Following his retirement, he did sales training for the floor covering industry. Jim was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Sertoma, Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge #263, the Cedar Rapids Consistory, and the El Kahir Shrine. He was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corp. at El Kahir. Jim was a long time member of First Congregational Church, a member of Elmcrest Country Club, and was an avid golfer.

Marie A. Magner

Marie A. Magner, 92, of Mercy Hallmar died there on Thursday, July 22, 2004 after a brief illness. Services at 10 AM on Monday at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Osterhaus will officiate. Burial at 2:30 PM on Monday at Mt. Olivet cemetery in Waukon. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday where a rosary will be recited at 4 PM. There will also be a visitation after 9 AM on Monday at the Church.
Survivors include her children, Dr. Clement Magner of Milwaukee, WI., Mary L. Magner and her husband Steve Carpenter of Cedar Rapids, Thomas Magner and his wife, Peggy of Independence, Shirley Magner of Marion and a daughter in law, Cheryl Magner of Greendale, WI. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Annette Andrew Clements, Mike Magner, Peter Balik Carmen Anderson, Dave Sarah Magner, Sara Rob Scott, Jeremiah Balik, Kelly Michael Panoch, Tim Magner, Theresa Tim Simon, Annie, Molly, Becky, and Dan Magner, six great grandchildren, Allison, Megan and Mitchell Clements, Andrew Magner and Isaac and Olivia Scott. She was preceded in death by a son, Bob, two brothers, Thomas and Charles Tierney and a sister, Kathryn Schulte.
Marie was born on Nov. 22, 1911 in Hanover, the daughter of Thomas and Anna Griffin Tierney. She married
Paul R. Magner on Jan. 8, 1935 in Hanover. He died in 2000. Marie worked in food service at the University of Iowa for 15 years and retired from Mercy Hospital after 10 years of service. She was a devoted member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. She cherished her role, as wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her loving family. A memorial fund has been established in Marie's name.
