Raymond Lee Nissen, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died March 11, 2010 at Hiawatha Care Center following an extended illness. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Rev. Harlan Gillespie of St. Paul’s and Pastor William Nissen of Harvest Life Christian Fellowship will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Columbarium.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Nancy; children James Nissen and wife Rhonda of Crystal Lake, IL, Linda Ringstad and husband Kirk of Castle Rock, CO, and William Nissen and wife Pamela of Central City; a brother Alan Nissen and wife Nancy Poust of Erie, CO; and grandchildren Jacob Ringstad, Seth Ringstad, Adam Ringstad, Dan Nissen and wife Sarah, Jackie Nissen, Lauren Nissen, Nicholas Nissen, Mary Anna Nissen, Noel Kas Nissen, and Elias John Nissen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings John, Lavina, Marilyn, and George.
Raymond Lee Nissen was born May 9, 1935 in Oelwein, the son of Richard Alvin and Mary (Boldt) Nissen. He was a graduate of Oelwein High School, where he played basketball. He was All State in Basketball, competed in the North South High School Tournament in Kentucky, and held the Oelwein High School scoring record for 50 years. He was honored with the key to the City of Oelwein, and a Nissen Day Picnic was also held in his honor. After graduation, he attended Iowa State Teachers College where he also played basketball. Following graduation from ISTC he worked as an industrial arts teacher for three years, and went on to work as an insurance adjuster for Iowa Fire and Casualty, Plans Examiner for the City of Cedar Rapids, and found his love as a contractor working in carpentry and wood work. He enjoyed all types of wood working, especially making furniture and making additions to people’s homes. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and Thursday Noon Optimist Club. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Harvest Life Christian Fellowship or to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
Lillian Josephine Nemec

Lillian J. Musel Nemec, 99, of Cedar Rapids, died February 8, 2007 at her daughter Linda's home, following a brief illness. Services 9 AM Saturday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Carol Sundberg of St. Paul's United Methodist Church will officiate. Friends may call at the chapel after 8 AM on Saturday. Private Interment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
Survivors include daughters Marilyn Pansegrau of Cedar Rapids, Linda Crandall and husband Cliff of Cedar Rapids, and Arlene Cerveny and husband Virgil also of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are grandchildren Alan Paula Pansegrau, Dan Cerveny both of Cedar Rapids, Brian Jennifer Wanat Cerveny of Buffalo Grove, IL as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Stanley A. Nemec on October 19, 2004, her parents, brothers Floyd, Fred Jr., and Joe, and sister Dorothy.
Lillian Josephine Musel Nemec was born December 14, 1907 in Chelsea, Iowa the beloved daughter of Fred and Mary Dvorak Musel. She was united in marriage to Stanley A. Nemec on July 22, 1936 in Cedar Rapids. She was employed for 10 years at Northwestern Bell and later left to care for her family. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, and the African Violet Society. For many years she and husband Stanley sold their violets at the City Farmers Market. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing Yahtzee and Pinochle.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Hilda G. Schminke Maurer, 95, of 400 Canton Street, Shellsburg, died there Sunday, September 18, 2005 after a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Parker Knoll. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday at Turner West Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Survivors include her husband Walter; a daughter, Nadine Schultz of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Leona Melhaus of Newhall.
Also surviving are two grandsons, Randal Schultz of Overland Park, KS and Robert Schultz of West Simsbury, CT; a step-grandson, Mark Schultz of Cedar Rapids; five great grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, and a sister.
Hilda was born February 12, 1910 in Atkins to Henry and Elizabeth Rinderknecht Schminke. She married
Walter W. Maurer on September 30, 1934 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids where she had been an active member.

Dorothy Jeanette Odean, 83, 2501 Hwy 13, Marion died Thursday, February 1, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Services: 1:00 P.M. Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Surviving are two sons, Carl Odean Pat of Marion and Brian Odean Robin of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Judy Stoddard George of Marion, Sheryl Heiden of Cedar Rapids and Linda Cook Dave of Beach, ND; 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; a brother, Frank Phyllis Etzel of Garden City, MI; two sisters, Barbara Bob Sabo of Cedar Rapids and Reta Hunte Bob of Springville; and a daughter-in-law, Marcie Odean-Weber of Hiawatha.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl; a son, Alan Odean; a grandson, CJ Odean; and a sister, Mildred Harford.
Dorothy was born November 18, 1923 in Anamosa the daughter of Frank and Lily McGowen Etzel. She married
Carl S. Odean on October 26, 1941 in Michigan. She loved to play Bingo, was always on the go and she loved spending time with her family and friends.

William C. Riha, Jr., died Monday, April 12, 2004, in the University of Iowa Hospital after a sudden illness. Services for family and friends will be at 11:00 AM on April 16, 2004 at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. A visitation will precede the service starting at 10:00 AM.
Survivors include sons Dennis Riha Margaret, Kenneth Riha Sylvia, Richard Riha Angelica, all of Cedar Rapids, and daughter Linda Howanietz Darren of Bristol, Wisconsin; stepson Dennis Starr Shirley and stepdaughter Debbie Starr of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Marlene DeWalle, second wife Doris Starr; a sister, Lucille Pazour, a brother Ernest Riha, and his parents, William, Sr., and Regina Riha.
Bill was born in Cresco, Iowa on August 22, 1936, and grew up on Protivin, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and then moved to Cedar Rapids in 1963. He worked several years for both Hubbard Ice and Kelty Radiator Company. He was a member of the VFW and St. Wenceslaus parish.

Surviving are a daughter, Rosie Grady Bob of Cedar Rapids; a son John Oakley Mary Jo of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Jeffery Grady Roxy, Jason Grady Shawn Beldon Doug Oakley Carrie Bascom and Rebecca Oakley; seven great grandchildren, Ryan, Logan and Gage Grady, Lauren Oakley, Brody and Gavin Bascom, and Kaylah Hendrichs; a sister, Donna Bell of Cedar Rapids; and two brothers, Henry Stahr of Cedar Rapids and Ervin Stahr of North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert in 2005, a brother and a sister.
Minnie was born September 27, 1923 in Hopkinton the daughter of Henry and Hazel Davis Stahr. She married
Robert C. Oakley on April 20, 1944 in Marion. Minnie enjoyed crocheting and many other hobbies. She loved her family, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy.
