Richard Allen Osing, 74, of 2117 Greenwood Drive SE, died at Mercy Medical Center, Thursday, January 25, 2007, following a 2nd stroke. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Episcopal Church by the Rt. Rev. Alan Scarfe, Bishop of the Diocese of Iowa and Rev. Dr.William Pugliese. Private family inurnment: Christ Episcopal Columbarium. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Grant Wood Chapel from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne of 29 years; his children, Mark Osing Jan Willer of Chicago, IL, Matt Osing of Iowa City, Mary Dan Welch of Portland, OR, Steve Molly Fairchild of Cedar Rapids, and Anne Fairchild of Kennesaw, GA; 5 grandchildren, Owen Welch, Mackenna and Tucker Scofield, Kayle and Gabriel Fairchild; 2 brothers, Gordon MJ Osing of Hernando, MS, Gary Beverly Osing of Germantown, TN, ; and his sister, Rosemary Yount of Mays Landing, NJ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Madelene Osing and a brother, Robert Osing.
Richard was born on January 15, 1933 in Springfield, IL. He received his B.A. Degree in 1955 and his M.Div. Degree in 1958 from Concordia College in St. Louis, MO. Richard served as a Parish Minister in Denver, CO, Aurora, IL, Cedar Rapids, Anamosa and Cedar Falls. He also was the Executive Director for Foundation II and Linn County Council on Aging, both in Cedar Rapids. Richard was in Private Practice in Marriage and Family Counseling at the Neuro-Psychiatric Clinic in Iowa City. He published two books How To Love and Be Loved: Establishing and Maintaining Intimacy in 1992 and Love and Marriage At Midlife: Building and Rebuilding Relationships At Midlife in 1998.
Richard was very involved in the community. He was an Associate Member of the Westar Institute, home of THE JESUS SEMINAR, a research project that has been conducting the search for the Historical Jesus since 1985. Locally he was active in the Inter-Religious Council, Children of Abraham, and the Jewish-Christian Dialog. He was most recently engaged in the study of Christianity and Judaism in the first century of the Common Era, the early origins of Christianity and the rise of the New Testament Canon.
Dick's love of cooking and baking began at an early age. He spent a summer during college cooking for the crew of the Gulf, Mobile, and Ohio Railroad. He spent many hours baking bread, often with his grandchildren. Dick was a connoisseur of fine wines and looked forward to sampling his wine of the month. His passion was always books. He read voraciously and shared that passion with his children and grandchildren. He traveled extensively. He and Joanne traveled to many countries as well as in the US. He loved the time they spent in the condo in Dillon, CO.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Paul E. Power, 73, of 404 Teakwood Lane, NE, formerly of Manchester, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, in Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Memorial services at 3 PM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Jim Bauer of the Finchford Community Bible Church will officiate. Survivors include his wife Patricia, two sons Stephen of Cedar Rapids, and Brian and wife Michelle of Janesville, three daughters Pamela Thomas and husband Charles of Marion, Barbara Wheeler and husband Raymond of Cedar Falls, and Laurie Tipton and husband Gary of Cedar Rapids, a brother Glen Power of California, and eleven grandchildren, Tara Thomas, Tanya Otting, David Tipton, Julie Tipton, Tyrone Power, Nathan Power, Alissa Power, Amanda Wheeler, Jason Wheeler, Brianne and Jonathan Power, a brother in law John Hogan of Manchester, and a sister in law Eunice Power of Texas. He was preceded in death by two sisters Bernice Noyes and Virginia Hogan, and a brother Gene Power.
Paul was born August 23, 1928 in Manchester, Iowa to McKinley H. and Anna M. Helmerich Power. He married
Patricia J. Reiter on July 1, 1946 in Manchester. Paul was a toolmaker at Rockwell-Collins for 36 years retiring in 1984.

Donald Eugene Marriner

Donald Eugene Marriner, 84, a resident of the Woodlands at Meth-Wick Community, died there Thursday, April 6, 2006, following a long illness. Private graveside services will be held in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include three children, Linda Ourach and husband Bob of Fresno, California, Dave Marriner and wife Miriam of Sacramento, California, and Jane Cadwallader and husband Scott of Cedar Rapids, 6 grandchildren, twins Sarah and Leesa Cadwallader, Jordan Marriner Snell, Jeffrey Marriner, Sharon Cohen, and Brian Ourach. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Don was born April 18, 1921 in Lewiston, Maine to Robie and Alice Spear Marriner. He married
Anne Elizabeth Lawton on April 16, 1948 in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. She died February 23, 2005. Don was employed at Monsanto Chemical Corporation with a degree in Chemical Engineering. For 30 years he was Vice President of the Food and Fine Chemical Division. He had also served as president of the Pharmaceutical Manufactures Association. During WW II he was a captain in the OSS Paratroopers and receive a Bronze Star. Don will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ruth Reid, 102, of Yuma, AZ, formerly of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord Wednesday April 28, 2004, at Palm View Nursing and Rehab in Yuma after a short illness. Services at 3 PM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Tom Felts of the Urbana Christian Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel after 2 PM on Friday. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Ruth was born near Millersburg, Iowa in 1902 to Burton Cheney and Nellie Strausser, the third of eight children.
As a schoolgirl, she often played the piano for the silent movies and only knew one piece of music. When the action got fast so did her playing.
She moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she met her husband, Oval Reid . They married
and had three girls, Betty Bender of Yuma, Patsy Baker of Yuma, and Tigard, Oregon, and Jackie Molander Don of Yuma, 10 grandchildren, two grandsons are deceased. She had 22 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren, and 2 great, great, great grandchildren.
Her husband passed away in 1986. They had been married
64 years. After he retired in about 1969 they moved to Yuma. She has one sister surviving, Anna Reid of Salem, Oregon, who will celebrate her 100th birthday on May 9th.
Ruth was a great bowler and spent many hours at Mays City Bowl and was able to bowl well into her 90's. She started bowling around the age of 65.
Ruth had a generous heart never turning away a depression "hobo" and would often buy an extra cut of meat for neighbors who were out of work. She was a member of First Christian Church in Yuma.
She celebrated her 102nd birthday at a party put on by the Palm View Nursing and Rehab Center on February 28th, this year.

Karl J. Meier, 79, of Hiawatha, formerly of Marion died April 6, 2006 at his home following an extended illness. Services 10 AM Tuesday at First United Methodist Church of Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother Mamie Meier, a son Roy A. Meier, and two sisters and a brother.
Karl J. Meier was born October 1, 1926 the beloved son of George H. and Wanda Robertson Meier in Eldorado Township. He served his country honorably during WWII in the Navy as a Seabee. He married
Luella J. Wasendorf in Cedar Rapids on November 10, 1946. He worked for Rockwell Collins retiring in 1989 following 29 years of service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Marion, a 50 year member of Marion American Legion # 298, and IBEW Local # 1362 where he was a union steward. He enjoyed gardening, planting roses, playing bingo, but most of all his beloved grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Vance C. Oliphant

Vance C. Oliphant, 83, of 4580 Johnson Ave NW #8, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at his home following a short illness. Services will be at 10:30 AM Monday in St. Mark's United Methodist Church. Rev. Gary Hoyt will officiate. Burial with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday and at the church after 9:30 AM on Monday.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years Lois "Lorraine", three sons Gary of Cedar Rapids, Dennis of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Dale of Pearland, Texas, a sister Verna Cabbage of Odessa, Texas, a granddaughter Carrie Enos, and three great grandchildren Maria, Morgan, and Christian Enos, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Velma and Naida; and three brothers, Wayne, Lynn, and Ross.
Vance was born on February 18, 1925 in Belle Plaine, Iowa to Garnet Oliphant, the recent widow of Fred Oliphant. He graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1943 and served in the Army Air Corps from July, 1943, until April, 1946. He married
Lois Lorraine Phelps on November 14, 1948 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was employed by Collins Radio Company as an industrial engineer and assembly line supervisor for 20 years; by Turner Microphone Co. in the same capacity for 7 ½ years, and by Telex Communications, Inc. for 10 years after they acquired Turner Microphone. He retired November 1, 1989 and returned to Cedar Rapids to be near family members.
He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and Hanford American Legion Post #5. His hobbies included writing poetry and stamp collecting. He was devoted to his Friday morning Bible Study.
