NEW HAMPTON -- Elgin Pearce, 83, of New Hampton, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton, of natural causes; survivors include two sons, Rodney of New Hampton and Sid of Des Moines; two granddaughters; two sisters, Juanita Evans of Sunland, Calif., and Rose Randall of Albert Lea, Minn.; and a brother, Oliver Amelsberg of LaCrescenta, Calif.; she was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, on July 17, 1997; and 12 brothers and sisters; services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton, with burial in New Hampton Cemetery; friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Conway Funeral Home, New Hampton, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church; Mrs. Pearce worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., for a short time; she later worked as a cook at the New Hampton Public School, then managed and operated Elgin's Dairy Creme from 1967 until retiring in 1974.
FAIRBANK -- Daniel Curtis Peine, 49, of rural Fairbank, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at his home of cancer; survivors include is wife, Karen; a son, Aaron Daniel of Fairbank; a daughter, Lori Marie Peine of Fairbank; his father, Wallace of Piqua, Kan.; three brothers, Ronald of Fairbank, Richard of Readlyn and Alan of Odedolt; and two sisters, Andrea Gerstenberger of Holt, Mo., and Debra Heineman of Fairbank; he was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Peine; and grandparents, Curtis and Genevieve Peine and Arthur Callies; services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, both in Fairbank; friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank, where there will be a 3:30 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture service; memorials may be directed to the family; a 1969 graduate of Wapsie Valley High School, Mr. Peine had been employed at Terex, Waverly; he served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1973.
