Elizabeth J. "Betty" MacKenzie, 86, of 210 19th St. NE, died Monday, October 15, 2007, in St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Services will be private with entombment in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories Mausoleum. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her sister Virginia Hartmann of Buena Park, California, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Alvard "Dick" Reed and Col. James Reed, and a sister Marilyn Hermann.
Betty was born February 11, 1921 in Cedar Rapids to Porter and Ruth Seelye Reed. She married
William D. MacKenzie on September 4, 1940 in River Forest, Illinois. He died January 4, 1971.
Betty enjoyed dancing and spending time with her family and friends.

Beverly Jean Oler, 73, of Lisbon, died at Mercy Medical Center, Friday, August 25, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. John Keizer of Springville United Methodist Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and after 12:30 p.m. Monday at the chapel.
Survivors include her husband, Claude; two sons, Terry Connie Osler Oler of Lisbon and Randy Dixie Oler of Le Claire; five grandchildren, Benjamin, Robert, Chase, Curtis, and Tina and two great grandchildren, Abigail and Zachary.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents.
Beverly was born on October 8, 1932 in Cedar Rapids to Merle and Loretta Vander Mark O'Connor. She married
Claude E. Oler in Lisbon on December 31, 1950. Beverly loved to go shopping, country dancing and playing poker video machines. She also loved Hawkeye basketball and her beloved pet, Tuffy.
A memorial fund has been established.
Robert W. Rudd Sr

Robert W. Rudd, Sr., 77, 2801 Teresa Dr. SW died Monday, July 5, 2004 at his home following a brief illness. Services are private. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; five sons, Robert Rudd, Jr of Seattle, WA, David Rudd, Tracy Rudd, and Richard Rudd all of Cedar Rapids, and Thomas Rudd of Ely; a brother, Dewey Rudd of Manchester; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Dorothy and Patty.
Robert was born November 24, 1926 in Cedar Rapids the son of Dewey and Hazel Newton Rudd. He married
Nancy Pealer on May 17, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. He was a refrigeration technician for Climate Engineering until his retirement in 1989. Robert was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #125 and the Jones Park Retired Men's Golf Association. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II from 1944 to 1950 in the Pacific Theatre. Robert was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather,

Joseph Wayne Quaid

Joseph Wayne Quaid, 82, of 3430 Queen Drive SW, died at home, Tuesday, July 24, 2007, after a lengthy illness. Wayne chose to be cremated and there will be no services. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of 58 years; 3 sons, James Elaine Quaid of Cedar Rapids, John Denise Quaid of Gulfport, MS, and Jeff Tish Quaid of Wichita, KS; 2 daughters, Cathryn Tom Soppe of Anamosa and Carolyn Bush of Hiawatha; a sister Arlene Fiala of Cedar Rapids; 16 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and a very good friend, James "Howdy" Anderson of Spooner, WI. who was a frequent visitor to Wayne and Ruth.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Kristen Marie; an infant sister, Eileen; a sister Anita Connors; 2 brothers Raymond and Donald Quaid; and 2 brothers-in-law, Frank Connors and Wencil Fiala.
Wayne was born on April 27, 1925 in rural Ryan to Joseph and Anna Meighan Quaid, the youngest of 6 children. He married
Ruth Elliott on December 28, 1949 in Cedar Rapids. Wayne was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving 2 of his 3 years in the South Pacific. After the war he was in the Quaid family lumber and construction business. In 1968 a back injury forced him to change careers when he joined Killians as a salesman in Home Furnishings. He remained with the store until it closed, retiring in 1982.
Wayne had a great fondness for nature, especially birds and animals. He liked to tent camp and trout fish alone or with his family. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards and golf. He and Ruth had a beautiful life together with lots of laughter, some tears, and the joys of raising a family. Wayne was a member of the VFW #788 and the American Legion Post #5.
May God find Wayne a good trout stream for his favorite sport.

Gladys P. Myers, 89, of Winslow House Care Center in Marion passed away Monday, October 23, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital following a lengthy illness. Services: 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4PM to 7PM at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. John Nesley will officiate.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Myers and wife Patt of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Barbara Waterhouse-Miller and husband Dr. Don of Cedar Rapids, Sandra Butler and husband Chuck of Iowa Falls and Deana Bulechek and husband Don of Iowa City; 8 grandchildren, Dean, Kirk, Tammy, Tonya, Mary, Rhonda, Anita and Davona; 16 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a sister, Donna Smith and husband Harold of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Wilbur, Raymond and Marvin; three sisters, Ruth, Lois and Edna; and two grandchildren, Creg and Theresa.
Gladys was born March 5, 1917 in Quasqueton the daughter of Junius W. and Ollie Blankenburg Walton. She married
Lee Layton Myers on February 28, 1935 in Independence. She was a loving mother who enjoyed quilting and sewing, and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Alden (Al) H. Quick

Alden (Al) H. Quick, 99, died October 23, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. As per his wishes he has been cremated, and there will be no funeral service. A memorial service may be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include two daughters, Constance Quick-Hill of Green Valley, AZ and Deborah Connor of Iowa City; his son, Terrence and wife Pat of Marion; grandchildren, Staci of Cedar Rapids, Michael of Lamont, Nancy of Mebane, NC, Scott and wife Christina of Mobile, AL and Eban and wife Sherrie of Davenport; two great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his special friend, Ruth.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Adell of more than 60 years, son Steven, brother Robert and sister Avis.
Al was born September 8, 1912 in Mineral Point, WI the son of Henry R. and Mary Quick. He was united in marriage to Adell Parmiter on February 21, 1935 in Sussex, WI. She preceded him in death in 1996. He graduated from college at the Platteville School of Mines, Platteville, WI. Throughout his lifetime he had a variety of engineering jobs. He retired after many years with the US Government in the Civilian Service branch.
Al was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where he had so many friends who were like family to him. He loved to visit with people and we all enjoyed hearing of his many adventures that occurred during his long life. He will be truly be missed by all who knew him.
