Marian M. Niebes Merritt, 80, a resident of Linn Manor Care Center, Marion, died December 23, 2007 following a brief illness. Friends may call Wednesday, December 26, 2007 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where the services of committal will take place at 10:30 AM. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at 11:15 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, Hiawatha. Rev. Daniel Krueger will officiate. Private Interment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter Colleen M. Matthews and husband Bob of Justin, TX; a son Mark A. Merritt and wife Dixie of Marion; a brother Oscar Niebes; grandchildren Ettinah Kent of Cedar Rapids, Chad Merritt and wife Anna of Monterey, CA, and Barry and Brock Sullivan of Hurst, TX. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 6 step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn E. Merritt, her parents Elmer and Irma Niebes, and her brother Emlyn Niebes.
Marian Mathilde Niebes Merritt was born April 18, 1927 in Benton, County, Iowa the beloved daughter of Elmer J.F. and Irma M. Kallsen Niebes. She was united in marriage to Glenn E. Merritt on April 4, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. She was employed for 28 years at Rockwell Collins, retiring in 1992 as a key punch operator. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was involved with bible study, the card club, and the LWML. She greatly enjoyed the company of her friends and family and held her religion close to her. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend of many and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Elna Mae McDonough

Elna Mae McDonough, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died December 26, 2007 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, December 31, 2007 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
Survivors include her sons Edward McDonough Jr. and wife Charlene of Cedar Rapids, and Craig McDonough and wife Suzanne of Walford. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward M. McDonough, Sr., her parents Ronald and Alma Rose, her daughter Joyce Louise Hite, her son Brian Lee McDonough, and her brothers Keith and Walter Rose.
Elna Mae McDonough was born July 20, 1920 in Olin, Iowa the beloved daughter of Ronald and Alma Williams Rose. She was united in marriage to Edward M. McDonough on December 24, 1938 in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2006. Though the majority of her working career was in the family home she was employed at several places throughout her life which included The Gazette, Cedar Rapids School Board, Robinson's Department Store, and Paramount Pharmacy. Elna was an avid bowler, bingo player, and an immense fan of the Chicago Cubs. She was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church. Elna was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many and will be greatly missed by those who loved her dearly.

Lois E. Noring

Lois E. Noring, 75, of 2428 Southland St. SW, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, May 16, 2009. Services at 1 PM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Herbert Knudten of Grinnell, Iowa, will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Wednesday.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years E. Paul, their son Douglas, and daughter Beth Pleggenkuhle and husband Bruce, of Carrollton, Texas, son Ted and wife Kris of Cedar Rapids, a brother in law Edmund Noring of Plano, Texas, and five grandchildren, Jill and Amy Pleggenkuhle, and Ben, Sam, and Grace Noring. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Lois was born April 2, 1934 in Wheatland, Iowa to Emil and Mabel Freese Endorf. She married
E. Paul Noring on February 25, 1956 in Wheatland. She was a Registered Nurse at Mercy Medical Center from 1957 to 1994. She was a Mercy Hospice Patient Volunteer and Mercy Auxiliary Board President. She was diagnosed twice with breast cancer, and was a survivor for 22 years. She was a patient advocate for the National Cancer Institute. She was very active with the American Cancer Society and had received the National St. George Award, the highest award for a volunteer.

John Raymond Miller

John Raymond Miller, 91, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, December 28, 2007, in the Hiawatha Care Center, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, St. Paul's United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. Burial: Wednesday, Hoult cemetery, rural Chrisman, Edgar County, Ill. Jack is survived by three daughters, Patricia Sweet and husband Merle of Madison, WI, Jean Welander and husband Kurt of St. Louis Park, MN, and Joan Minney and husband Douglas of Cedar Rapids: seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Jack was born June 27, 1916 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Ray G. Miller and Minnie Claire Weigel. John married
Rachel Adelaid Hannah on Feb. 7, 1942 in Dubuque. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year before Rachel died in May.
He attended the University of Dubuque and graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II stationed in St. Louis. After leaving the service he was employed by Collins Radio Co. in Cedar Rapids for 28 years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Radio Relay League.

Pearl Evangeline Moeller

Pearl E. Moeller, 103, of Mercy Hallmar died Tuesday, February 26th from complications of age. A memorial service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories on Friday, February 29th at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Jana Swenson of St. Mark's Lutheran Church will officiate, assisted by Rev. Alfred Kaupins. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery, Belle Plaine, Iowa immediately following the service. A private family gathering will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home the night before. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service.
Pearl was born on July 25, 1904 in Dunnell, MN the daughter of Selma and Albin Johnson. She married
Orrin Moeller on September 16, 1928. He died in 1960. They moved to Belle Plaine in 1937 where they enjoyed many wonderful years raising their family. She then moved to Cedar Rapids in 1975. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son Dr. Darby Moeller and wife Carol of Ft. Collins, CO., a daughter Darla Clark and husband Jack of Cedar Rapids, a daughter-in-law Aleda Moeller Peters wife of the late Dr. Arlyn Moeller of Fayetteville, NC., and a sister Evelyn Sime of Humboldt, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Orrin and her son Dr. Arlyn Moeller. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hallmar for the wonderful care they gave their mother. Their kindness and compassion was much appreciated.
Memorials may be given to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
Pearl's long journey in life is over. She has no more fears, no more worries for she is Home.
Robert Louis Maresh

Robert L. Maresh, 82, of Cedar Rapids died February 27, 2008 while on vacation in Orange Beach, Alabama. Robert Louis Maresh was born January 3, 1926 in Cedar Rapids, the beloved son of Emil J. and Elma Campbell Maresh. He graduated from Morgan Park High School in Chicago, and later attended Valparaiso Tech. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Grace Hannemann on April 3, 1948 at the Morgan Park United Methodist Church in Chicago. He was employed for 34 years as an engineer and avionics instructor at Rockwell Collins, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Richard Maresh.
