Ruth Ballard Rathjen, 88, 3175 Sandy Beach Road, Solon died Sunday, November 7, 2004 at her home following a long illness. Memorial Services: 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the Unity Center 3791 Blairsferry Road NE by the Rev. Thelma Hembroff. Friends may call from 10 AM to 11 AM at the Unity Center on Saturday. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Surviving are a daughter, Ruthann Huberty and husband Christopher of Solon; two sons, Ronald Rathjen and wife Sharon of Missouri City, TX and David Rathjen; a sister, Opal Grove and husband Joe of South English; a grandson, Craig and his wife Donna of Houston, TX; great grandchildren, Jeremy, Beau, Kirby, and Colton; a special nephew, Bill Grove of Cedar Rapids; a special niece, Louise Davis of Marengo; a special pet, Zoe; and several other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ervin, a twin sister Rena and eight other brothers and sisters.
Ruth was born March 17, 1916 in Parnell the daughter of John and Bertha Riffel Ballard. She married
Ervin Rathjen on June 28, 1935 in Williamsburg. She was an inspector at Collins Radio for more than 20 years, retiring in 1981. She attended the Unity Center, and was retired from the IBEW.
Memorials may be made to the Unity Center Building Fund or to Hospice of Mercy.

Terry Dean Overhulser, 55, of 342 26th St. NW died Sunday July 25, 2010 at St. Lukes Hospital of an apparent heart attack. Services at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Bob Voels will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, a daughter, April and her fiancé, Jaeson, a son, T.J. and a sister, Laura Overhulser all of Cedar Rapids, and one brother, Tim (Shari) of Haywarden. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne.
Terry was born on September 19, 1954 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Wayne and Mary Ann McQuillin Overhulser. He married
Mary L. Schoner on November 14, 1987 in Cedar Rapids. Terry was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid Yankee, Viking and Hawkeye fan.
Terry met every challenge in life with courage and a smile on his face. He lived every minute with one mission in life, to make everyone happy. Terry was a wonderful husband, father, brother, friend and it was an honor and joy to have known and loved him.

Roxane M. Marconi, 49, of 1287 35th St. NE. lost her courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Saturday June 20, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass: 10:00 AM on Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Rev. David O’Connor of All Saints Catholic Church. Burial at Mt. Calvary cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday where there will be a vigil service at 4:30 PM.
Survivors include her husband, Brian, her father, John Burke of Cedar Rapids, a brother, John Burke III of Seattle, Washington and three sisters, Dotti Burke of Cedar Rapids, Lori (Paul) Margulies of Perksee, Pennsylvania and Mary (Todd) Zieser of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; Scott and Kitaen Jackson, Sean, Christina and Joey Burke, Sage Zieser, Brittni Lilly and Roxane’s and Brian’s dog, Sammy. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth.
Roxane was born on May 3, 1960 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John and Ruth Wilken Burke. She graduated from All Saints Catholic Grade School and later at Regis High School. She married
Brian M. Marconi on May 14, 2005 in Cedar Rapids. Roxane was a planned giving supervisor at Ruffalo Cody for several years.
Roxane’s greatest joy was her friends and family. She was an ace cake decorator and would hold holiday baking sessions for Anna, Raider and Sage. Recently, she was able to enjoy a trip to New York with one of her best friends, LeAnne in which she saw several Broadway Shows. She loved and collected Peter Pan memorabilia and had a beautiful Christmas village that the children looked forward to every year.
She enjoyed the solitude and tranquility of Roger and Patti’s cabin where she spent her last few days. She battled cancer with a positive attitude and was an inspiration to us all. We are all better people for knowing her.

Doris Kay McNulty

Doris Kay McNulty, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, in the VA Hospital in Des Moines following a short illness. Memorial services with military honors will be held at 11 AM Monday in Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 10 AM to service time on Monday.
Survivors include her son Steven, two daughter-in-laws Glenda and Susan, a sister in law Erma Cartano of Cedar Rapids, and four grandchildren, Jennifer, Dawn Liz, Micheal, and Shawna. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son David.
Doris was born December 10, 1923 in Cedar Rapids to Thomas and Maude Schultz Newman. She married
Edward D. McNulty on January 8, 1951 in Iowa City, Iowa. He died in 2007. Doris was a nurse at the VA Hospital in Iowa City and St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. She was a WW II US Navy Veteran. She was a member of the Waves, Marion American Legion Post No 298, and numerous other organizations.
Her family wishes special thanks to the Staff at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown especially to Renee, and the staff at the VA Hospital in Des Moines.
Military honors will be provided by the Marion American Legion Post No 298.

Alice Maye Pankey, 81, formerly of 2905 Meadowbrook Dr. SE, died Wednesday, Feb 26, 2003, at Manor Care Health Services following a long illness. Services: 11:00 AM Friday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, by Rev. Linda Bibb of Salem United Methodist Church. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 PM Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and after 10:00 am Friday at the Chapel of Memories.
Survivors include a son, Richard L. Pankey and wife Heidi, two daughters Diann Weininger and husband William, all of Cedar Rapids, and Frances Ealy of LaPorte City; a brother Richard Behlmer and wife Fern, a sister Martha Jensky, all of Illinois; seven grandchildren: Chris Weininger and wife Amy, Melissa Zachman and husband Jeff, Jason Weininger, Phillip Pankey and fianc? Lori Harju, Corey Ealy and wife Amy, Casey Ealy, Kendalyn Ealy and fianc? Nicholas Hindahl; great-granddaughters Breanna Zachman, Kaelyn Ealy, Paige Weininger and Raegan Zachman: great-grand sons Gavin Zachman, Cade Ealy and Riley Pankey.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Lee who died February 17, 1998.
Alice was born Sept. 26, 1921 in Chicago, Ill. to Harvey and Virginia Talbot Behlmer. After graduating from Proviso High School she attended the American Academy of Fine Arts to study dress design. She married
Lee Pankey on September 1, 1945, in Maywood, Ill. During her career Alice worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company, Younkers, and as a floral designer for Lewellen's Florist and Four Seasons. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Anna Abigail Circle.
Alice dearly loved her family, always feeling fortunate that they lived close by and visited often. Alice was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and a wonderful cook. Her care and compassion for her family and sense of humor will be missed by all.

Roland “Ron" E. Nievas, 82, of Cedar Rapids, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 11, 2010 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Osterhaus will officiate with burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 PM on Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a vigil service by Deacon Tom Walsh at 3:00 PM.
Survivors include his wife and loving companion Patricia; son Larry (Kitty) Nievas; daughter Cindy (Jeff) Mumm; grandchildren Lindsay Willard, Dustin Willard, Ashley Mumm, and Andrea (Nievas) Rodden; step grandchildren Tina (Jesse) Sarley, Denae (Mark) Waldbusser, and Melissa Supple. Also surviving are several great grandchildren; his special sister Carol (Nievas) Kramer; niece Tina (Doug) Fulton; and nephews Mark (Diane) Kramer, and Jim (Amy) Kramer.
He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Rynilda Nievas; son David Lee Nievas; in-laws Harry and Cora Bock; and brother-in-law James Kramer.
Roland was born December 11, 1927 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Earl and Rynilda (Roeder) Nievas. Roland graduated from St. Patrick School in May of 1945. He started working for the Cedar Rapids Gazette upon graduation until he retired on December 31, 1989. Ron married
Patricia Bock on August 5, 1951 making their home in Cedar Rapids. They had three children; Larry Alan, David Lee, and Cynthia Ann. Ron enjoyed teaching his children to ice skate, ride bikes and to play ball. Ron was active in the Emerald Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, Iowa Speed Skating Club, Scouting, Baseball, and Kennedy wrestling. Ron and Pat liked to travel, taking the children all over the United States. As the children grew up he was delighted to show the grandchildren one week of vacation the sites he had shown his children. He liked to follow the Kennedy Sports, Honor Choir, Show choir and following their progress in growing up. Ron liked the Iowa Hawkeyes and rarely missed a game. His home, family, and JD were his love and life.
Ron’s life ended the way he wanted, spending the holidays with his family, and seeing his Iowa Hawkeyes win the Orange Bowl!
