Shirley Meyers, 71, of rural Tiffin, IA died Monday morning, July 6, 2009 at Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, following a brief illness.
Funeral Service: 11 AM on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 pm to 8 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Shirley Viola Meyers was born in Whitewater, Wisconsin on August 3, 1937 to Thomas and Alice Mirch Armitage. She married
Emil Meyers on January 4, 1955 in Iowa City, Iowa. Shirley worked at Farmstead for 27 years and Hawkeye Convenient Store for 18 years.
She is survived by her husband, Emil of Tiffin; children, Loreen (Paul) Boots, Jim Meyers, Dennis (Janice) Meyers all of Cedar Rapids, and Sharon (Larry) Eister of Tiffin; 1 brother, William Armitage of Florida; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Thomas.
Mildred L. Miller
Born in Delhi on March 20, 1932
Departed on November 25, 2009. Resided in Toddville, Iowa.
Mildred L. Miller, 77, of 3570 Hagerman Rd, Toddville, died Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Pastor Burr Bryant of the Alburnett United Methodist church will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Surviving to honor her memory are her husband of 59 years George, four sons, Wayne (Pam) of Chillicothe, Illinois, Edward (Sheryl) of Toddville, Allyn (Amy) and David (Melody) all of Alburnett, three sisters Neva Meehan of Montana, Bethel Toms of Arizona, and Ruth (Ray) Frazer of Colorado, eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Leonard, three sisters Hazel, Katherine, and Edith, three brothers Glenn, Dan, and “Bud", and two grandsons Thomas and Timothy.
Mildred was born March 20, 1932 in Delhi, Iowa to Joseph and Lillian Johnson Davis. She married
George A. Miller on November 11, 1950 in Anamosa, Iowa. She was a homemaker and member of the Alburnett United Methodist Church. Her hobbies include ceramics, painting, quilting, embroidery, reading, word puzzles, watching game shows, gardening, and most of all caring for her family.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Thelma M. Ross, 85 of the Linn Manor Care Center in Marion, and former resident of Cedar Rapids, died there Wednesday following a long illness. Services: 1 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by Grant L. Hagen, Administrator at the Linn Manor Care Center. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and at the Chapel of Memories after noon on Friday.
Surviving besides her husband David, are 2 daughters, Pam Sorenson of Cedar Rapids and Nancy Justis and husband Bob of Cedar Falls, Iowa, 3 grandchildren, Brett Proskovec, Jodi Wauters and Nicole Justis and 3 great grandchildren, Zakary Wauters, Whitney Jo Wauters and Drew Proskovec.
Thelma was born on August 29, 1919 at Buffalo, New York and was married
to C. David Ross on August 19, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1937 and formerly had been employed by the LaPlante - Chote Company and the Crissman and Lawrence Law firm in Cedar Rapids. She was a former member of the Cedar Boat Club.
Thelma was one of three residents in her neighborhood in 1950 that had contracted Polio. She fought the disease courageously for 54 years.
The family would like to thank the staff and administration at the Linn Manor Care Center for all of their loving care and support for the time that Thelma was a resident there.

Glenn Nelson Marshall

Glenn N. Marshall, 81, of 4617 Pine View Drive NE, died November 30, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a long illness. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, December 4, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Masonic Rites will take place on Thursday at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Private inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 61 years, Jackie; children Monty Marshall and wife Donna of Severn, Maryland, and Wendy Tjelmeland and husband Marty of Ft. Collins, Colorado. Also surviving are his sister Patricia Murphy of Cedar Rapids; 5 grand children, and one great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and his daughter Cindy Kloubec.
Glenn Nelson Marshall was born September 21, 1928 in Monticello, Iowa the son of Harold R. and Margaret E. (Stott) Marshall. He was a graduate of Wyoming High School, and later attended the Milwaukee College of Engineering. He was united in marriage to Jacqueline White on September 2, 1948 in Davenport. He worked as an electrical contractor for many years, and owned and operated Marshall Electric. He also in later years owned and operated the King Tut Lounge. He was a member of Trojan Masonic Lodge # 548 and Kingston Masonic Lodge # 676 A.F. & A.M, and El Kahir Shrine where he served as Chaplain Emeritus. He was a member of the Royal Court of Scotland, and was Grand Commander of the Knights Templar in Iowa in 1994. In 2008 he served as Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of Iowa A.F. & A.M. He also lead the Knights Templar Eye Foundation for 17 years. He continually gave to Masonry throughout Iowa, and will forever be remembered for his contributions to the organizations he belonged to. He also enjoyed golf, bowling, and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed.
The family requests memorial donations in Glenn’s honor are made to the Knights Templar Eye Foundation or to the American Cancer Society.
Eleanor Hubly Marks

Eleanor Walkinshaw Hubly Marks, 99, passed away Friday, December 11, 2009. A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 14, at Cottage Grove Place, 2115 First Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA where Eleanor lived for years. Burial will be at Battle Creek Memorial Park in Battle Creek, MI.
Born on March 5, 1910 in Augusta, MI to Fred and Mabel Walkinshaw, Eleanor moved to Battle Creek when she was in high school, where she met John Hubly. She earned a B.A. degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1932 and was married
to John Hubly a year later. They moved from Battle Creek to Youngstown, OH in 1949 and to Cedar Rapids in 1955. John and Eleanor were married
for 48 years before he died in 1981. Eleanor married
Stanley Marks in 1989 and he died five months later.
In addition to being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Eleanor had a long and active volunteer career. She was a member of the Junior League of Cedar Rapids, P.E.O., Monday League, the Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club, First Presbyterian church and the Cedar Rapids Country Club. She loved gardening, golfing, dancing and traveling, in addition to family gatherings.
Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles Walkinshaw, two husbands and a grandson, Jonathan Boller. She is survived by three children: David Hubly, Denver, CO, Jane (Max) Boller of Minneapolis, MN, and Jim (Susan) Hubly, Seattle, WA, as well as her former daughter-in-law, Barbara Jo Hubly, Boulder, CO. Also surviving are eight grandchildren with the ninth expected in June: Kristen Petersmith, Bailey, CO;; Scott Hubly, Ault, CO; Mark Hubly, Tucson, AZ; Andrew Boller, Minneapolis; Matt Boller, Madison, WI; Anne-Marie Boller, Chicago, IL; Amanda Loudermilk, Seattle, and Cam Hubly, Virginia Beach, VA and 13 great grandchildren. A great great grandchild is also expected in June.
The family would like to thank the Home Choice caregivers and the Cottage Grove nursing staff for the excellent care they gave Eleanor for several years.

Dr. Harold W. Olmsted 88, of 1252 29th Street NE, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, following a long illness. Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Mark Osterhaus of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church will officiate. Burial with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 AM to service time on Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Surviving to honor his memory are his wife Ada, daughter Susan (Ron) Stookey of Des Moines, step-daughter Cheryl (David) Smith of Central City, and step-son James Waterhouse of Minneapolis, Minnesota, two grandchildren, 1 step grandchild, 1 great grandchild, and one step great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Harold was born January 4, 1921, in Clarinda, Iowa, to Earl and Berneice Winters Olmsted. He married
Ada Waterhouse on December 9, 1988 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a peacetime US Navy Veteran. He was a Dentist in Cedar Rapids for nearly 40 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church and enjoyed golf, sporting events, and fishing.
