Minh Ke Nguyen: 68, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday morning, October 13, at St. Lukes Hospital. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home today from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Memorial services will be held Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the funeral home with cremation to follow.

Sharon K. McKibbin, 68, of 1050 Center Street NE, died Saturday October 16, 2010 in the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinic. Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 12:30 p.m. at the church on Thursday. The Rev. Harlan Gillespie and Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate.
Survivors include her husband Jim McKibbin and a son, Jason J. McKibbin of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Sharon was born November 6, 1941 in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of Herb and Maytha Lowman Hibbs. She married
Jim McKibbin on December 28, 1973 in Cedar Rapids. Sharon was a teacher for Emmerson and Longfellow Schools retiring in 1996. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and was very active in the church. She was an excellent baker, great organizer of events and enjoyed walking. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A memorial fund has been established by the family.
Mary Lou Midcalf

With the grace of an angel and surrounded by her loving family, Mary Lou Midcalf, 78, passed away on Friday October 8th 2010 after a seven year battle with ovarian cancer. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Robert Landis will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her loving husband and dance partner in life for 57 years, Carol, daughters, Jan, Debbie (Gilbert)Peters of Dearborn, Michigan; grandchildren, Todd Peters (Danielle) of North Aurora, Illinois, Sara Peters of Irmo, South Carolina; sister Betsy Jean Garlinghouse; brother-in-law, Carl (Avis) Kimball; nieces and nephews, Dianne Baker, Mary (Dennis) Brown, Denise Krejci (Bud Gillespie), Jackie (Alan) Achenbach; Jim (Tammy) Vaverka, Paul Garlinghouse (Leann Hinker), Spencer Garlinghouse, Dale (Barb) Garlinghouse Josh and Zachary Garlinghouse, Peter (Linda) Garlinghouse, Betsy (Brett) Hoffman; special friends, Sally, Ulla, Donna Dee, Flo, Margaret, Donna Rae, Ellen, Joann, Salha, Delores, Anita, Gert, and Pauline as well as her devoted felines, Ms. Mitzi, Charlie Ray and Morris. Those greeting her in heaven are her parents, sister Dorothy Vaverka, and step father William McTavish.
Mary Lou was born on November 20, 1931 the daughter of Byron and Gertrude Anderson. She graduated from Franklin High School and married
the love of her life in 1953. Mary Lou was a professional seamstress retiring from Northwest Fabric after many years of service.
Above all her warm heart and sparkling personality attracted many people to her and she held them all as a top priority in her life.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Midcalf family.

Esther May Miller, 67, of Marion passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Pastor Brice Hughes will officiate with burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 PM Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband Robert Jan Miller of Marion; two sons Kenneth Lee (Judy) Miller of Cedar Rapids, and Keith Loren (Mary) Miller of Cedar Rapids; grandson Adam John Miller (Mandii); a great granddaughter Azaylea Rose Miller; two brothers William and Robert Dryer; and three sisters Ruth Richard, Carol Zavada, and Martha Floyd.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son Kevin Lance Miller.
Esther was born October 27, 1942 in Napa, CA the daughter of William and Hazel (Woods) Dryer. She married
Robert Jan Miller on July 7, 1961 in Casper, WY. Esther worked as office coordinator for Life Investors and for PMX Industries Inc. Esther was a member of the Marion Christian Church, Embroiderers’ Guild of America, Inc., and she attended Milestones Day Care.

Jessie Lynn Nagle, 84, of Cedar Rapids died Monday, February 15th at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, Iowa. Services will be held Wednesday, February 24th at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. There will be no visitation. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel. Inurnment will be in the Rotunda at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.
Survivors include a son, John D. Nagle and wife Jean of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; daughter Cynthia L. Youngblut and husband Tom, of Osage, Iowa; one granddaughter, Tiffany Lynn Nagle of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three grandsons, Bradley Thomas Youngblut, wife Emily and son Will of Ankeny, Iowa; Michael John Youngblut and wife Erin of Dubuque, Iowa; and Toby John Booth of Winterhaven, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, brothers, husband John and daughter Carmela.
She was born June 26, 1925, to Luther Wesley and Woodie (Rothwell) McQuerry. She graduated from Williamsburg High School and the Cedar Rapids Business College. She was united in marriage to John Edward Nagle on May 22, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He died in December 1987. She helped her husband in his insurance claim adjustment business, “Nagle Adjustment Service, " until his retirement in 1983. She did life-long secretarial work, the most recent of which was at the firm of Simmons, Perrine, Albright and Ellwood for twenty years, as personal secretary to Justin W. Albright, now deceased.
Her extracurricular activities included swimming, bowling, graphology (handwriting analysis) and astrology. She was a certified water safety instructor and taught mentally challenged children. She also was an active member of the Aquarelles synchronized swim team for twenty years. The team was inducted into the Swimming Hall of Fame in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, in 1969. She taught astrology in the evening adult classes at Kirkwood for twenty-eight years, retiring in the year 2000. She was an accredited member of the American Federation of Astrologers, having passed the Board Exam on both the Teacher and Professional levels. She presented several seminars and workshops at International Astrology Conventions and also gave many local lectures to club groups, with guest appearances on television and radio. She was guest-lecturer twice on the cruise ship “Norway" in the Caribbean. She conducted a series of mini-lessons on television, called “The Astrologer’s Corner, " and wrote a weekly column for newspapers. She touched the lives of many people.

Donald J. Merfeld, 81, of Heritage Nursing and Rehab passed away there peacefully on Thursday September 23, 2010. Funeral Mass: 10:30 AM on Monday at All Saints Catholic Church. Rev. David O’Connor will officiate. Inurnment at Mt. Calvary cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday where there will be a rosary and vigil service at 4:00 PM. Friends may also call at the Church after 9:30 AM on Monday.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Fern, three daughters, Diane (Adam) Condrick of Darnestown, Maryland, Pamela Merfeld of Gaithersburg, Maryland and Amy (Ronald Cook) Merfeld of Winneconne, Wisconsin; a son, Richard (Dagmar) of Dubuque; a brother, Mike of Cedar Rapids and a sister Ann Mattson of Newport News, Virginia. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Erick, Elijah, Ehren and his extended family at Heritage Nursing and Rehab. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Don was born on January 6, 1929 in Cascade, the son of Michael and Bertha Bries Merfeld. He married
Fern VerCande on June 13, 1959 in Victor. Don worked at FMC in data processing and retired from there after many years of service. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus, Council 5677. Don enjoyed fishing, baseball, playing bingo, going to the casino and especially the time he spent with his many friends and beloved family.
Memorial donations may be given to the All Saints Social Hall Kitchen in Don’s name.
Merlyn A. "Curly" Myers

Merlyn A. “Curly" Myers, 91, of 320 33rd St. NE died Monday Sept.20, 2010 at his home after a sudden illness. Services will be at 3:00 PM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 2:00 PM. Burial with military rites at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Charles (A.K.) Traw of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Kelly (Tommy White) Traw of Washington DC., Nikki Traw of Portland, Oregon and two great grandchildren, Caden and Owen. He was preceded in death by his wife, and a brother, Bernard.
Merlyn was born on May 29, 1919 in Boone, the son of Austin and Olive Parks Myers. He married
Dorothy I. Cave on July 11, 1953 in Marshalltown. She died in 1996. Merlyn was a foreman at Allis Chalmers and later retired from Harnishfeger after many years of service.
Merlyn was a member of the VFW and proudly served in the Army during WWII. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching sports and was an avid Hawkeye fan. He especially enjoyed the time spent with his family and many friends at his cabin on the Cedar.
Memorial donations may be given to Iowa City Hospice in Merlyn’s name.
