Jack Conrad Novak of Alexandria, Virginia, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, October 23, 2008 of Parkinson’s disease. Memorial services with military honors will be held at 1 PM Saturday, November 15, 2008, in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may register at the chapel from noon to service time. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
He leaves behind, his daughter, Lani Novak Howe and husband William, two grandchildren, Hannah and James, his companion of many years, Vivian Edelfelt, a brother Don G. Novak and wife Jane, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Allayne, and sister Mary Jean Potter and husband Wally.
Jack was a June 1943 graduate of West Point and served in the United States Air Force for nearly 30 years. He was a Flight Commander in the 398th Bomber Group, flying B-17 Heavy Bombers in the European Theater during WW II. After the war, he served in Europe before returning to a post at the Pentagon. He achieved the rank of Colonel, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star, and a Presidential Unit Citation.
Jack was the son of Leo V. Novak who coached at Coe College and was a God son of Newt Rockne.
After his retirement, he became president of the company he founded, Photo Research International, a stock photo library. He was a pioneer in the stock photo industry.

Irene H. Nash Rick, 89, of the Higley Mansion died there on Tuesday March 25, 2008 after a long illness. Services at 11:00 AM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include two sons, William Nash and his wife, Susan of Keokuk and James Nash and his wife Sandy of Corvalis, Oregon, a step daughter, Barb Hute and a step son, Bud Rick both of Arizona, and one sister, Albia Olson of Kenosha, Wisconsin. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Becki Davis, Pam, Derek, Lindsay, Jennifer and Cameron Nash and one great grandson, Max Davis. She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Navratil and one sister, Dorothy Stastny.
Irene was born on Aug. 1, 1918 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Joseph and Albia Dostal Navratil. She was active in the GRA and graduated from McKinley High School in 1936. She married
William Nash on Sept. 4, 1937 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1976. She then married
Hugh Rick on July 14, 1980 in Missouri. He died in 2002.
Irene was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She worked at Spryncil's Restaurant, now the Tic Toc, and later founded Meals on Wheels in Cedar Rapids. Irene went on to cook for the Marion School System at both Marion High and Nixon Elementary and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
A memorial fund has been established in Irene's name.

Kenneth R. Novey, 78, 125 School Street, Marion died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Linn Manor Care Center following a brief illness. Services: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Burial: Mt. Calvary cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Monday from 4PM to 8PM.
Surviving in addition to his wife Bernice are a daughter, Donna Marie Novey of Shoreview, MN; a son, Richard Glenn Novey Sally of Valley Center, CA; and a brother, Raymond Novey of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Kenneth was born August 2, 1929 in Prairie du Chin, WI the son of Henry and Marie Zacharis Novey. He was married
on October 29, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois to Bernice G. Bonney. Kenneth was a lab technician for Rockwell Collins for 19 years and also for Square D for 24 years. For more than 35 years, his hobby was locksmithing. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Iowa Locksmith's Association, Associated Locksmith's of America and the Marion American Legion Post #298. Kenneth also delivered meals for Meals-on-Wheels for 10 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Helen Louise is survived by her husband, Orville; son Steve, his wife Mary, and their children Jocelyn O'Connor and her husband Michael, and Harold Firster; daughter, Kathy Kelly, her husband Roger, and their children Kristin Chmiel and her husband Brian, and Nathan Kelly and his wife Jenica; and son Dr. David Oehler, his wife Erin and their daughters Miranda, Olivia and Marina. Other survivors include her brother Dr. George Zimmerman, sister Elsie Oehler, and their families.
Helen Louise was born February 17, 1925 in Amana, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Helen Zimmerman. She married
Orville Oehler July 28, 1946. The couple farmed in the Cedar Rapids area until retiring to Sioux City, Iowa in 1995. A student of the Christian Science faith, she was elected to membership in The First Church of Christ, Scientist in June 1951. After extensive religious study in 1970 she held the office of Christian Science Practitioner for 15 years. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2006.

Rebecca L. Nash, 73, of 2110 First Ave NE, died Saturday, March 8, 2008, in the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a year long bout with cancer. Services at 11 AM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Wednesday.
Survivors include her husband John, her children Kathy Bob Kaufman of Cedar Rapids, David Cheryl Potter of San Bernardino, California, Kelly Bruce Trumpold of Amana, Iowa, and Brian Potter of Glendora, California, two sisters Joann Richards of Canada, and Judy Russ Cosens of Jefferson, Iowa, a brother Phillip Debbie Kennedy of Grimes, Iowa, two step sons J. Connor Julie Nash of Reno, Texas, Tim Arlene Nash of Charlottesville, Virginia, and a step-daughter Roxanne Nash of Cedar Rapids, nine grandchildren, Rob Kaufman, Chase, Brenton, Westley, Rick, and Luke Potter, Nicole, and Chelsea Trumpold, and Dave Ayers., three great-grandchildren, and three step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Doug and Stanley Clark, and Dennis Kennedy, son Stanley Potter, great-granddaughter Trinity Kaufman, and step granddaughter Holli Nash.
Rebecca was born February 28, 1935, in Cooper, Iowa to John and Anna Kelley Clark. She married
John Nash on May 18, 1973 in Cedar Rapids. She was the owner and operator of the St. Luke's Beauty Shop in the 1970's. She had also worked in sales at Armstrong's and Younkers.
She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile. She enjoyed bowling, playing pool, and working with flowers. She was an avid Cubs and Vikings fan, and enjoyed tea parties with her granddaughters.

Mireta L. Niebuhr, 92, of Windmill Manor, Coralville, passed away peacefully on the evening of January 14, 2008. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jonathan Offt. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Mireta was born September 18, 1915 in Guernsey, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church and graduated from Guernsey High School. Mireta married
William C. Niebuhr on January 16, 1938. They farmed in the Blairstown area and lived in Des Moines before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1956. They were “Day One-ers" with Life Investors Insurance Company/Aegon and enjoyed many international and national trips with the company. Mireta was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Mary Martha Guild. Her interests included oil painting, photography, sewing, gardening and all activities of her family. She appreciated the performing arts, music and Hawkeye basketball and was well known for her witty one-liners.
She was a wonderful mother to her five children, who survive her; Gary Niebuhr of Los Angeles, CA, Jean and Bob Ross of Santa Fe, NM, Jim and Diane Niebuhr of Iowa City, Bill and Peggy Niebuhr of Streator, IL and Joyce Niebuhr of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by grandchildren Jeremy Niebuhr of Miamisburg, OH, Katie Niebuhr and Jamie Niebuhr of Iowa City, Wendy and Michael Buttacy of Springfield, MO, Anna Niebuhr and Billy Niebuhr of Streator, IL; great-grandchild Jordan Niebuhr of Hamilton, OH; sister, Verna Belle Schmidt of Princeton, IL; brother, Marvin Merck of Anamosa, IA; and devoted friend, David Bolt of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Esther Merck; her brother, Lawrence Merck; and husband, Bill.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all of her caregivers at Bickford Cottage, Windmill Manor, and the Palliative Care Unit at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
