George D. Patten, 81, of 4845 Johnson Ave NW, died Monday, March 8, 2004, in St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Services with military rites at 3 PM on Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday and at the chapel after 2:30 PM on Wednesday.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 62 years Viola, two sons Douglas and wife Susan of Cedar Rapids, and David and wife Janet of Lisbon, three daughters Daisy Stark and husband Vern of Norway, and Maxine Stewart and Diane Havlik both of Cedar Rapids, a brother Horace of New York, a sister Katie Haines of California, fifteen grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three children, Marsha, Marvin, and Dale, a brother William and a sister Elizabeth.
George was born March 5, 1923 in Byron, New York to Horace and Florence Patten. He married Viola Petty on May 30, 1942 in Le Roy, New York. He served in the US Army during WW II. He worked for Cryovac as a maintenance repairman from 1965 to 1985. He was a member of Teamsters Local #238.
Military honors by Hanford American Legion Post No 5.

Mae Marguerite Powers
Born in Neosho, MO on November 12, 1918
Departed on April 24, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

cemetery: Linwood cemetery
Mae Marguerite Powers, 85, of Evergreen Estates, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 24, 2004. She died peacefully in her sleep at St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sharon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Gary Dobbins. Burial: Linwood cemetery. Friends may call at Turner West Funeral Home Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Mae is survived by three sons, Harold "Gene" and wife Zelda of Quasqueton, John and wife Janet, and George and wife Cathy, all of Cedar Rapids; son-in-law Marv Findley; grandchildren, Paul Williams, Dawn Husman, Teresa O'Connor, Steve Powers, Carrie Amthauer, Amy Koch, Jenny Gibson, Lisa Powers, Shane Powers, and John Powers; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three sisters; and four brothers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George Powers, and two daughters, Mae Rhene Powers and Frances "Frankie" Findley; two sisters; and one brother.

Mae was born in Neosho, MO to Alma and Henry Church on November 12, 1918. After moving to Cedar Rapids she was employed by Collins Radio, and was an assistant buyer at Killians Company. She belonged to the Eastern Goldfinch Chapter of the ABWA, where she served as President and was honored as Woman of the Year. She was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church.

Mae was devoted to her family and loved the time she spent with them. She has left them all with many wonderful memories and valuable lessons to take with them through life. She will be missed by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sharon United Methodist Church.

LaVerne O. Prior
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on May 8, 1923
Departed on May 7, 2004. Resided in Hiawatha, IA.

LaVerne O. Prior, 81, of the Hiawatha Care Center, died there Friday, May 7, 2004 after a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Turner West Funeral Home by the Rev. Mark Crotinger of Immanuel Baptist Church Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery with military services. Friends may call at Turner West Funeral Home today from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Monday.

Survivors include a son Mike and wife Becky of Eau Claire, WI; two grandsons, B.J. and Scott; a sister Ruby Becker of Cedar Rapids; and a brother, Ronald Prior of Estherville.

Born May 8, 1923 in Cedar Rapids to Oliver and May Palmer Prior, LaVerne married Marjorie Clouse there on May 26, 1949. He worked for Wilson Sinclair for over 28 years, retiring in 1985.

LaVerne was an Army veteran of both WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #5.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

M. Maxine Pope
Born in Thorpe, Iowa on July 22, 1913
Departed on May 21, 2004. Resided in Omaha, NE.

M. Maxine Pope, 90, residing at Brookestone Village in Omaha, Neb., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, May 21, 2004, at Brookestone after a short illness. Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, First Congregational Church. The Rev. David Hohmann will officiate. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Mausoleum. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The casket will be closed at all times.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Nelson and her husband, Harold, of Omaha, Neb., and Nancy Vivanco and her husband, Sergio, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Myrvin in October of 2003, and a sister, Nyline Stanek in 1978.
Maxine was born July 22, 1913, in Thorpe, Ia., the daughter of Ray and Laverna Toms Brown. She graduated from Coe College in 1934. She married Myrvin A. Pope on June 19, 1937, in Cedar Rapids. Maxine was a substitute teacher in the Cedar Rapids Public Schools and also taught English to the Foreign Born. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, and a charter member of Chaper JI, P.E.O.
A memorial fund at Brookestone Village has been established in Maxine's and Myrvin's names.

Beau Samuel Peckosh
Born in Cedar Rapids, IA. on June 25, 2004
Departed on July 5, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Beau Samuel Peckosh, 10-day-old infant son of Brett and Tricia Peckosh, was born June 25, and passed away on July 5, 2004. Memorial services on Thursday, July 8, at 10:30 AM at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Thelma Hembroff of Unity Church of Cedar Rapids will officiate. Visitation for family and friends prior to the service at 9:30 AM at the Chapel. Burial at Buffalo cemetery in Hiawatha. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Beau is survived by his parents, Brett and Tricia Peckosh, and brother Benjamin of Central City. Survivors also include grandparents, Joe and Faith McDonnell of Camanche, and Ken and Shirley Peckosh of Robins; great grandmother Myrtle Peckosh of Cedar Rapids; uncle Joe McDonnell, Jr. of Camanche, aunt Sara and uncle Matt Janssen, and Cousin Libby of Wellsburg; along with other family, friends, and the caregivers at St. Luke's hospital NICU.
God delivered Beau to us early and took him away from us too quickly to his home with the angels. The miracle of his short life will forever touch our hearts.
A memorial fund has been established.

Elizabeth Johnson Perkins
Born in Ames, Iowa on February 3, 1932
Departed on July 16, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Elizabeth Johnson Perkins, 72, of 519 17th Street SE, died at Mercy Medical Center, Friday, July 16, 2004 after a long illness. Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial: Oak Hill cemetery. Arrangements are by Turner West Funeral Home.

Survivors include two sons; Michael Cinda Johnson and Leon Johnson, all of Cedar Rapids; six daughters, Edwina Donald Duke, Evelina Johnson, Susan West, and Hilda Dawson, all of Cedar Rapids, Tracy Dawson of Kansas City, KS and Jane Howard Dennis of Killen, TX; a sister Phyllis Frank Kilpatrick of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Lacey Kelly of Ft. Madison; 22 grandchildren; and 33 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond; a son, Kelly Johnson; and a daughter, Phyllis Ayers.

Elizabeth was born February 3, 1932 in Ames to William and Hilda Kelley.

Elizabeth was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Memorials may be sent to her daughter Edwina @ 1509 8th Avenue SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52403.

Wayne A. Prignitz
Born in Davenport, Iowa on December 24, 1923

Wayne A. Prignitz, 80, of 248 Jacolyn Dr. NW died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004 at St. Lukes Hospital after a short illness. Services at 10:30 AM on Tuesday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Rev. Randy Kasch and Rev. Kathryn Roys will officiate. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery where there will also be military rites. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM on Monday and at the Church after 9:30 AM on Tuesday.
Survivors include two sons, David of Marion and Tim and his wife Mary of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Teresa Wagner, Rebecca and Laurie Prignitz all of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Marjorie Stoffers of Davenport and a brother, Bob Kelly of Virginia. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, Andrew, Crystal and Casey, and a great granddaughter, Rosella Marie.
Wayne was born on Dec. 24, 1923 in Davenport, the son of Albert and Hilda Meinburg Prignitz. He graduated from Iowa State University. Wayne married Rosella J. Knochenmus on Nov. 18, 1950 in Davenport. She died in 2003. He was an industrial engineer at Quaker Oats for 34 years, retiring in 1986. He was a charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the Eagles Club and proudly served in the Navy during WWII. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears and loved chocolate, yard work and especially time spent with his family. Memorial donations may be given to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or Camp Courageous in Wayne's name. Military rites by VFW Post 788.
