Alabama School Yearbooks by State and County

Wanda A. Dewey
Services: Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 22, 2001 at 1:30 pm at the Overton Funeral Home in Garwin. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday. Burial will be at the Garwin Cemetery.
Minister: Rev. Cindy Morrison
Memorial Fund: May be directed to the family.
Wanda Arline Dewey was born on October 17, 1915, near Conrad, Iowa, the daughter of Claude & Bertha (Specht) Essen. She attended school in Conrad, Oskaloosa and Cresco, and received her high school diploma from Cresco with the class of 1934. Wanda was united in marriage to Edward Dewey in Lancaster, MO on November 1, 1938, and they made their home on a farm near Conrad. They farmed near Conrad until 1962 when they moved to a farm near the community of Garwin. Aside from the work on the farm, Wanda enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens. In was 1979 that her husband, Edward, preceded her in death, she remained in Garwin until August of 2000. It was then that her health made it necessary for her to move to the Southridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Marshalltown. It was there that her death came on Friday, October 19, 2001 at the age of 86 years. Along with her husband and her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth, and a sister Ione in infancy. She is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law; Juanita Clark, Patty & Gary Lukehart both of Marshalltown, and Linda & Vernon Zmolek of Garwin, 1 son; Robert Dewey of Grundy Centery, 1 brother and his wife; Darrell & Arlene Essen of Grundy Center, and 1 sister; Leona Stockdale of Waterloo. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Bernice Diedrichsen
Services: 1:30 PM on Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at Overton Funeral Home, Garwin, Iowa by Pastor Cindy Morrison. Burial Crystal Cemetery, rural Toledo, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home in Garwin.
Memorial Fund: A memorial fund has been established.
Bernice Marian Diedrichsen was born April 21, 1920 in rural Tama County near Traer, Iowa, the daughter of Fritz and Minnie (Hass) Boldt. Bernice attended country school in Crystal Township and later Gladbrook High School. At the age of 9 Bernice made her home with her uncle and aunt William and Lillie Diedrichsen in Crystal Township. She later moved to Garwin where she was employed for 36 years for Stones Restaurant in Marshalltown and also worked for area families. Bernice was well known in the area for her baking skills and was well known for her “Mile High Pies”. After her retirement in 1994 she continued to live in Garwin until 1995 when she moved to Grandview Heights Care Center in Marshalltown. Bernice has been hospitalized this past week at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center where her death came early Sunday morning, January 14, 2001 at the age of 80 years. She was a member of the Garwin Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, William, Lester and Glen, one sister Helen and her aunt and uncle Lillie and William Diedrichsen. She is survived by three half brothers, Gary (Suzanne) Boldt of Gladbrook, Fred (Clara) Boldt of Toledo and Delmar of Marshalltown, two half sisters, Lorraine Greenhow of Marshalltown and Linda (Ron) Beenken of Ames, Iowa.

Otis W. Felts
Services: Will be Wednesday, November 22, 2000 at 10:00 am at the Calvary Baptist Church in Dysart, Iowa. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the Overton Funeral Home in Dysart. Burial at the Geneseo Cemetery rural Buckingham.
Minister: Pastor Garry Moore
Memorial Fund: Directed to the family.
Otis W. Felts was born October 15, 1916 at Wheeling, Arkansas, the son of Pink Green and Laura M. (Campbell) Felts. Otis received his education at Salem, Arkansas where he graduated from high school in 1934. He then worked as a salesman before becoming a fireman at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. Otis then moved to Iowa where he worked for area farmers in the Geneseo area. On May 18, 1941 he was united in marriage to Laudine F. Dillinger at Byron, Arkansas. They then made their home farming the Geneseo area until 1958 when they moved to a farm east of Dysart. In 1979 they retired to town where Otis continued to make his home after Laudine’s death on May 17, 1999. In August Otis became a resident of the Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer, Iowa. More recently he has been a patient at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo where his death came on Sunday, November 19, 2000 at the age of 84 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Laudine, one son Otis Jr., three brothers and one sister. Otis is survived by one son and his wife Ed and Kimberly Felts of Grundy Center, Iowa and one daughter and her husband, Cassie and Mike Klein of Dysart, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Loren Feuerbach
Services: Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2001 at 10:00 am at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dysart. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the Overton Funeral Home in Dysart where a Scripture Service will begin at 7:00 pm.
Minister: Father Joseph McGuire.
Memorial Fund: May be directed to the family.
Loren Dean Feuerbach was born on January
Loren Dean Feuerbach was born on January 26, 1931, in Elberon, Iowa, the son of Leonard & Rose Kalina Feuerbach. Loren was raised in the Geneseo Township area of Tama County and graduated from Geneseo High School with the Class of 1949. On June 9, 1951, Loren was united in marriage to Ivonne Elliott at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dysart, Iowa. They lived on the family farm their entire married life.
Loren’s life revolved around farming and raising cattle. He was a 4-H leader and traveled to many livestock shows with his family. He was a lover of all animals, especially dogs. He played basketball in high school and was an avid Hawkeye fan. He also enjoyed traveling, reading and watching movies. Loren had a wonderful sense of humor. His favorite pastime of all, though, was spending time with his grandchildren.
Loren ended his battle with cancer on Monday, April 2, 2001, at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister; Jeanette Hook. He is survived by his wife, Ivonne of Dysart, 2 sons, Mark and his wife Carolyn of Dysart, David of La Porte City; four daughters, Elaine Moore and husband Robert of Hudson, Catherine “Cay” Olson and husband Robert of Clarion, Diane Horrigan and husband Timothy of Waterloo, Julie Arndt and husband Steven from Geneseo, Illinois, and sixteen grandchildren,
Sara, Matt, Elliot, Erica, Ali, Audrey, Joseph, Katie, Annie, Maggie, Jacob, Jason, Jenny, Jessie, Sam & Abby.
May our Lord Jesus Christ bless his memory in the midst of his family, friends, congregation and community.

Beverly J. Gustafson
Services: At this time no visitation will be held. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 19, 2001 at 3:00 pm at the Church of Promise in Buckingham, IA. A burial will preceed the service at Geneseo Cemetery, Buckingham, IA
Memorial Fund: May be directed to the family.
Beverly J. Gustafson was born January 20, 1922 at Magnolia Corners, Rock County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Walter C. and Ada M. (McCoy) Hofer. Beverly was raised in the Evansville and Madison area where she attended school and graduated from Evansville High School in 1941. On June 16, 1941 she was united in marriage to Folke M. Gustafson at Madison where they lived until moving to Toledo, Ohio in 1945. In 1957 she moved to Maumee, OH and was employed at AP Parts. In 1967 they returned to Madison where she worked at the Wisconsin State Crime Lab for many years. In 1978 they moved to Gainesville, Florida where she took employment as a secretary for Flad and Associates Architects until her retirement. In 1998 Beverly and Folke moved to La Porte City where Folke's death came on November 7, 1999. More recently she has been a patient at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo where her death came Monday, October 15, 2001 at the age of 79 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Folke, and one brother Walter. She is survived by two daughters, Jan Walker of La Porte City and Jo Carol Gustafson of Gainesville, Florida, two grandchildren Chad Walker and his wife Carrie of Cedar Rapids and Wendy Jo Walker of Cedar Falls.

Alta Katherine Hark
Services: Will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at the Dysart United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held on Monday at Overton Funeral Home in Dysart from 4:00-6:00 PM. Entombment will be at Cedar Memorial Cemetery in
Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Minister: Rev. Donald Bogue
Memorial Fund: May be directed to the Dysart United Methodist Church or donor's favorite charity.
Alta Katherine Hark was born near Dysart, Iowa on June 7,1901, the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Messer) Mehlhaus. Alta received her education in country school and helped her family at home. On December 31, 1924, she married Harry Hark at the home of her parents at Dysart. Alta and Harry made their home farming near Dysart until moving to town in 1963. In addition to raising her daughter, Alta enjoyed playing cards with friends and crocheting. She attended the United Methodist Church in Dysart and had taught Sunday school. Following Harry’s death on May 29, 1977, Alta continued to make her home in Dysart until her health had began to fail. Recently Alta had become a resident of Sunrise Hill Care Center at Traer where she recently had celebrated her 100th birthday. In the past few weeks Alta’s health had continued fail and her death came at the care center on Saturday, June 30, 2001. Alta was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and two sisters. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Verjean and Truman Chaffin on California.

Helen M. Helleso
Services: Visitation is on Tuesday, August 14, 2001 from 6-8pm, at Overton Funeral Home in Garwin. The funeral is also at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 15, 2001 at 10:30 am. Burial is at the Garwin Cemetery followed by a lunch at the Garwin American Legion Hall
Memorial Fund: May be directed to the family.
Helen Mae Helleso was born December 2, 1906 in rural Garwin, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Lillie (Egger) Jensen. Helen attended Rock Valley Country School near Garwin. On February 11, 1925 she was united in marriage to Everett Helleso at Toledo, IA. They made their home all their married life on a farm south of Garwin. During this time Helen and Everett were honored for their 65 years of marriage. Following Everett’s death on June 5, 1991, Helen continued to make her home on the farm. She later moved to Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad where her death came on Monday, August 13, 2001 at the age of 94 years. In free moments Helen enjoyed quilting, crocheting and gardening. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Everett, a brother Clifford, a sister Genevieve Meeker, and a son-in-law Bob Clemens. She is survived by a son, Donald (Janet) Helleso of Garwin, IA, a daughter, Arlene Clemens of Marshalltown, IA, a brother, Sherman Jensen of Garwin, IA, two sisters, Myrtle Groth and Gretchen Dahms both of Garwin, IA, four grandchildren and their spouses: Charlene (Clint) Coon of Altoona, IA, Debra (Steve) Locker of Nevada, IA, Bill (Becky) Clemens of Marshalltown, IA, Lori (Scott) McLain of Marshalltown, IA, 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Jean H. Hennings
Services: Visitation is to be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 from 3:00pm-8:00pm at the Overton Funeral Home in Dysart, IA. The funeral service is on Thursday, April 19, 2001 at 10:00am at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart. Burial is at the Keystone Cemetery in Keystone, IA.
Memorial Fund: May be directed to the family.
Jean Helen Hennings was born January 12, 1934 in Clutier, Iowa, the only child of Roy and Katherine (Moeller) Lorenzen. She graduated from Dysart High School in the Class of 1951 and then worked for a time as a secretary to superintendent L. A. Maley. On September 26, 1953 Jean was married to Darold Keith William Hennings at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart. They farmed in the Clutier and Van Horne areas, returning to Clutier in 1967, farming there until moving to Dysart in 1976. In the early 80’s they also created and operated Hennings Cook & Kettle catering business. They managed the Dysart Country Club until Darold’s death on July 31, 1986 and Jean continued to manage the club until her retirement in 1997. Jean passed away at her home on Monday, April 16, 2001, with all of her five children present, at the age of 67 years. She was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church, holding offices in the women of the church, currently serving as co-president, and was actively involved in other church groups and activities. Jean was also a founding member of the Take Time Club and a member of the Dysart Women’s Club. She had also been involved with the American Cancer Society, Heritage Society, Dysart Development Corporation, Dysart Shoot for the Stars and the Iowa Cattlemens Association. In free moments Jean enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and attending the many activities of her grandchildren. She was also an avid sports fan, watching events on television as well as attending her grandchildren’s events. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws, Helen & Willis Hennings, and her husband Darold in 1986. She is survived by two daughters: Lorie of Davenport, IA and LuAnn of LaPorte City, IA, three sons: Lonny (Julie) of Clutier, IA, Lance (Mary Kay) of Keystone, IA and Lynn (Jane) of Cedar Rapids, IA, 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
