Ivy Rose Pameticky
Born in London, England on September 24, 1918
Departed on June 10, 2007. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Service: Friday, June 15, 2007
Ivy Rosemary Pameticky, 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died June 10 after a brief decline in health. Memorial Services will be held Friday, June 15, 2007 at 3:00 PM at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
The daughter of Royal Field Artillery Gunner William "Jack" James Scott and Rose May Scott nee Anderson, Ivy was born in London, England, September 24, 1918.
Growing up in London, it was sometime after the Blitz that she and her family moved south to the safety of county Sussex. Ivy's many wartime memories were vividly shared. Her contributions to the communal family memory are beyond measure. We will always remember: the night run to the bomb shelter and the diversion that saved her life and the buzz bomb that struck next door, thrusting her into the back yard. The plane flew low that day. She had seen his face, she said. He was young and handsome. We'll always remember the Prince of Wales pub and the evening she invited Staff Sgt Neil Pameticky to a game of darts. Two dates later they became engaged. War created an urgency, she said years later.
The move to Sussex brought with it Ivy's induction into the WAAF Women's Auxiliary Air Force. Stationed for the war's duration at British Fighter Command Tangmere, Telephonist Corporal Scott recalled the night she spoke to Lieutenant Rex Harrison. One year after the war ended, Ivy boarded the Queen Elizabeth a troop ship retrofitted to an European war bride transport vessel and steamed to her future. Ivy was joined in marriage to Neil November 22, 1946. Neil died December 30, 1974.
Once state side, Ivy joined the Women of Foreign Nations Club. Here she forged friendships: many that lasted a lifetime. In fact, her British roots provided a rich harvest of wonderful friends including: Gwen Ford deceased, Paddy Thorpe, Peggy Scuffum and Joyce Guze.
Ivy is survived by children, Diana Tharp Trevor and Scott Pameticky Julie; grandchildren; Todd Miller Jocelyn, Tara Cronbaugh Steve Harris, Whitney Bliss Anthony Saucier, Shay Sanders, Taylor Pameticky; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving is beloved brother George Liz Scott of West Sussex, England. Proceeding Ivy in death were her parents and brother Stanley Scott.
We'll miss you, Mom.
