Theoria J. Price, 76, of 1811 3rd Street SW, died Saturday, August 11, 2007, after an extended illness. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Lonnie Jordan. Burial: Linwood cemetery. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Brenda Alvin Brooks and Joyce Coffee, both of Cedar Rapids, 4 grandchildren; Tamera Olen Gibson, Kara Davis, Davena Johnson, and Raynaro Pirtle; a sister, Marie Reed of Arvin, CA; 8 great grandchildren, Trevon, Zevon, and Jovon Johnson, Myles Smith, Jayden and Breya Pirtle, and Brianna and Ty Gibson; and many nieces and nephews.
Theoria was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; 2 brothers, James and Calvin Cunningham and a sister, Almeta Caldwell.
Theoria was born on July 19, 1931 in Pawhuska, OK to Theodore and Willie Cunningham. She married
Harry Johnson Price on August 27, 1976 in Iowa City. He died in 1995. She was employed at Rockwell International for over 28 years retiring in 1988. She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she was the church clerk for over 20 years. Theoria was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed her position as the family matriarch. She was an articulate and precise woman who was active in many civic organizations.

Marjorie E. Pigott, 83, of 5849 Ridge View Drive SW, died on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, after a short illness. Memorial Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. William Harnish. Friends may visit with the family after 9 a.m. Friday at the chapel.
Suriviors include a son, Patrick Carol of Dallastown, PA; 3 grandchildren, Sean Pigott, Kelly Don Roethlisberger, and Michael Pigott JR; 2 great grandchildren, Dylan and Allyanna; many friends including Rosemary White; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Cerveny.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband John, and her son, Michael.
Marjorie was born on December 26, 1923 in Cedar Rapids to Frank and Agnes Novotny Cerveny. She married
John F. Pigott in Davenport on June 18, 1948. He died in 2001. Marjorie enjoyed gardening and her card club in Atkins. She also liked to play Bingo at St. Ludmilia's Catholic Church.

Alleen M. Pennington, 76, of 214-21st. Ave. SW died Friday Aug. 17, 2007 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a brief illness. Private family graveside services on Monday at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday. Per Alleen's request the casket will be closed at all times.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Strottman of Mason City, and Cheryl Brown of Cedar Rapids, two sons, Robert Theresa of Martelle and David Marcy of Cedar Rapids and a sister, Helen Ogden of Canada. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Megan, Brittany, Jordan, Emily, Brandon, Erica, Ryan, Paul, Cassandra, Sarah, Tyrone, Jim and Seth, 6 great grandchildren and her faithful companion, her dog, Sofia. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Deborah Huber and two brothers.
Alleen was born on March 27, 1931 in Tipton, the daughter of John and Wretha Carr Umbdenstock. She married
Robert A. Pennington on Aug. 16, 1952 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He died in 1993. Alleen was a homemaker and a day care provider. She enjoyed travel, the Hawkeyes, Cubs, the outdoors, camping, gardening and especially spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Memorial donations may be given to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Alleen's name.

Gertrude E. Phelps, 100, of Cedar Rapids, died March 3, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a short illness. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, March 6, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Bob Voels of Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place 3:00 PM, Friday, at Cass Township cemetery, Strawberry Point, Iowa.
Survivors include her son Cal Phelps and wife Ruby; daughter Jayne Woodson; grandchildren Blake (Elaine) Phelps, Sherry (John) Gotterup, Lisa (Joe) Nelson, Scott (Zayda) Stevens; great grandchildren Steven (Devon) Phelps, Eric Phelps, Mashell and Jeremy Gotterup, Sara and Amanda Nelson, and Natalia and Esteban Sierra.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Shirley, and a brother Francis Wilson and his wife Fay.
Gertrude Evelyn Phelps was born October 25, 1908 in Chatham, North Carolina the beloved daughter of Delbert and Edna (Eckart) Wilson. She rode on horseback daily to attend school. She attended Iowa State Teachers College, and taught in a one room school. She was united in marriage to Shirley Phelps on September 18, 1928 in Edgewood, Iowa. She was a 50 plus year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also was a 60 year member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed oil painting and growing flowers for all to enjoy. Above all her greatest enjoyment was the time she was able to spend with her family whom she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed, but remembered for her kindness and love.

Meryle F. Porter, 88, of Central City, formerly of Palo, died February 22, 2009 at Winslow House Care Center, Marion, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, February 27, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. John Howerton of Palo United Methodist Church will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
Survivors are his wife Mary E. Porter; three daughters Mary Reed of Cedar Rapids, Bonny Gordon of Waubeek, and Becky (Mrs. Marvin Andrews) of rural Vinton; one son Meryle F. Porter, Jr. and wife Gloria of Carrolton, TX; 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; and one sister Maysel McCloud of Manchester. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, one brother Roscoe, and grandson Roy V. Gordon III.
Meryle was born December 23, 1920 in Rural Hopkinton to Frank and Mary Ann Porter. He attended schools in Buck Creek and Golden areas, and farmed with his folks in Delaware and Linn counties. Meryle married
Mary Elizabeth White on October 4, 1941 in Kirksville, MO. They were married
67 years. They farmed in Delaware and Linn County before moving to Hiawatha in 1964. He worked at Iowa Glass and Kelly’s Security before retiring in 1983. He attended Palo United Methodist Church, and Senior Dining in Palo. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and mushroom hunting. Above all, Meryle enjoyed his family and all the grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren.

Evelyn Cole Parker, 96, a resident of Westridge Care Center, died Wednesday November 26, 2008 in St. Luke’s Hospital following a long illness. Memorial services: Monday December 15, 2008 at the Munterville Lutheran Church. Burial: Munterville cemetery, Blakesberg, Iowa. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Evelyn is survived by her sister in-law, Jeanette Olson of Ottumwa, as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Irene, Maria, Mildred, her brothers, Carl, Ralph and Johnie, her first husband, Miley Cole and her second husband, captain William Parker.
Born in Buxton, Iowa, to John and Anna Olson on May 19, 1912. She graduated from Cosmetologist College in Des Moines. She later owned and operated a beauty shop in Ottumwa for many years. After World War II she and her first husband, Miley Cole moved to San Diego, California where she became a food demonstrator for Hormel Meat Company, retiring after 25 years. She and her second husband, Captain William Parker were volunteers for Meals-on-Wheels in the San Diego area for 10 years. Evelyn was a supporter and life member of the Munterville Lutheran Church.

Catherine M. “Katie" Parker 89, of 2975 Ave NW, died Friday October 31, 2008 in St. Luke’s Hospital following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Matthews Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Osterhaus. Visitation will be on Sunday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories from 4-7 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Jeanne Rammelsberg ( Brian) of Atkins, Jane Huber ( Bill) of Cedar Rapids, Patricia Feddersen of Cedar Rapids and a son, John Parker (Bethany) of Cedar Rapids, a sister, Josephine Meyer of Dubuque, 7 grandchildren, Daniel (Melissa) Rammelsberg, Michael Rammelsberg, Matthew Rammelsberg, Sara Huber, Kurtis Feddersen, Amanda Feddersen, Joey Parker and a great granddaughter, Madison Rammelsberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard, an infant granddaughter, Catherine, four brothers and 3 sisters.
Katie was born February 13, 1919 in Dubuque, the daughter of Joseph and Nora Rave Kiefer. She married
Howard John Parker on July 8, 1950 in Dubuque. Katie was employed by the Dubuque County Recorder for 12 years and later worked for the Cedar Rapids School System after relocating to Cedar Rapids. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church where she was active in the St. Bernadette Circle. Katie enjoyed cooking, and was an avid sports fan. Her family was very important to her. We would like to thank the staff at Ridgeview Assisted Living and West Ridge Care Center for all their loving care and concern for our mother.
A memorial fund has been established for St. Matthew Catholic Church Building Fund in lieu of flowers.
