Everett H. Peters, 85, a resident of the Methwick Woodlands, died there Saturday September 20, 2008 following a brief illness. Funeral Mass: Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. David O’Connor. Burial: St. John’s cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 3-8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, where a vigil will begin at 3:30 p.m.
Surviving are his children, Francis Peters of Fairbanks Alaska, Mark Peters of Cedar Rapids, Florian Peters of Iowa City, Gilbert Peters (Debbie) of Dear Born, Michigan, Mary Sokol (John) of Chicago and Teresa Wery (Mark) of Cedar Rapids, and a sister, Barbara Kelsey of Hollywood, California.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Sandra (Sokol) Goodin, John Sokol, Cheryl Sokol, Mike Sokol, Todd Peters, Sara Peters, Ben Wery, Bryan Wery, Nick Wery, and Weston Wery.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Peters, and three brothers, Kenneth, Lawrence and Glenn Peters.
Everett was born September 6, 1923 in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Charles and Gertie Smidt Peters. He married
Lillian C. Drahos on June 28, 1949 in Cedar Rapids at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He was a carpenter and Millwright. Everett was a member of All Saints Catholic Church where he was an usher for many years and member of the Retired Carpenters Union. He served in the Army during World War II in the south pacific.

JD Proffitt, 87, a resident of Crestview Acers, died there Wednesday September 17, 2008 following a long illness. Graveside services are set for 3:30 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be today at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Leona M. King Parish, 67, of 865 14th Street NE, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, in the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a short illness. Services at 1 PM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories from 4 to 7 PM on Friday and after 12:30 PM on Saturday.
Survivors include her six children, Regina Burnett of Greensboro, North Carolina, Selina Leonard Logan, Terina Butch Brade Hemminger, Verina Stovall, James Parish Jr., and Delbert Parish all of Cedar Rapids, a sister Darlys Rick Rogers of Orchard, Iowa, four brothers Frederick Sharon King, of Charles City, Iowa, Duane Cleone King of Floyd, Iowa, Wayne Deborah King of Pensacola, Florida, and Cecil Kathleen King of Robins, sixteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law and husband, many nieces, nephews, cousins, her best friend of many years Rose Jibben and Family, and her dog Mystic. She was preceded in death by the love of her life her husband James Robert Parish Sr., her mother Bernice Seidel King, and both grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George King, and Mr. And Mrs. Fred Seidel
Leona was born on June 12, 1941 in Riceville, Iowa to Marreld and Bernice Seidel King. She graduated from Charles City, High School in 1959. She worked at a small restaurant where she met James Robert Bob Parish, and went to Las Vegas, Nevada to marry him.
Leona worked at Rockwell-Collins for 29 and a half years before retiring. For the last 10 years she worked at Target East. She was known as the "Quiet Red Card Lady." With both jobs she met and became a good friend to many people.
For the last two years she fought a courageous battle of breast, lung, brain, and bone cancer.
The family wishes to thank the Doctors, and nurses at Mercy Medical Center, and the hospice house for her tender care.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her name.
Charles R. Pottebaum

Charles R. "Chuck" Pottebaum, 56, of 5055 Johnson Ave. SW. formerly of Dubuque, died Thursday July 17, 2008 at St. Lukes Hospital after a short illness. Services at 1:00 PM on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home where there will also be military rites. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 9:00 AM until service time on Saturday.
Survivors include four brothers, Gary of Marion, Brian of Dubuque, Russ Sandy of St. Charles, MO., and Jeff Kelly of Walford, three sisters, Carla Pottebaum of East Dubuque, Illinois, Barb Jim Schoellen of Waterloo and Sharon Gene Harmon of Dubuque. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Chuck was born on June 2, 1952 in Dubuque, the son of Urban and Madonna Digmann Pottebaum. He was an A.S.A. Umpire for many many years. Chuck enjoyed all sports, watching the Chicago Cubs, the Green Bay Packers, hunting, fishing as well as proudly serving in the U. S. Navy.

Sandra Jean Pierce, 55, of Cedar Rapids, died July 14, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Pastor Brent Watkins of River of Life Ministries will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Maple Hill cemetery in Montour, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband Dennie; children Sonia Godbey and husband Joe of West Virginia, Matt Mitchell and wife Paula of Hiawatha, Mary Webster, and Simon Mitchell both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Autumn, Jade, Morgan, and Alex; step children Adam Pierce and his son Montana, Sara Velasquez and husband William all of Clinton; brothers and sisters Cheryl, Tom, Candi, Dawn, Bruce, Kevin, and Debbie; and their dog Derby.
She was preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Marlis Lennie, and her first husband Harold Mitchell.
Sandra Jean Pierce was born June 14, 1953 in Iowa City, the beloved daughter of Eugene and Marlis Smith Lennie. She was a graduate of South Tama High School. She married
Harold Mitchell, who preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to Dennie Pierce on September 4, 2004 in Davenport, Iowa. She attended River of Life Ministries. She enjoyed music, particularly country and rock and roll, and watching professional wrestling with her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the memorial fund established in Sandra's honor.

Ann Procok, 95, died on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, following a lengthy illness. Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Ken Glandorf will officiate. Friends may call Saturday, at the chapel, after 10:00 AM. Private Inurnment at Czech National cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter Dorothy Dukes, of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Mark Dukes of Cedar Rapids, Craig Dukes Kay of Mt. Home, NC, and Lori McClenathan Lynn of Victor. Great-grandchildren Matthew Dukes Jenna of Cedar Rapids, Sarah Dukes of Waterloo, Stacy Axmear Steven of North English. Stephanie Dukes of Des Moines, and Monica McClenathan of Grinnell, and step- great-grandson Bryan Duncan Mandy of Henderson, NC. Great-great-grandchildren Kaylei, Noah and Lincoln Dukes, Kennedy Axmear; and step-great-great granddaughter Kassidy Duncan. Survivors also include Kathy Dukes, and good friend Scott Beltran.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Adolph "Al" in 2003, sister Christie Petsel, and brothers Joseph, Edward, Milver, Jerry and Ben, and son-in-law M. Lee Dukes.
Ann was born on April 8, 1913, to Joseph and Anna Novak Kulhavy, in Cedar Rapids. On September 3, 1931 she married
Al. She was a homemaker for many years, cooked and baked for Dytrt's, later known as Konecny's, in Czech Village. She baked kolaches for Hoby Days in earlier years. Ann was devoted to Al for 72 years and as a mother and grandparent, babysitting family with tender loving care, and to helping anyone in need, and bringing happiness to many. She enjoyed a simple life with bowling, playing cards, and bingo. She enjoyed gospel music, watching game shows and the Lawrence Welk Show on television.
She was a long time member of Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she and Al were door greeters.
A memorial honoring Ann has been established.
