Beulah I. Potter, 90, of 1717 Ellis Blvd. NW, died At St. Luke's Hospital Thursday, June 19, 2008, after a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Beth Mary Straw of St. James United Methodist Church. Burial: 2 p.m. Woodland cemetery, Lynnville, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Monday at the chapel. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter, Rev. Marlene Brown of Macedonia; her son, Charles Potter of Muscatine; four grandchildren, Kenneth Brown, and Matthew, Jamie, and Rachel Potter; six great grandchildren; and her niece and nephew, Doris Hager and Ivan Zabilka.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; a brother and his wife, J. Harvey and Marion Zabilka; a grandson, Mark Brown; and a great nephew, Steven Hager.

Beulah was born on August 15, 1917 in rural Indianapolis, Iowa to John and Tillie Zabilka. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School. Beulah married Marvin Potter on July 2, 1939 in Oskaloosa. Beulah and Marvin spent most of their marriage in Cedar Rapids where they both worked in their family music business. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was involved in United Methodist Women and various church activities. She enjoyed numerous crafts such as sewing, quilting, painting, knitting, and cooking.

Memorials may be directed to St. James United Methodist Church.

Mary Jeanne Palmer
Born in Cedar Rapids on May 11, 1924
Departed on June 16, 2008. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Mary Jeanne Palmer, 84, a resident of the Methwick Community died at The Woodlands, Monday, June 16, 2008, following a brief illness. Services at 10:30 AM on Friday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Burial at 1:30 PM on Friday at the Springville cemetery in Springville. Per Mary Jeanne's request there will be no visitation, her casket will be closed at all times. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include four nieces, Marjory Palmer Morrissey, Centennial, CO, Patricia Palmer Pedersen, Cincinnati, OH, Linda Palmer King, Humble, TX, Judith Palmer Estes, Cibolo, TX and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her only brother, John Frank Palmer Jack Jr.

Mary Jeanne was born May 11, 1924, the daughter of John Frank and Charlotte Wagner Palmer in Cedar Rapids. Mary Jeanne graduated from Franklin High School in 1941. She graduated from Coe College in 1945 where her life-long teaching career began in the Alburnett High School, and then Solon High School. She then worked for Walter Shupp, Superintendent of Linn County Schools for two years. Mary Jeanne was married August 9, 1951 when she moved to Clinton, IA where she also taught for a short time. She returned to Cedar Rapids after her divorce to teach in various elementary schools. She received her master's degree from the University of Iowa and served as a principal at the Eisenhower school for three years, retiring in 1990. For ten years she then worked for Iowa State University supervising student teachers. Mary Jeanne's love of teaching spanned many years

Mary Jeanne's love of traveling took her to more than 21 countries all over the world where she loved to study the many different cultures as well as collect artifacts from various places. She also did mission work in Honduras and Haiti. Mary Jeanne was a life long member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church as well as a member of P.E.O. Chapter LI in Cedar Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary Jeanne's memory may be directed to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

John J. Pink
Born in Grosse Point, Michigan on August 15, 1937
Departed on March 2, 2008. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

John J. "Jack" Pink, 70, of 614 27th St. NE, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, in Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Saturday in St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Osterhaus will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Friday and at the church after 10 AM on Saturday.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years Arveda, their children, Shawn Pink of Watkins, Iowa, Greg Karen Pink of Cedar Rapids, Alison Mark Winn of Manchester, Iowa, Laura Terry Rintala of Arvada, Colorado, Jonathan Pink of Seattle, Washington, and Leslie Matthew Dake of Cedar Rapids, a brother Gerald Linda Pink of Redford, Michigan, ten grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Jill Pink.

Jack was born August 15, 1937 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, to James R. and Geraldine B. Corin Pink. He graduated from Cleveland Institute of Art. He married Arveda M. Lewis on August 11, 1962 in Medina, Ohio. In August of 1966 he was hired at Amana Refrigeration as a senior visual-designer. He retired in October of 2001 as Manager of Industrial Design. He loved to fish and do wood and metal working. He enjoyed going to "Jazz under the Stars". He especially enjoyed sitting on the patio sipping a cool beverage while chatting.

Jack was a GENTLE GIANT with the hands of Goliath, and the patience of Job. He was a master craftsman who could accomplish anything he set his mind to.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

David L. Packingham I

David L. Packingham I, 61, of Cedar Rapids died Monday, January 7, 2008 following a brief illness. Services: 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday from 4 PM to 9 PM. The Rev. William Harnish will officiate.
Surviving are two daughters, Tamara S. Lardie Dennis of Boise, Idaho and Shirley J. Packingham of Marion; a son, David L. Packingham II Coree of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren, Trey, Caleb, Kaytlyn, Tanner, Brittany, Brandy, Ashley, David III, Lilly, and Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a twin brother.
David was born January 18, 1946 in Cedar Rapids the son of Earl and Ruth Johnson Packingham. David was a Solid Waste Employee for the City of Cedar Rapids for 36 years. David enjoyed bowling, was an avid sports fan, enjoyed softball and loved his Double Maduro’s.

Craig A. Parsons

Craig A. Parsons, 59, 1609 Homewood Lane NE died Sunday, December 16, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital following a sudden illness. Services: 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2PM to 6PM. The Rev. William Harnish will officiate.
Surviving in addition to his wife Edy are his parents, Alvin and Mabel Parsons of Waterloo; a sister, Sandra Kirchmann of Waterloo; a brother, Terrance Parsons Linda of Charles City; and his nieces and nephews, Rachel Galvin Steven, Aaron Kirchmann Mindy, Matthew Parsons Sarah, Mark Parsons Angie and Yangtze Phillips.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Diane Louise Parsons.
Craig was born December 5, 1948 in Waterloo the son of Alvin and Mabel Stubbs Parsons. He married Edy Leung on May 30, 1998 in Ames. Craig was the news photographer for channel 8 in Des Moines for 25 years and recently he owned and operated Jade Crystal Imports. Craig was an Eagle Scout, and held 3 degrees from Iowa State University. He was also a disaster inspector for FEMA Craig was a little bit of a renaissance fellow, and a published poet.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Mercy College to establish a Liberal Arts Scholarship in Craig's name.

Matthew Colin Petersen
Born on March 13, 1975
Departed on December 15, 2007. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Matthew Colin Petersen was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 13, 1975 to Duane Pete and Delaine Petersen. Until his death on Saturday, December 15, 2007, most of Matt's days started and ended with a smile for someone. He was a blessing to his family, friends, teachers and caregivers who learned from Matt how to be patient, yet have fun in the simplest ways. Despite his significant disabilities Matt enjoyed everyone who spent time with him. So many wonderful people helped Matt to live in his family home and to be part of the community. His family will never forget your love, wisdom and dedication.
Matt attended special education classes in the Cedar Rapids School District, was a member and consumer at The Arc of East Central Iowa and participated in programs at Options of Linn County.
Besides his parents, Pete and Delaine Petersen, Matt is survived by his sister Leslie; paternal grandparents Ray and Mabel Petersen of Wayne, NE; maternal grandparents Othmar and Betty Bachman of Auburn, IA; 12 aunts and uncles; many cousins and countless friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 19 from 4 7 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Matthew's Funeral Mass will be Thursday, December 20 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church at 11:00 A.M. with a luncheon immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to The Arc of East Central Iowa, 680 2nd St. SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa or to Options of Linn County, 1019 7th St. SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Even death is not to be feared by one who has lived wisely.

Wilma Probert
Born in Meservey, Iowa on August 10, 1911
Departed on October 20, 2007. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Wilma Probert, 96, died peacefully October 20, 2007, at Cottage Grove Place, after a brief illness. Wilma will be laid to rest at Hillcrest cemetery in Volga, Iowa, on Saturday, October 27, 2007, at 1:30 PM. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include her two daughters and their husbands: Sue and Meryl Stamp of Surprise, Arizona, and Sara and Robert Berendt of Sanibel, Florida. Also survived by six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Wilma was born in Meservey, Iowa, on August 10, 1911 the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Herman K. Pals. She was the last remaining survivor of six children.

Wilma graduated from high school in Sioux Center, Iowa, and continued her education at Central College in Pella, Iowa. After receiving her degree in speech and education, she went on to teach in schools in Fulton, Illinois, and Sioux Center.

In 1937 Wilma married the love of her life, Mr. William John Probert. In the early years of their marriage "Bill" and Wilma established the foundation of a strong marriage that enabled them to endure the person tragedy of the loss of their infant daughter, Julianne. The loving marriage was inspiration to their friends and family. They were married for 67 years when Bill passed away in November of 2005.

Wilma had an artistic gift that was evident in her craftwork and floral arrangements. She excelled at oil painting and sketching and documented many poignant scenes and places in Iowa where her family lived. Wilma continued her art education at Coe College and studied with famed artist, Edwin J. Bruins.

An active member of the community, Wilma had a strong presence in the Presbyterian Church where she was an ordained Elder, Deacon, and Sunday school and bible instructor. She was a member of the chancel choir and president of the Women's Association. As a member of Chapter II PEO, Wilma served as president of her chapter and the Cedar Rapids Reciprocity. She was a lifetime member of the Cedar Rapids Symphony, The College Club, and the Corner Stone Society of Central College in Pella.

Wilma's passing represents the disappearance of a way of life. She embodied integrity, honesty, strength, and gentle guidance to those who knew her. Her sense of humor was most often subtle and poignant. She was truly a lady, a leader, and a great role model. Her presence is greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
