Donald H. Pfeiler, 66, of 3221 Parkview Court SE, died unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack, Wednesday, October 3, 2007. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Monday at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. David O'Connor and the Rev. John Kramer. A vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Family Center where friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Private inurnment: Mount Calvary cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; his children, Susan Mark Pfeiler-Todd of Cedar Rapids, Mark Kendra Pfeiler of Simpsonville, South Carolina, and Megan Thomas Kostal of La Grange, Illinois; two sisters, Mary Ann Bill Kleis of Rochester, Minnesota, and Kathy Denis Wagner of Asbury; a sister-in-law, Rose Pfeiler of Dubuque; his mother-in-law, Leone Gray of Cedar Rapids; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Kirk Cathy Gray of Urbana, and Patty Greg Freeman of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, McCauley, Abigail, Morgan, Andrew, Katherine, McKenzie, Sophie, and Emma; many nieces and nephews; and an unrelated daughter, Hilery Livengood.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George; and a nephew, Jimmy Wagner.
Don was born on March 28, 1941, in Centralia to Raymond and Bernice nee Habel Pfeiler and spent his childhood on family farms in rural Dubuque. He married
Karen Gray on August 1, 1964, at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Waterloo.
He graduated from Loras Academy in Dubuque and received his B.A. in accounting from The University of Iowa in 1965. Don was a Certified Public Accountant and completed the Graduate Realtor Institute in 1973. His 40-year career included positions with McGladrey & Pullen; Armstrong's Business Office; Bickel and Byers; Landmark Realty; Pfeiler and Associates; and Iowa Realty Commercial. He also was a proprietor in the family business, Duchess Cleaners.
Don was a member of many community organizations, including Lions Club International, All Saints Catholic Church, Lake Delhi Recreation Association, Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, Iowa Association of Realtors, Society of Industrial/Office Realtors, Phi Kappa Theta, Knights of Columbus, National I-Club, University of Iowa Presidents Club, and Elmcrest Country Club. He served on the boards of directors for Linn County Aging Services, the Cedar Rapids Area Association of Realtors, and United Way, and he was a graduate of Leadership for Five Seasons.
Don's enduring legacy will best be remembered as his tireless work ethic; his strong commitment to growing and improving the Cedar Rapids community; his penchant for storytelling and sharing the history of the past; and his fierce dedication to family. He relished cheering on the Hawkeyes, always had an outdoor project underway at the family's Delhi cabin, and loved gathering family and friends to celebrate milestones and one another. His unwavering faith sustained him throughout all his years.

Mary R. Pence, 88, of Cedar Rapids died Thursday April 7, 2011 at Hallmar after a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 AM on Monday at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Rev. David Beckman will officiate. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 3 to 5 PM on Sunday and at the Church after 9:30 AM on Monday.
Survivors include a son, Robert and his wife Margie of Cedar Rapids and two daughters, Cathy Pence and her husband Dennis Murphy of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Margie and her husband Tom Bellinger of Rochester, Minnesota; a brother Pat and his wife Teresa Riley of Naples, Florida and two sisters, Martha Kelley of Los Angeles, California and Margaret Schmich of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Leslie and her husband Mark DeGroote, Brian and his wife Amanda Pence, Hannah, Grace, Mark and Luke Bellinger, and three great grandchildren, Sophie DeGroote and McKenzie and Riley Pence. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Mary was born on June 15, 1922 in Ottumwa, the daughter of Leo and Catherine Gallagher Riley. She graduated from Marycrest College in Davenport in 1944. She married
Robert L. Pence on September 24, 1950 in Ottumwa. He died in 2004. Mary was an office manager at Anesthesiologists P.C. for over 16 years, retiring in 1988. She was a faithful member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and enjoyed playing bridge. Mary was an avid reader and was an outstanding cook. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Matthew Catholic Church, Mercy Medical Center or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Leona F. Pusateri, 86, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away at the Colonial Manor, Amana, Monday, May 30, 2011. Funeral Mass: 2 p.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by the Rev. Chris Podhajsky. Interment: Mt. Calvary cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel where friends may call from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and after 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Survivors include Anthony, her husband of 64 years; children, Mary Ellen Pusateri of St. Louis, MO, Rosanne (Paul) Wisor of Lowden, William (Colette) Pusateri of Iowa City, Jean (Ron) Bean of Norway, and Joan (Jim) DeTar of Knoxville, TN; brothers, Louis (Gerry) Stolba, her twin, Leo (Carol) Stolba, and Bob (Marcella) Stolba, all of Cedar Rapids, and Leonard (Carlene) Stolba of Buena Vista, CO; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Adolph, Milo, and Emil Stolba; three sisters, Mary Ann Stolba, Margaret Phillips, and Josephine Barcus; mother-in-law, Rosa Pusateri; and brother-in-law, Gus Pusateri.
Leona was born January 12, 1925 in Cedar Rapids to Edward and Anna Dvorak Stolba. She married
Anthony Pusateri in Chicago, Illinois on November 21, 1946. Leona was a wonderful wife and mother. She loved to garden, cook, and was a compassionate caregiver. Leona was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Pope, his staff, everyone at the Colonial Manor, Amana, and Essence of Life Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Leona.

Michael Eric Pertzsch, 32, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at his home on Monday, June 5, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Pastor Tye Male officiating.
Michael was born on July 31, 1978 in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Washington High School and went onto manage several Domino Pizza stores in Iowa and Minnesota. Michael was currently a student at Kirkwood Community College where he was studying accounting. Michael enjoyed biking and spending time with his nephews.
Michael is survived by his mother Suzanne (Charles) Plant of Casper, WY; his father Merlin Pertzsch of Cedar Rapids; his sister Shaun Pertzsch of Washington D.C.; his brothers, Chuck Pertzsch (Shauna), Grimes, IA and Brian Pertzsch of Tuscon, AZ. Michael is also survived by three nephews; Julien Montgomery, Connor Pertzsch and Ryan Pertzsch.

Russell Howard Penn, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 3 PM at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with a visitation beginning at 2 PM. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Russell H. Penn was born on June 19, 1923 to William and Winifred Nowakowski Penn in Detroit, Michigan. He proudly served in the US Navy during World War II. Russell was united in marriage to Shirley Smith on September 7, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan. She passed away in 2009. Russell retired from Cherry Burrell after 37 years of service. As a young adult he boxed, played tennis, hockey and played on a minor league baseball team, the Jacksonville Tars. He also was an avid square dance caller primarily for The Promenaders. Russell enjoyed woodworking and was a Mason.
He is survived by his children, Gary Penn of Hayward, CA; Dr. Cynthia (Lynn Duecker) Penn-Duecker of Piedmont, CA; Gregory (Haydee) Penn of Cypress, TX; and Sandra (Mark) Minger of Cedar Rapids; brother, Jack Penn of Holiday, FL; 8 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
Russell is preceded in death by his parents; spouse; sister, Marge Chamberlain; and brother, William Penn.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to the American Lung Association or the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight.
Arla A Presson
Born in Maquoketa, Iowa on January 9, 1908
Departed on August 12, 2011. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Arla A. Presson, 103 of 2038 26th Street SW died Friday August 12, 2011 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy after a brief illness. Per Arla’s request there will be no service. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne Dotzauer and Judy (Gary) Svec all of Cedar Rapids, and a son, Jim of Maquoketa. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter Jo, one brother Harris and a sister Oma.
Arla was born on January 9, 1908 in Maquoketa, the daughter of Henry and Ida Tubbs Penrose. She married
Atlee Presson at the Little brown Church in Nashua. He died in 1990. Arla was an accomplished and self taught seamstress who freely gave of her talents to both family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
