Jeffrey L. Peterman
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on October 11, 1953
Departed on March 14, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Jeffrey L. Peterman, 55, of 8300 Peterman Ln. in Cedar Rapids, died Saturday March 14, 2009 in Council Bluffs unexpectedly from natural causes. Private Memorial services at 1:00 PM on Tuesday at the Buffalo United Methodist Church. Rev. Marilyn Buchanan will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Norma, two daughters, Laura (Sam) Gallo of Marion and Jennifer (Eric) Miller of Forest Lake, MN., a son, Frankie (Jessie) Peterman of Marion, his mother, Berdena of Cedar Rapids and two sisters, Donna and Clarice. He is also survived by grandchildren, Joe and Emma Gallo, Myles, Frankie and Jeffrey Peterman. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank, two brothers, Dale and Donald and a sister Dolly.

Jeff was born on Oct. 11, 1953 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Frank and Berdena Prull Peterman. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1971 and married Norma J. Miller on Nov. 25, 1972 in Marion. Jeff was self employed and owned and operated several businesses to include; Castle Chimney Sweeps, Pete’s Lunch and Castle Iron Works. He enjoyed jet skiing, cars, camping and time spent with his friends and family especially his grandchildren, whom he cherished dearly. A memorial fund has been established in Jeff’s name.

Teressa J. Protsman
Born in New Hampton, IA on May 19, 1930
Departed on November 9, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Teressa “Teddy” J. Protsman, 79, a resident of the Meth-Wick Community, died there Monday, November 9, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, November 16, 2009, in Kenwood Park United Methodist Church. Rev. Laura Smith will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 PM Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include two daughters, Sue (Gary) Gable of Denver, Iowa; Mary (Steve) Odegaard of Hiawatha; sister Jan (Harold) Armentrout of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Jessica Johnson of Hiawatha, Carrie (Matt) Proctor of Littleton, Colorado, and James Odegaard of Hiawatha, Iowa; two great-grandsons Samuel and Caleb Proctor; brother-in-law Dick (Arlene) Smith; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Connie Smith.

Teddy was born May 19, 1930, in New Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Russell and Leota Reinhart Erion. She was raised in Fayette where she graduated from high school and later received her Teaching Degree from Upper Iowa University. She married James R. Protsman on May 31, 1953 in Fayette. He died in 1972.

Teddy taught English in Monona, Shell Rock, and Dysart before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1958, and began raising their family. After Jim passed away she spent many years as a school secretary at Kennedy High School and is a member of their Hall of Fame. She was a long time member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the UMW. She was a member of PEO Chapter DK. She enjoyed cooking, baking, mysteries, word games of many kinds, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a person without complaint.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name can be made to Kenwood Park United Methodist Church, The Meth-Wick Community, St. Luke’s Hospice, or the Kennedy High School FPA.

Faynola Petersen
Born in Colesburg, IA on April 16, 1926
Departed on October 13, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Faynola Petersen, 83, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, died there Tuesday October 13, 2009. Graveside services: 11:00 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery by the Rev Randy Kasch of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include two sons, Brian L. Petersen and wife Lynette of North Liberty and Lynn E. Petersen and wife Nancy of Cedar Rapids, a granddaughter, Taylor Petersen of Cedar Rapids, a grandson, Nathanial Petersen and a granddaughter, Danielle Petersen both of North Liberty.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Louis Petersen, a son, David Petersen, a brother, Benjamin, two sisters, Ethel and Hazel, a nephew, Paul and a brothers-in-law, Melvin and Alfred.

Faynola was born April 16, 1926 in Coleburg, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Elva Haught Lorton. She married Louis C. Petersen on September 2, 1947 in Wyoming, Iowa. Faynola was a charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved sports and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Cedar Rapids Kernels and Chicago Cubs. Faynola enjoyed the activities at the Hiawatha Care Center. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Berniece Maxine Paterson
Born in Walker, Iowa on December 1, 1921
Departed on September 22, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Berniece M. Paterson, 87, of Cedar Rapids died September 22, 2009 at Garnet Place following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Thursday, September 24, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. William Warhover of Echo Hill Presbyterian Church will officiate. Visitation will take place after 2:00 PM on Thursday at the chapel. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.

Surviving are her brother Roland Lee Reece and wife Nora of Cedar Rapids; sisters Yvonne Warren of Orange, CA, and Crystal Stoner of Waterloo. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters Jean Fischel and Rosalie McAtee.

Berniece was born December 1, 1921 in Walker the daughter of Henry and Caroline (Putnam) Reece. She married Carl D. Paterson on June 7, 1943 in Cedar Rapids. She was employed at F.W. Means Company for many years. She was a long time member of Echo Hill Presbyterian Church.

Memorial donations in Berniece’s honor may be made to Echo Hill Presbyterian Church.

E. Janet Powell
Born in Austin, MN on October 10, 1918
Departed on September 19, 2009. Resided in Long Beach, CA.

Janet Powell, 90 of Methwick Manor and formally of Long Beach, CA died Saturday September 19, 2009.

Survivors include her nephews, Steven (Daniella) Ilten, Jay (Barbra) Ilten, Jeff (Terri) Ilten and one niece Barbara (Marlan) Morse and brother-in-law Eugene Ilten. Janet is preceded in death by her husband Glenn and two sisters, Jane Ilten and Anne Riemers.

Janet lived most of her life in Long Beach, CA. She was a registered nurse and served in WWII and the VA hospital in Long Beach.

Per her request, there will be no funeral and her cremains will be reunited with her husband in Long Beach. Memorials may be sent to the Glenn and Janet Foundation at Methwick Manor in Cedar Rapids.

Donald Robert Pike
Born in Spring Valley, WI on May 1, 1919
Departed on September 18, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, , IA.

Donald R. Pike, 90, a resident of Westridge Care Center died there Thursday September 17, 2009. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Faith & Life by the Rev. Perry Fruhling. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include his children, Robert D. Pike ( Janet L. ) of Longs, South Carolina, Kris A. Ruprecht (Henry) of Swisher, Craig A. Pike (Barbara) of Jacksonville, Florida, a brother, Richard W. Pike (Maxine) of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, a sister in law, Irene Rogness of Ossian, Iowa, 7 grandchildren, Kathy Marsh ( Tony) of Southaven, Mississippi, Jessica Murphy (Christopher) of Greensboro, North Carolina, Brian Pike (Tara) of Aberdeen, North Carolina, Henry J. Von Ruprecht (Rebecca) of Iowa City, Iowa, Holly Sojka (Jason) of Cedar Rapids and Jonathan Pike of Jacksonville, Florida, 7 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Gladys Pike, nephew, Ryan Rogness and a grandson, Andrew Pike.

Donald was born May 2, 1919 in Springvalley, Wisconsin, the son of Theron and Fern Herriott Pike. He married Gladys Arlene Hansen on December 13, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri. Donald was employed at Penford Products for 28 years and was a member of St. Marks Faith & Life since 1972. He served in the Army during World War II and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. His family was very important to him as well as his friends, neighbors and the patio pals. Donald was an avid Chicago Cubs and Hawkeye Fan and attended the Outback Bowl in 2009.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice.

Hazel Irene Pettit
Born in Onslow, Iowa on May 21, 1923
Departed on April 19, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Hazel Irene Pettit, 85, of 2740 Towne House Dr. NE died Sunday April 19, 2009 at St. Lukes Hospital after an extended illness. Services at 1:00 PM on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev Bob Dagit will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Friday.

Survivors include her loving husband of 65 years, Andrew, a daughter. Janet (Terry) Kuda of Cedar Rapids and a son, Kenneth (Kathryn) of Cedar Rapids and a sister, Dorothy Taylor of Deerfield, Florida. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Hazel was born on May 21, 1923 in Onslow, the daughter of Traverce and Margaret Ahrendsen Starry. She graduated from Olin High School in 1941 and attended Cedar Rapids Business School. Hazel married Andrew E. Pettit on Feb. 16, 1944 in Olin. She was a production control coordinator at W.R. Grace, later Cryovac, for 35 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church and the Cryovac Retirees Club. A memorial fund has been established in Hazel’s name.

The family would like to give special thanks to Care Givers, the staffs at St. Lukes Hospital and Hospice for their support and care. Also thanks to all family and friends who visited and supported us through our journey the past 13 years.
