Mark David Paulsen, 52, of 255 Wiley Blvd NW, died Saturday April 18, 2009 in his home from a brief illness. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday April 23, 2009 from 3-7 p.m. at LOCAL 125, Joint Apprenticeship & Journeyman Training Committee at 5101 J St SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Paulsen, his children, Dustin Paulsen and Jeremy Paulsen both of Hawaii, Sheldon Finley of Clinton, Iowa, a stepson, Chad A. Martin (Megan) of Monroe, Connecticut, his mother, Marjorie Lucille Paulsen of Davenport, his siblings, William O. Paulsen (Patti Szemkus) of Englewood, Florida, Martin M. Paulsen (Teresa Snider) of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Joseph M. Paulsen (Terri) of Oil City, Pennsylvania, and Linda S. Butler of Burke, Virginia, his nieces and nephews, Andrew Butler (Mandy) Colleen Corey (Ryan), Molly Paulsen, Michelle Laake (Andy), Zach Paulsen (Linsey), Cassandra Stroyan (Grant), Patricia Paulsen, Broc Manross and Shyan Manross. Also surviving are grandchildren, all Walatka cousins and the many friends and Local Union brothers.
He was preceded in death by his father, William “Baldy” Paulsen, his grandparents and a nephew, Kyle David Paulsen.
Mark was born July 10, 1956 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of William and Marjorie Keegan Paulsen. He married
Mary Lewis on December 30, 1999 in Iowa City. Mark was employed by Local Union # 125 as a pipe fitter. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, animals, baseball and at great fan of the St. Louis Cardinal’s. He served in the United States Navy during Peacetime.

Jessica M. Parmenter, 26, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday April 15, 2009 from a sudden illness. Memorial services 2:30 p.m. Monday at Morgan Creek Park in the main pavilion. Visitation will be Saturday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel from 1-6p.m.
Surviving Jessica are her grandparents, Ronald W. Miller and Marjorie L. Miller, her mother, Rhonda Butler, her father, Curtis Parmenter, brothers, Justin Parmenter, Abraham Johnson, a sister, Roxanne Johnson, an aunt, Brenda Trunecek and cousins, Nathan and Brandon Trunecek and friends, Chris Price and Nick Kemmerling.
Jessica was born September 24, 1982 in Cedar Rapids, where she lived with her grandparents and attended Prairie School. She worked for Industrial Piping as Central Plant Technology. In her spare time she worked for Safari Lounge and the Next Door. Jessica had a love for dogs. Her three dogs Otti, Mora and Chiclet were very special to her. She loved to meet people and was a friend to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Delores Porter, 85, of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday April 14, 2009 at St Lukes Hospital after a long illness. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
Survivors include two sons, James Shelley od Des Moines and Darryl (Tina) Whitman of Cedar Rapids and two daughters Carol (Jerome) Winters of Cedar Rapids and Glenda (Jeff) Alderson of Walker. Also surviving are a sister Iris Webber, ten grandchildren; Amber, Jason, Tera, Devin, Jamie, Janessa, Troy, Tabatha, Scott, Stacey, and two great grandchildren.
Delores Irene Porter was born December 24, 1923 in rural Guthrie Center to Glen and Jennie (Roberts) Sheeder. She worked in food service many years in various locations around Cedar Rapids. She met many people and made many friends.

Roscoe Wilbur Phipps 86, of 4429 Lee St. NE, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, in his home following a long illness. Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Saturday.
Roscoe was born October 21, 1922, in Tiawaha, Oklahoma, to James and Stella McClure Phipps. He first married
Maxine Reed on April 13, 1942. She died in 1978. He married
Ruth Null in 1979. He was a hardware buyer for Ogden & Adams Lumber for over 40 years. He was a member of the Cedar Rapids Eagles Club, and the Hawkeye Hoo-Hoo Club #193. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WW II.
Survivors include his wife Ruth, his children, Bonnie (Robert) Etter of Trenton, Missouri, Cheri (Ron) Sheronick of Marion, Roscoe (Patricia) Phipps of Cedar Rapids, Diana Pierce of Coarsegold, California, and Gail (Don) Church of Lynnwood, Washington, step children, Dan (Theresa) Null of Elkhart, Indiana, Wayne (Sheri) Null of North English, Yvonne North of Kenya, Deborah Pickner of Rowlett, Texas, and Penny (Tim) Kriz of Newhall, Iowa, his sisters Mildred Coberly of Cedar Rapids, Vernice DePriest of Mt. View, Missouri, Jera Dean Cooperman of Mesa, Arizona, and Jacqueline (Darrell) Layton of Edgerton, Kansas, and was blessed with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, two sisters Wilda, and Cleeda, a brother J. T., and daughter, Patricia.
Military honors by VFW Post No 788.

Kathryn Virginia Powers

Kathryn Virginia Powers, 86, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2010, following a lingering illness. At her request only private family services will be held.
Those left to cherish her memories are: sons Jerry (Jan), and Gordon, daughter Shirley (Allan) Smith, grandchildren Christine, Michael, Joe, Jamie, Danelle, Larry, Jason, Brian, Kathy, and Melissa, nieces, nephews, and foster children. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her siblings.
Kathryn was born November 6, 1923 in Fairfield, Iowa to Bert and Maude Bowermaster and Married Fred M. Powers in Kahoka, Missouri on June 21, 1942.
She was a homemaker and devoted mother and attended Bethany Congregational Church.
Her family would like to gratefully thank Dr. Ghosh, Mercy Hospice, and Evergreen III for their loving care of Kathryn.

Yvonne June Peasley, 79, of Cedar Rapids died Thursday January 21, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital.
Services will be 11 A.M. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel 1221 1st Ave SW. Visitation will be at the Westside Chapel from 3 P.M. till 7 P.M. Sunday January 24 with a scripture and sharing time at 5 P.M. Burial will be at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Hazleton. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters; Shirley Hamlett of Las Vegas, NV, Nancy (Charles) Lahr of Manchester and NV, Becky Robinson of Hiawatha, four sons; Randy and Larry Robinson of Oelwein, Gregory Robinson of Cedar Rapids, and Danny Robinson of Tampa, FL, a brother, Leon (Patsy) Baskerville of Independence and a step-daughter Vione Beck of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are five grandchildren; William Malone, Jessica Howorth, Melissa Robinson, Rana Schulmeister, Kathleen Lahr Rider, nine great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law Marianna Kelchen.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her husbands Loyd and Ernest, parents, a brother Leroy, and 2 great grandsons.
Yvonne was born near Earlville, IA the daughter of George and Amelia Baskerville. She graduated in 1948 from Oneida High School. After her marriage to Loyd Robinson, they farmed many years north of Masonville and raised 7 children. She later worked and retired from the Mental Health Institute in Independence as a Psychiatric Aide. After retiring, Yvonne spent countless hours volunteering especially with Mt. Olivet Mission in Cedar Rapids. She loved to cook, enjoyed talking with her numerous friends, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and listening to country music.

Francis J. Pruss, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Monday, September 7, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a brief illness.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2009 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, IA with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and from 9:00 am to service time at the church on Friday. Military rites by Marion American Legion Post 3298. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Survivors include his daughters, Judith Pruss Rogers of Richmond Hill, ONT, Lisa Pruss Fenner (Larry) and Sharon Pruss Taylor (Richard), both of Cedar Rapids; step-daughter, Vickie Beranek of Colton, CA; step-son, Michael Beranek of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Thomas Rogers, Claire Rogers, Alexandria Koranda, Taylor Koranda and Gracelyn Taylor; step-grandchildren, Sarah Fenner, Matt Fenner, Olivia Taylor, Nichole Beranek and Weston Beranek; brothers, Albert Pruss (Lois) of Midland, MI, Richard Pruss (Doris) of Dodge, NE, and Fr. Rodney Pruss of Goodyear, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter, Faith Curtis, and his step-son, Kenneth Beranek.
Francis J. Pruss was born October 15, 1922 in Orchard, NE, the son of Albert and Bessie (Tresnak) Pruss. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving as a Staff Sergeant in the European Theatre and was awarded the Bronze Star for gallantry. Francis graduated with honors from the University of Michigan Law School and practiced law in Cedar Rapids and Central City for many years until his retirement in 1982. Francis was well known in Linn County for his legal tenacity and his love of farming. He had a vision for land development, the proceeds from which will provide a significant benefit to student scholarship funds at Kirkwood Community College, Coe College, Mount Mercy College, Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan.
