Axel J. Petersen, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday September 5, 2009 in his home. Services:1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church by the Rev. Randy Kasch. Visitation will begin at the church at 12:00 p.m. until service time. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife Suzanne, his children, Pegi (Alex) Anton of Cedar Rapids, Ralph Petersen of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Eric (Tracy) Petersen of Cedar Rapids, grandchildren, Andrew Petersen, Thomas Petersen, Katharine Anton, Joseph Petersen, Anna Petersen and Christian Anton all of Cedar Rapids, and a sister Anna Wihrs of Denmark.
His parents preceded him in death.
Axel was born March 19, 1926 in Vejle, Denmark, the son of Ejnar and Jensine Petersen. He married
Suzanne Lobdell on February 14, 1959 in Iowa City. Axel was a Sheet Metal Worker for Local #263, where he was Secretary and instrumental in getting health care and pension benefits for his fellow workers. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and served in the Army during the Korean War. Axel was very proud of his family and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities. Axel radiated positive energy showing his family and friends the best in life.
Memorials may be made to the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan YMCA in lieu of flowers.
Pauline Agnes Pristash

Pauline Agnes Pristash, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died August 28, 2009 at her home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday September 2, 2009 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Marion with Rev. David Hagstrom officiating. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her Sisters Phyllis Mary Allison of Cornucopia Wisconsin, Alveda Rose Spencer of Phoenix Arizona, Natalie Rae Jehu of Crestwood IL; Brother John William Pristash Jr. of Canyon Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents John William Pristash Sr. and Marion Clarice Kaufman.
Pauline Agnes Pristash was born January 21, 1933 in Cornucopia, WI the daughter of John and Marion Pristash. Pauline was very active at St. Mark’s Lutheran church and served as the council secretary for over 30 years. She retired from teaching in 1998 and taught at Arthur Elementary school in Cedar Rapids for many years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are to be directed to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Marion, 8300 C Ave NE, Marion, IA 52302.

Wesley J. Prokop, Jr. 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed quietly into the arms of Jesus on August 21, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Rev. Rick Gail officiating. Interment will be held in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM on Monday, August 24, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
Wes is survived by his wife Bernice of 63 years; children Ron (Julie) Prokop of Solon, Sue (Roger) Jensen of Cedar Rapids, and adopted daughter Rosie; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wesley J. and Marvel (Nandell) Prokop; a son Danny Ray; one brother; and two sisters.
Wesley John Prokop, Jr. was born September 4, 1928 to Wesley and Marvel (Nandell) Prokop in Cedar Rapids. He married
Bernice Hagerman on August 30, 1947 in North Liberty, IA. Wes was a painting contractor for over 60 years.
Wes was a member of Cedar Rapids Homebuilders, past president of PDCA, past president of WFLA, Lodge 500, Elks, VFW and Eagles Club. He greatly enjoyed slots, camping, fishing, woodworking and his cabin. Wes was blessed to have a very unique and joyous personality with a laugh recognized by all who knew him. He loved everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by all.
Family would like to express a special thank you to the St. Luke’s Hospice and to the St. Luke’s Hospital staff for the great care given to Wes and the family.
Military honors by VFW Post No 788.

Virginia I. Peltier

Virginia I. Peltier, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, July 27, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Interment: Oak Hill cemetery, Tama. Visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Family graveside services will be held at Oak Hill cemetery, Tama, IA. Arrangements are entrusted to Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.
Virginia was born August 28, 1921 in Tama, Iowa. She married
Desmond Thomas “Tom” Peltier on June 1, 1941 in Princeton, Missouri. They moved from Maquoketa to Cedar Rapids in 1963. Virginia enjoyed square dancing, being an Air Force Mother, member of Unity Center, and attending Witwer’s. She was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Marion from 1963 to 1990, then Hope Lutheran in Cedar Rapids. Virginia was a lover of all animals, especially her dachshund, Ruby.
Virginia is survived by her husband, Tom Peltier of Cedar Rapids; her children, Sheryle (Lawrence) Riley of Maquoketa, Gary Peltier and Jeffrey Peltier, both of Cedar Rapids, and Cynthia (Ron) Davis of Toddville; nine grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
Virginia was preceded in death by her mother, Rilla Larson; son, Steve Peltier; and granddaughter, Lori Riley.
Virginia’s family would like to recognize and thank St. Luke’s Hospice, 4 Center Hospital staff, and Dr. Zenk and staff for their wonderful service and loving care.
A memorial fund has been established.

Gary M. Pope, 60, of 1424 7th Ave SW, died Saturday June 27, 2009 in Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Memorial services: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. William B. Harnish. Visitation will be Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel from 4-7 p.m. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Shelly Hurd and husband Jaydee of Cedar Rapids and Jenny Kitzmiller and husband Eric of Cedar Rapids, three grandchildren, Megan and Matthew Kitzmiller and Cyrus Hurd.
His parents preceded him in death.
Gary was born November 24, 1948 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Menzo and Ida Candler Pope. He married
Janet M. Oakley on May 3, 1969 and were married
for 36 years. He was a pipe fitter for Modern Piping in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of Local Union #125 and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, driving the country side and drinking with friends.

Donald L. Proksa, 61, of 2240 Copper Dr in Marion died Monday June 15, 2009 at Mercy Medial Center after a sudden illness. Memorial services at 11:00 AM on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara, and a son Shawn of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by a grandson, Drew and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Pamela Hruby.
Don was born on June 29, 1947 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph and Doris Dolley Proksa. He married
Barbara J. Sternberg on January 28. 1967 in Cedar Rapids. Don was a millwright at Cryovac for over 32 years. He was a member Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Metro Harley Owners Group and the Teamsters. He was a former member of the Millwright Union Local 2158 and the Carpenters Union Local 308. Don enjoyed riding his Harley, working out and especially time spent with his beloved family especially his grandson, Drew.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Arthritis Foundation in Don’s name.
