Lillian Mae Reynolds Brown, 85, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died at Northbrook Care Center, Wednesday, April 8, 2009 after a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. Sonda Kirsteatter. Burial: Palo cemetery. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Saturday. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian was born May 24, 1923 in Palo and graduated from Palo High School. She received a certificate from the University of Iowa College of Engineering for completing a course in math, radio, circuit, and engineering. She worked for Collins Radio/Rockwell Collins for 35 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of IBEW #1362. Lillian was a longtime member of Olivet Presbyterian Church and the M & M Circle.

Surviving her are a daughter, Sandra (Jim) Young of Cedar Rapids; four sons, Gregory (Lynn) Brown of Palo, Douglas (Lynette) Brown and Kenneth (Cherrie) Brown, all of Cedar Rapids, and Ronald (Beth) Brown of Walford; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Brown of Mt. Vernon, WA and Cheryl (Jim) Bonebright of Danville, IL; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Karelvicz of Cedar Rapids, Faye Reynolds of Palo, and Betty (Larry) DeSotel and Pauline Hall, all of Marion; and sister-in-law, Shirley Reynolds of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edward in 2007; infant daughter, Linda; two brothers; and two sisters.

Lillian enjoyed doing embroidery work, writing poetry, genealogy, traveling and basketball games. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Memorials may be made to the Olivet Presbyterian Church or to the donor’s choice.

Charles F. Raines
Born in Rock Camp, WV on February 20, 1926
Departed on March 19, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Charles F. Raines, 83, of Cedar Rapids passed away Thursday March 19, 2009 at St. Lukes Hospital. There will be no service. There will be a visitation celebrating Charlie’s life from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. Monday March 23, 2009 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.

Survivors include four daughters, Nancy Raines of Chicago, IL and Linda Raines and her husband Stewart Maida of Cedar Rapids, Connie Turner of San Antonio, TX and Vicky (Leroy) Farmer of San Antonio, TX. Also surviving are six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and his beloved cats, Mancini and Beethoven.

He is preceded in death by his wife June, a sister and his parents.

Charles Fleet Raines was born February 20, 1926 in Rock Camp, WV to Charles F. Sr. and Lockie Raines. He married June Bull on June 20, 1953 in Peters Township, PA. He owned and operated Raines and Associates for many years. He served as a corpsman with the US Navy during WWII. His passions were playing duplicate bridge as he obtained the rank of Life Master and investing in the stock market.

Memorial donations may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice in Charlie’s name.

Pastor Bernard H. Reece
Born in Coggon, Iowa on January 31, 1916
Departed on March 15, 2009. Resided in Bellevue, Nebraska.

Pastor Bernard H. Reece, 93, of Bellevue, Nebraska, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, March 15, 2009 in Omaha, Nebraska, following a short illness. Services will be held at 11 AM Friday in First Assembly of God Church. Rev. Larry Sohn and Rev. Rick Gail will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 10 AM Friday at the Church.

Survivors include five children, Naomi Norton and husband Don of Omaha, Nebraska, Irene Cramer and husband George of Cedar Rapids, Linda Hayes of East Moline, Illinois, William Reece and wife Marilyn of Omaha, and Daniel Reece and wife Debbie of Keokuk, Iowa, two sisters Wilma Gilchrist of Center Point, Iowa, and Phyllis Chramosta of Cedar Rapids, sixteen grandchildren, forty two great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother Esther Marie Reece, wife Opal, and grandson Shane Hayes.

Bernard was born January 31, 1916, in Coggon, Iowa to Curtis and Neva Long Reece. He married Opal M. Sexton on June 15, 1935 in Cedar Rapids. She died October 23, 2003. He was a pastor at First Assembly of God in Cedar Rapids from 1987 to 2008. He also served churches in Le Mars, Creston, Keokuk, and Carroll, Iowa. He was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan.

A memorial fund has been established in his name.

Leona E. Reynolds

Leona E. Reynolds, 83, of Palo, died at her home, Friday, August 15, 2008 after an extended illness. Services; 2 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. Marilyn Buchanan from Buffalo United Methodist Church. Interment: Palo cemetery. A visitation will be held today from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel and after 1 p.m. Tuesday. Leona is survived by five sisters, Mary Karelvicz ofCedar Rapids, Lillian Brown, Betty DeSotel, and Pauline Hall, all of Marion, and Faye Reynolds of Palo; and her sister-in-law, Shirley Reynolds of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and James Reynolds; and a sister, Ruth Ann Reynolds. Leona was born on February 7, 1925 in Palo to Arthur and Ida Reynolds. She worked for Rockwell-Collins for over 28 years, retiring in 1988. She was also employed by the FBI where she was a fingerprint classifier. She was a member of Buffalo United Methodist Church. Instead of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Mercy or Buffalo United Methodist Church.

Dorothy Mae Rodman

Dorothy Mae Rodman, 94, of Evergreen Estates died at Mercy Medical Center on Wednesday Aug. 27, 2008 after a brief illness. Services at 11 AM on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Jay Jentink will officiate. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday.Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Marvin Shaffer of Marion, Julia Mick Ransome of Central City, Donna Larry Funk of Walker and a son, Donald Alleen Rodman of Mt. Vernon. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 brothers and one great granddaughter.Dorothy was born on May 1, 1914 in Marion, the daughter of Joseph and Julia Fitch Robinson. She married Charles W. Rodman on June 26, 1935 in Lisbon. He died in 1988. Dorothy was a homemaker and a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing with her husband and family, Bible Study, singing hymns, and playing piano, especially for the residents of several nursing homes when she was in her 80s. Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all. Memorial donations may be given to Calvary Baptist Church.

Wilma E. Kauten

Wilma E. Kauten, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died August 27, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September, 2, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Donald Klein of St. Pius X Catholic Church will officiate. Friends may call from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Monday, September 1, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where a rosary will take place at 4:30 PM that evening. Interment will take place at Immaculate Conception Church cemetery, Fairbank, Iowa at 3:00 PM.Survivors include her children Patricia Haas and husband Norm of Cassville, WI, Robert Kauten and wife Joan of Cedar Rapids, Wayne Kauten and wife Diane of Omaha, NE, Paul Kauten and wife Theresa of Sheldon, Kathryn Stanard and husband Robert of Prairieburg, Raymond Kauten and wife Amy of Postville, Mary Shields of Virginia, and Jim Kauten and wife Rosemary of Alura, Minnesota. She is also survived by 22 grand children, 6 step grandchildren, 24 great-grand children, 4 step great-grandchildren; brothers Oscar of Wisconsin, Clifford and Emil Harold both of Oregon; as well as many nieces and nephews, and extended family.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry, son-in-law John Shields, an infant daughter, and brothers and sisters Elnor, Ruebin, Berdina, Henrietta, and Loretta.Wilma Emma Kauten was born March 3, 1918 in Millville, Iowa the beloved daughter of Henry and Erma Franks Weidemann. She was united in marriage to Henry Kauten on November 30, 1940 in Wisconsin. She was employed for several years in food service at Coe College. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, and also was a member of the Golden Age group at the church. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends at the Five Seasons Senior Housing, and especially enjoyed craft work. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed by all.

Dorothy Rothman

Dorothy Rothman, 92, of 202 35th St SE, died Saturday September 6, 2008 in St. Luke's Hospital from complications of C.O.P.D. Services: Private. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Sheila Balas Marvin Carney of Cedar Rapids, granddaughters, Revital Kaplan Bradley of New York City, Calaneet Perry Nicholas of Washington D.C. and two great grandchildren, Dalia and Eden Kaplan.
Her parents, a brother and a sister preceded her in death.
Dorothy was born November 21, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of David and Esther Finkle Mazor. She was married to Irvin Lunin and Samuel Rothman. They both preceded her in death. Dorothy was an avid reader. She enjoyed great food and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
Memorials may be made to Arthritis Foundation Metro D.C. Chapter, 2011 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington D.C. 20006.

Robert G. Ritchison

** Robert G. Ritchison, 71, of 1723 4th Ave. SE. died Sunday Sept. 7, 2008 at his home after a brief illness. Graveside services with military rites at 1:00 PM on Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Friends may call after Noon on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his brother, Richard and his wife, Carmen of Cookeville, Tennessee. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bob was born on April 12, 1937 in Iowa City, the son of Cleon and Arlene Null Ritchison. He worked in the packaging dept. at Quaker Oats for 11 years. He enjoyed playing his guitar, harmonica, dancing, his pets and riding his motor cycle. Bob proudly served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.
A memorial fund has been established in Bob's name. Military rites by American Legion Hanford Post No. 5.
