Selma G. Samuel, 91, 2115 First Ave. SE died Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Cottage Grove Place, The Oaks. She was born near Carterville, Illinois to Robert F. Samuel and Elizabeth Jane Richmond Samuel on February 8, 1914, the last of 11 children, all of whom predeceased her. She lived for 75 years on North Lake Shore Drive in Chicago and was employed in the beauty salon of downtown Marshall Fields for over 55 years, retiring at the age of 82. She moved to Cedar Rapids to be near her niece, Elizabeth Jane DeWitte and her children Dana and David, in August 1998. The joy of her life was David's son Calvin. She is survived by many nieces and nephews who have a special place in their hearts for this warm, loving, gentle lady. She traveled extensively during her lifetime. Following cremation, Remembrance Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Cottage Grove Place, Oak Hall. A graveside committal service for family members will be held in Carterville, IL on May 28th. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.

Margaret Irene Smith, 102, of Shellsburg, died at her daughter's home, Saturday, December 4, 2004 after a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Bill Harnish. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter Edna Marvin Mosher of Shellsburg; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 11 great great grandchildren.
Margaret was born August 10, 1902 in Scotch Grove and married
William Smith in 1922. They were later divorced. She was a clerk at May's Drugstore for many years until it's closing.

George William Thiher, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, October 9, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Private Graveside Services: Big Grove cemetery, Vinton. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.
George is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Steve (Barbara) Thiher of Cedar Rapids, Bruce Thiher and Mark (Terri) Thiher, both of Minneapolis, MN, and James (Donna) Thiher of LaCrosse, WI; stepsons, Michael Herman of Minneapolis, MN and James Herman of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Steven, Michael, Sara, David, Richard, Tom, Nicki, Rachel, Michelle, Andrew, Hannah, and Nathan; and great grandchildren, Anna and Mayla. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dolores; four brothers, Lynn, Ottah, Albert and David; and grandson, Jacob.
George was born January 6, 1925 in Vinton to Albert and Emma Thiher. He married
Dolores Baumgartner in 1946 in Vinton. She died in 1981. He married
Dorothy Herman in 1985 in Cedar Rapids. He was employed by Sieg until his retirement in 1985. He was a Charter member of the Golden K Kiwanis and a member of the VFW #788. George was an avid fisherman and loved to play cards. His family was very proud of his and Dorothy’s contributions for the Mercy Women’s Center and other community projects.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to the Linn County Food Bank or Hospice House of Mercy.

George D. Young, 55, of 4316 Regal Ave NE, died Friday, December 29, 2006, in his home following a long illness. There will be no services. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Suzanne, six sons Ken, Calvin, Ethan, Andrew, and Stephen all of Cedar Rapids, and Joshua of Champaign, Illinois, three sisters Kathy Kalba of Villa Rica, Georgia, Lynn Cowell of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Maureen Smith of Garden Grove, California, and his mother in law Janette Ames of Hiawatha. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mary Mattern, and a nephew Johnny Mattern.
George was born October 10, 1951 in Brooklyn, New York to Joseph and Elizabeth Colgan Young. He married
Suzanne Ames on September 3, 1987 in Cedar Rapids. He was a self-employed plumber.
George enjoyed playing poker and spending time with his family and friends.

Orville L. Thomas, 91, of the Hiawatha Care Center died there on Friday August 13, 2010 after an extended illness. Services at 11:00 AM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 10:00 AM on Monday Burial with military rites at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a sister, Ethel (Russell) Wiebold of Westminster, Colorado; brother and sister-in-law Milton and Onalee Arnold of Marion; sisters-in-law, Alice Arnold of Dubuque, Esther Thomas of Anamosa, Dee Thomas of Acton, California and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris, four brothers and four sisters.
Orville was born on January 15, 1919 in Iowa County, the son of Hugh and Iva Ochs Thomas. He served his country in WWII as a Machinist’s Mate First Class, US Navy. Orville was united in marriage to Doris E. Arnold on August 15, 1953 in Central City. He was the owner of Orv’s Brake and Alignment in Cedar Rapids for nearly 40 years. Following retirement, he worked as a groundskeeper at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and cemetery. Orville was a member of Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed playing bridge, music, pitching horseshoes and making ice cream with family and friends.
Memorial donations may be given to Echo Hill Presbyterian Church in Orville’s name.

Albert J. Scott, 84, of 3723 H Ave NE, died Thursday, December 2, 2004, in St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Services with military honors at 1 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Monday.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Dahlby of Urbandale, Iowa, and Barbara Scott of Golden, Colorado, two sons, James of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and Robert of Medford, Oregon, a sister, Maie Satterfield of Santa Rosa, California, ten grandchildren, one great-grandson, and two sisters-in-law, Lola Schmidt and Dorothy Wortman both of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Albert was born April 16, 1920 in Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan, Canada to James and Sadie Keeler Scott. He served in the US Navy during WW II. He married
Margaret Schroeder on September 1, 1946 in Lakota, Iowa. She died October 1, 2003. He graduated from Iowa State College in 1953 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was employed by Rockwell-Collins until taking early retirement in 1982.

Dennis D. Selness, 53, of 1310 Terrace St. Marion died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Services at 2 PM on Sat. at the Linn Mar High School Gymnasium. Rev. Bob Hoover and Rev. H. Burr Bryant will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Linn Mar High School Upper Commons from 4 to 8 PM on Friday.
Survivors include his parents, Lowell and Bette Selness, two brothers, Scott and his wife, Becky and Terry and his wife, Mary all of Mabel, MN. He is also survived by four nephews, one niece and a special friend, Darlene Philips of North Liberty.
Dennis was born on May 31, 1951 in Spring Grove, MN. He graduated and received his master's degree from Iowa State University. Dennis was an Agriculture Teacher at Linn Mar High School for 28 years. He received an Honorary Iowa FFA degree in 1982 and was a lifetime member of the FFA. He was the Iowa Ag Science Teacher of the Year in 1993 and received the Iowa Friend of Agriculture Award in 1994, Iowa Outstanding Agriculture Program in 2000, Iowa Conservation Teacher of the Year in 2001, Marion Times 2004 Marion Citizen of the Year and the National FFA Organization Honorary American FFA degree in 2004. Dennis was a worldwide traveler and an avid card player. He was instrumental in the development of the Aqua Center at Linn Mar High School, which was dedicated to him in 2003. Dennis was dedicated to his students. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Dennis D. Selness Center for Aquaculture Education at Linn Mar.
Terry L. Zuber

Terry L. Zuber, 64, of Norway, went home to be with the Lord on March 31, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, April 9, 2010 at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Rev. Daniel Kolander will officiate. Family will receive friends and relatives at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2010. Private burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Joanne; two daughters: Chris (Paul) Engelby of Fairmont, MN, and Patty (Lewis) McDorman of Bowie, MD; four grandchildren: Emily and Ashley Engelby, and Jacob and Amanda McDorman; a brother: Tim of Arizona; and an aunt: Betty Uthoff of Norway.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Ella Mae Zuber.
Terry was born August 3, 1945 in Cedar Rapids. He married
Joanne Wright on July 3, 1965. He worked at Iowa Electric Light & Power Company for 36 years, retiring in 2001.
