Helen M. Schwitzer, 84, of Minnetonka, Minnesota, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, August 12, 2004, in the Emerald Crest Care Center following a long illness. Services at 10 AM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Linda Livingston of the Ascension Lutheran Church in Marion will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM on Monday and at the chapel after 9 AM on Tuesday.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Werner "Bill", a son Dr. Kent Schwitzer and wife Linda of Minnetonka, a sister Wilma Hardlein of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and four granddaughters Alyssa, Erica, Claire, and Emily. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Leo Anderson, and an infant son Gerald.
Helen was born July 5, 1920 in Washington County, Iowa. She was a homemaker and from 1948 to 1953 worked in the office at McGladrey, Hansen, and Dunn. She was a former member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. She attended Parsons College graduated AIB Secretarial School in Davenport. In 1936 she was in the State Beauty Contest from Keota, Iowa. She married
Werner D. "Bill" on October 3, 1942 in Lancaster, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Phyllis J. Stolba, 80, of 1435 29th Street NE, died Monday, August 9, 2004, in her home following a sudden illness. Services at 10:30 AM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Dr. William Jamison of First Congregational Church will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday and at the chapel after 10 AM on Friday.
Survivors include three sons Kurt Stolba and wife Andrea of Norway, Kary Stolba and wife Teresa, and Jay Stolba and wife Sarah all of Cedar Rapids, four grandchildren, Matthew and wife Carolyn, Kaitlin, Rachel, and Gus, and a great grandson Evan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother Robert Merrill. Phyllis was born June 5, 1924 in Anamosa to Fay and Cleola Peters Merrill. She married
Vernon A. Stolba on September 18, 1943 in Cedar Rapids. He died February 27, 1990. Phyllis attended First Congregational Church and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends.
Phyllis will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Mildred A. Vosdingh, 97, of Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, died there Sunday, March 23, 2008, after a long illness. Memorial Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James United Methodist Church by the Rev. Beth Staw. Private Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Masoleum. Friends may visit with the family after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Alida Don Taylor of Cedar Rapids, and Mildred Ann Heinze of Amana; a son, Robert Marilyn Vosdingh of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; a daughter, Lillian Woods; a granddaughter, Linda Sulzner; a son-in-law, James Heinze; three sisters; and two brothers.
Mildred was born on September 12, 1910 in Hull, Quebec, Canada to Henry and Lillian Navin. She married
John Vosdingh on November 1, 1927 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1969. She and John Vosdingh owned the Venetian Blind Hospital.
Mildred was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and the Women's Society. She loved to knit and bake. Mildred liked working with the Women's Society but her greatest pleasure was her grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Heritage Nursing and Rehab as well as Amenity Hospice for the loving care extended to Mildred.

Survivors include her children, Ollie Mae Williams of Cedar Rapids, Emma G. Squires of Cedar Rapids, Shirley Browning of Cedar Rapids, Julious L. Williams of Cedar Rapids, Rose H. Merritt of Marion, and Steven A. Williams of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Kimberly, Trena, Christina, Catherine, Caroline, Cory, Camron, Nathan, David, Cindy, Dewanda, and Carlos, and 10 great grandchildren, Nathash, Nathaniel, Joshua, James, Shelby, Cheyene, Avery, Jordon, Shayle and Devin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joshua Williams, parents, 3 brothers, Dave, John and Walter and a sister, Alice Levy.
Pinkie was born August 8, 1916 in Yazoo County, Mississippi, the daughter of Walter and Cissy Julious. Yazoo County, Mississippi is where she married

Survivors include five daughters, Sheree Beam of Madison, Wisconsin, Becky Mike Merritt, Denise Mark Koch, and Annie Bill Merritt, all of Cedar Rapids, and Casey Steve Fuller of Springville; two sisters, Dotti Dougherty and Linda Leo Shields of Cedar Rapids; thirteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and her special dog Kandi.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, an uncle and aunt, Elsie and Tony Vopalka; her brother-in-law Al Dougherty; and a grandson little Javier. Patricia was born December 5, 1940 in Iowa City to George and Anna Vopalka Shilhon. She was employed by CRST for over 3 years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading and taking care of her flowers.

Marcelle is survived by her daughter Charlotte Bill McCusker of Sun City, AZ; son Ron Terrie Smith of Savannah, MO: daughter Cynthia Robert James of Ely, IA: daughter-in-law Ronda Smith of Silvis, IL: brother Richard Sweeting of Cedar Rapids, IA: eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Marcelle was preceded in death by her husband, George Randy Smith of Ely, her parents, two brothers, one sister, a son Stephen Smith, and a grandson Jimmy Smith.
She was born September 3, 1923 to Orral and Louise Sweeting in Cedar Rapids, She graduated from Roosevelt High School with the Class of 1941 and married
George R. Smith on October 11, 1941 in Kahoka, MO. George and Marcie lived in Ely for the last 30 years developing land and building homes. Marcelle was a homemaker, an active volunteer in many organizations, a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, and a member of Town and Country Club of Ely. She loved her family and friends, and all flowers and birds.
The family suggests memorial gifts be sent to St. Luke's Hospital Hospice Program in Cedar Rapids.

Gladys Genevieve Tharp was born May 25, 1911 in Anamosa to Jake and Minnie Streeter. She was a graduate of Penn College in Oskaloosa.
She is survived by a daughter Karen K. Thompson of Harlan, IA step sons Richard Tharp of Cedar Rapids, IA and Ronald Tharp of Boone, NC, and a sister LaVonne Carlson of Moberly, MO. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
Gladys is preceded in death by a son Donovan Tharp and her parents Jake and Minnie Streeter.
