Hazel Harriet Zimmerman, passed away Sunday January 16, 2005 in her home after an extended illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Turner West Funeral Home, where friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
Born June 5, 1928 in Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Miles and Beula Heck. She married Cecil Zimmerman on January 8, 1947 in Cedar Rapids. She worked for Square D. Company as a press punch operator for 15 years before leaving to go to California in 1968. She returned to Cedar Rapids in 1985. Hazel enjoyed crocheting, gambling, cards, bowling. She was a member of the Outcasts at Lancer Lanes, and a race car driver for Cemar Race Track in Cedar Rapids. She was a great cook and famous for her pies. She made the best. Above all, Hazel enjoyed spending time with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Michael Zimmerman Rhondell Montclair, Ca, Becky Bell of Cedar Rapids, Cecil Zimmerman Jr. Linda of Palmdale, Ca, Janeen Rambo of Las Vegas, NV, granddaughter of whom she raised. She had 10 grandchildren, Shawn BellCarolyn of California, Joey Bell Carmen of Marion, Jeff Bell-Davison Tracy of Cedar Rapids and Mark Bell Aimee of Ely, Michelle Burrough, JC Zimmerman, Robbie Enslow, Travis Zimmerman all of California and Teri Ann Edwards of Minnesota. She had 24 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by her brother, Floyd Wilma Heck of Walker, a sister in law Vera Heck of Guersney and her brothers in law, Glen Millie Rick Shirley Frances Carlotta LaMarr Scofield. Other sisters in law, Lois Oliver Walkner, Norma Hadrava, many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cecil Zimmerman, her brothers, Orville Dot Heck, Dean Fern Heck, Milo Heck, mother and father in law, Olive and Eugene Zimmerman, sisters in law, Berniece Scofield, Carol Ramm, and her brother in law, Don Zimmerman.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Mercy.

Lola M. Stillions
Born in Baldwin, Iowa on November 5, 1915
Departed on October 1, 2007. Resided in Marion, IA.

Lola M. Stillions 91, a resident of Crestview Acres Care Center in Marion, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, October 1, 2007, at Crestview following a long illness. Graveside services and interment at 11 AM Friday in Resthaven section of Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Rev. Perry Fruhling of St. Mark's Lutheran Church will officiate. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include her granddaughter Jodi Harris and husband John of Marion, two great grand children Noelle and husband Tim Wittkop, and Danielle Hahn, five step great grand children, a daughter in law Connie Glick and husband Galen, and a special niece Mary Stillions, all of Marion, and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son John M. Stillions, a grandson John M. Stillions Jr., and her sister Lila Weirup.

Lola was born November 5, 1915 in Baldwin, Iowa to Charles and Nellie Currie Conger. She married John D. Stillions on February 14, 1939 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1995. She worked in sales at Montgomery Wards from 1954 to 1973. She enjoyed fishing, camping, crafting, reading, traveling, and was an excellent cook.

A memorial fund has been established.

Patricia Ann Stenzel
Born in Strawberry Point, IA on April 1, 1941

Patricia Ann Stenzel, 66, 3027 C Ave NE died Friday, September 28, 2007 at her home following a sudden illness. Funeral Mass: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. Matthews Catholic Church. Inurnment is private. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Surviving are two sons, Tim Stenzel of Sunnyvale, CA and Jon Stenzel of Newton; two sisters, Jody Galliart of Milwaukee, WI and Niki Evans of Sunnyvale, CA and a brother, Chuck Lane of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Katie Agnew and Elly Rosenthal.

Pat was born April 1, 1941 in Strawberry Point the daughter of John Vernon and Marion Casey Lane. She had worked for Rockwell Collins for almost 30 years. She was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church. Pat had many friends who loved her very much, and she loved them too.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthews Catholic Church.

Alan Shaffer
Born in Linn County on February 8, 1918
Departed on September 25, 2007. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Alan Shaffer, 89, of Manor Care died there on Tuesday Sept. 25, 2007 after a short illness. Services at 1:00 PM on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Entombment with military rites at the Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday.

Survivors include two sisters, Annabel Fritz of Marshalltown and Mary Buck of Logansport, IN. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Florence Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 3 sisters, Winifred Hemphill, Ethel Fay and Mina Beatty, and 4 brothers, Gerald, Dale, Marvin and Donnell.

Alan was born on Feb. 8, 1918 in Linn County, the son of Mathias and Alice Dudley Shaffer. He was the 7th in a family of 10 children. When he was 5 years old the family moved to a farm in Buchanan County where he attended rural schools. After completing the 8th grade, Alan quit school to work on his father's farm. In 1938 Alan joined the Civilian Conservation Corps where he remained until August 1941 when he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Alan served overseas from Oct. 1942 until Jan. 1945 in New Zealand, Hawaii and participated in the Guadalcanal, Siapan and Tinian Campaigns. Upon returning to the United States, he was discharged in Sept. 1945 with the rank of technical sergeant.

Alan worked at Rapid Chevrolet in Cedar Rapids from 1945-1950. He enlisted in the inactive Marine Reserves in 1947 for four years. In Aug. of 1950 Alan requested active duty and was assigned recruiting duty. In May of 1951 he was promoted to Master Sergeant.

He married Alberta M. Schuckert on Sept. 7, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. She died in 2003. He began work for the U.S. Post Office in 1955 where he remained for the next 24 years, until his retirement in Nov. 1979. During his postal career he had received a Superior Accomplishment Award for "diligence and excellence of performance" and several safe-driving awards.

He was a member of VFW Post No. 788, St. Paul's United Methodist Church and American Legion Hanford Post No. 5. He and his wife, Alberta liked traveling and fishing when they were able. Alan especially enjoyed having breakfast with his friends at HyVee in recent years. He enjoyed poetry and wrote poems. A memorial fund has been established in Alan's name. Military rites by VFW Post No. 788.

James W. Shogren
Born in Bishop Hills, Illinois on May 27, 1922
Departed on September 14, 2007. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

James W. Shogren, 85, of 4113 Lexington Ct. NE. died Friday Sept. 14, 2007 at St. Lukes Hospital after a brief illness. Services at 11 AM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Jim Langley will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include his wife, Edel, two daughters, Christine Brody and her husband, Blair, of Mason City and Janis Kiley and her husband, Kevin of Cedar Rapids, a son, Steven and his wife, Kay, of Eagan, MN., a brother, Lloyd of Iowa City and a half sister, Dorothy of Florida. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Lisa, Mike, Lindsay, Matthew, Susan and Anna Marie. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Della, and two brothers, Carl and Howard.
Jim was born on May 27, 1922 in Bishop Hill, Illinois, the son of Arvid and Esther Carlson Shogren. He married Della I. Beyer on May 30, 1943 in Vinton. She died in 1988. He later married Edel Millar on Aug. 10, 1991 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Jim owned and operated Jim's Tune-Up and Service for 28 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Eagles Club, VFW. Post No. 788 and proudly serviced in the Army Air Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed flying and especially time spent with his many friends and beloved family.

Violette M. Yanda
Born in Chicago, Illinois on December 2, 1906
Departed on January 27, 2005. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Violette Marie Yanda, 98, of 2733 Lindale Ave NE, died Thursday, January 27, 2005, in Mercy Medical Center, following a short illness. Services at 2 PM Saturday in First Church of the Nazarene with Dr. Forrest Whitlach and Rev. Charles Keyes officiating. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday and at the church after 1 PM on Saturday.
Survivors include her daughter Bever Lee Tate of Cedar Rapids,
Grandchildren: Susan Williams of Pleasanton, California, Sharon Thomsen of Cedar Rapids, Sandy Tate of Marion, and Scott Tate of Cappell, Texas, six great-grandchildren, and her longtime dear friend of over 50 years Lois Hanson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson, two sisters, and one brother.
Violette was born December 2, 1906, in Chicago, Illinois to Carl and Fannie McGaghie Fliermans. She married Fred Yanda on September 19, 1927 in Cedar Rapids. Fred and Violette owned and managed the Commonwealth Apartments, and after Fred's death in 1945 she continued for several years to operate the Apartments. She was the last living charter member of First Church of the Nazarene where she had attended for over 82 years. She also volunteered for St. Luke's Auxiliary, the Red Cross, and helped with Cerebral Palsy Children., for several years. She loved flowers and was especially known for her roses.
A memorial fund has been established.

June "Elaine" Zumwalt
Born in Grinnell, IA on March 26, 1920
Departed on July 28, 2006. Resided in Keystone, IA.

June "Elaine" Zumwalt, 86, formerly of 3229 Wilson Ave SW, Cedar Rapids, died July 28, 2006 in Keystone Care Center.. Services 3 PM Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Dr. Leonard Ranson will officiate. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 6 PM at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, with a prayer service beginning at 5 PM. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.

Survivors include nephew Michael Schmitz and wife Gail of Cedar Rapids, nieces Donna McGurk and husband Larry of Walford and Marie Schulte and husband Kurt of Fairfax, great nieces and nephews Cody Schmitz, Mellany and Marley McGurk, and Zachary and Alaina Schulte. She is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and longtime roommate Dickie Staecker.

June Elaine Zumwalt was born March 26, 1920 in Grinell the daughter of Elmer and Louise Zumwalt. She was employed at Amana Refrigeration in production for 25 years, retiring in 1983. As an adult Aunt Elaine was adopted into the Staecker family, and became our aunt not by blood but through love
