Shirley J. Unruh, 83, a resident of Heritage Nursing and Rehab, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010. At her request there will be no visitation and no services. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy (Dennis) French of Center Point, and Sharon (Bob) Baker of Cedar Rapids, six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a long time friend John Schmoldt.
Shirley was born June 4, 1927 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She retired from Armstrong’s Department Store where she was a waitress.

Luann Sue Slaymaker, 41, of 1146 Regent St NE, died Wednesday November 26, 2008 in the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House Of Mercy from breast cancer. Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at First Assembly of God by the Rev. Rick Gail. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral on Monday from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday after 9:00 a.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
Survivors include her husband Scott Slaymaker, two sons, Elijah Samuel Slaymaker and Aaron Josiah Slaymaker, a foster daughter, who was with them for a brief time. Luann's family was her greatest source of happiness surpassed only by her love for her Savior, Jesus Christ. She is also survived by her parents, Merton and Susie Borsheim of Hiawatha, her brother, Charles B. Borsheim of Springfield, Missouri and sister, Jone and husband David Poppe of Central City, her father and mother in law, Jerry and Reta Slaymaker of Guernsey, brothers-in-law, Jerry L. SLaymaker Jr. and wife Angie of Brooklyn, and Andrew P. Slaymaker of Guernsey.Luann was born December 10, 1966 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Merton and Susie Cannon Borsheim. She married
Scott Slaymaker on February 28, 1998 in Cedar Rapids. Luann was employed at Verizon and a member of First Assembly of God.
To say Luann was passionate about purple as “her” color, would be an understatement. She told everyone in the last month her funeral would be a purple celebration. For a time, Luann was a breast cancer survivor and she told everyone. Anything you can do in the future to support breast research would be something that would have made her happy. Luann herself participated in several events.

RoJean Arlene Spore, 67, of 2417 Deborah Drive SW, died at Mercy Medical Center, Monday, November 17, 2008, after a sudden illness. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. William Harnish. Private Burial. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 9a.m. Friday.
RoJean is survived by her husband, Myron; a daughter, Carolyn (Randall) Rubner of Newhall; four sons, Franklin Michalec of Cedar Rapids, Stephen (Tammy) Michalec of Middle Amana, Mark (Amy) Michalec and Lonnie Michalec, all of Cedar Rapids; mother, Velma Pelz of Blairsberg; sisters, Judi (Ron) Claude of Woolstock, and Betty Jo Mastin of Port St. Lucie, FL; brother, Donald (Deanne) Pelz of Ankeny; three sisters-in-law, Deanna B. Volsky, Francis Carney, and Paulette Hoover, all of Cedar Rapids; twelve grandchildren, Joshua, Desiree, Sheena, Destinee, Jordan, Blake, Erica, Benjamin, Alexa, Sam, Sarah, and Annie; and two great grandchildren, Jermy and Matthew.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wendell Pelz; brother, Raymond Pelz; and her father and mother-in-law, John and Mary Spore.
RoJean was born on December 10, 1940 in Webster City to Wendell and Velma Pelz. She married
Myron Spore on February 26, 1977 in Cedar Rapids. RoJean worked for Iowa Workforce Development for over 30 years, retiring in May, 2005. She had many hobbies which included photography, gardening, tanning, and shopping. She loved animals and the outdoors. RoJean’s greatest love was her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a best friend to many.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Eudora Elizabeth Seyfer

Eudora-Elizabeth Slater Seyfer, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on November 7, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Eudora is survived by her sons, Stephen Seyfer of Fish Creek, WI, and his wife, Suzanne; Michael Seyfer of Cedar Rapids; James Seyfer of Iowa City and his wife, Cindy; Gregory Seyfer of Cedar Rapids and his wife, Mary; and, Pete Seyfer of Cedar Rapids and his wife, Joy. There are twelve grandchildren: Michael Seyfer of Duluth, MN; Matthew Seyfer of Thiensville, WI; Anna Seyfer-Jimenez, of Sturgeon Bay, WI; Nathan, Andy, Abigail, Ben, Laura, and Sam Seyfer of Cedar Rapids; Sarah Seyfer of Houston, TX; and Katie and John Seyfer of Iowa City. There also are seven great-grandchildren, Sean, Drew, Christian, Gabrielle, Margo and Della Seyfer, and Isabella Seyfer-Jimenez.
Eudora was born January 13, 1925, in Takoma Park, MD. She was the daughter of Don and Mattie Howell Slater. She grew up in LaGrange, IL, and graduated with a BA degree from Beloit College in 1947 where she was editor of the Beloit Round Table. On December 25, 1946, she married
George A. Seyfer. In 1953 they made their home in Cedar Rapids where they raised their boys, George died in 2001.
Eudora was a freelance writer with numerous publications in national magazines. She co-authored two books, Gentle Yoga and How to be Happily Retired. She was employed in editorial capacities by the Chicago Sun Times, Cedar Rapids Community Schools, Laurance Press, and Igram Press. Her writing was widely published in general interest, home and travel magazines and in children’s and teen’s magazines. Early in her career Eudora was a contributing columnist for the Des Moines Register, and most recently was an essayist for the Christian Science Monitor. She also taught yoga and enjoyed the adventures of being an antique dealer. She was a member of First Congregational Church. Other memberships included the Delta Gamma sorority, Chapter KK of PEO, Iowa Scribes Calligraphy Guild, Abbe Creek Chapter of Questers, National League of American Penwomen, and the History Center. Mrs. Seyfer and her husband loved to travel, first taking their sons on many “field trips” throughout the United States, and after retirement traveling the world.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00- 7:00 pm on Saturday, November 15, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
The family respectfully requests no flowers. Memorial donations may be given to the Cedar Rapids Public Library for the purchase of books. Jeanne K. Zirbel, 72, of 2222 First Avenue NE, died Sunday, August 26, 2007, in her home after a short illness. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Grant Wood Chapel, 800 2nd Avenue SE, by the Rev. Dr. Herbert Isenberg of First Presbyterian Church.
Jeanne is survived by 2 sons, Stephen Patricia of Chicago, IL, and Jeffery Tracey and grandson Griffin of Des Moines, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Jeanne was born on October 3, 1934 in Des Moines, the daughter of Eugene and Evelyn Knox. After attending public schools and a brief career with AT& T, she moved to Cedar Rapids in 1956, where she resided for the rest of her life.
Jeanne was active in a number of civic and cultural organizations including Junior League of Cedar Rapids, serving a term as president, the Cedar Rapids Garden Club and the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, serving as a volunteer manager of the gift shop. She was also a past member of the Cedar Rapids Country Club.
Jeanne was an articulate, well-read, supportive person to her sons and many friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art.
Anna G. Suchomel

Anna G. Suchomel, 84, of Heritage Nursing and Rehab died there on Sunday Nov. 2, 2008 after an extended illness. Per Anna’s request there will be no visitation or public Service. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include nieces and nephews to include, Judith Shute of East Brookfield, MA and Carter Lloyd of Princeton, MA. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Anna was born on Jan. 3, 1925 in Hopedale, MA. the daughter of Walter and Julia Ackerman Ostromecki. She married
Thomas F. Suchomel in July of 1944. He died in 2001. Anna was a homemaker. She enjoyed crafts, cooking and will be greatly missed.

Robert J. Soukup, 75, of 493 Bonita, Hiawatha, died Saturday October 25, 2008 in Northbrook Manor following a short illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be today at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. and after 12:00 p.m. at the chapel on Wednesday.
Survivors include his wife, Judith, his children, Marie Blackburn (James) of Washington, EJ Soukup (Catherine) of Cedar Rapids, Cory Soukup (Darcy) of Phoenix, Arizona, Barry Soukup (Sheri) of Marion, Grayson Soukup (Tamara) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Sarine Soukup of Cedar Rapids, Kristian Soukup (Lisa) of Dublin, Ohio, friend, Deb Soukup of Phoenix, Arizona, a brother, Jerome Soukup of Moline, Illinois, a sister, Catherine Kaderabek of California and a sister in law, Bette Soukup of Hiawatha. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, a soon to be grandchild, 2 step grandchildren, a step great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, 4 brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Robert was born June 26, 1933 in Ridgeway, Iowa, the son of James and Marie Blackburn Soukup. Robert married
Victoria Burka and they later divorced. He then married
Judith Fay Eden on August 10, 1968 in Rock Island, Illinois. Robert was a sheet metal worker for 40 years. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and Sheet Metal Union # 263. He was a mason and member of the Mizpah and Kingston Masonic Lodges. He enjoyed NASCAR, working crosswords puzzles and playing solitaire. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice instead of flowers.
