Thomas J. Van Orsdol, 63, of Cedar Rapids died on Monday, July 20, 2009 at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Per Thomas’s wishes, his body has been cremated. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2009 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour before the service.
Thomas is survived by his sister Julie (Steve) Hamilton of Bettendorf, IA; nieces Sarah (Rob) Winsall of Racine, WI, Molly (Billy) Gilbert of Davenport, IA, Gretchen Hamilton of Minnetonka, MN; and special friends Debra Trenkamp of Cedar Rapids, and Terry Slickty of Cedar Rapids.
Preceding Thomas in death were his parents James and Bernice Van Orsdol.
Thomas James Van Orsdol was born November 30, 1945 in Cedar Rapids to James and Bernice (Mieras) Van Orsdol. He graduated in the class of 1963 from Cedar Rapids Washington High school. He also earned a degree in Forestry from Utah State University. Thomas was employed for 20 years with Farmstead of Cedar Rapids formally known as Wilson-Sinclair, Quality Chef of Cedar Rapids, and most recently International Ingredients of Cedar Rapids retiring in April of 2008. Thomas enjoyed everything about the outdoors and his hobbies included hunting, fishing and gardening.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
Robert Lee Simmons
Born in Downing, MO on February 18, 1933
Departed on October 17, 2008. Resided in Marion, Iowa.

Robert Lee Simmons, 75, of 2285 Hillview Dr., Marion, died Friday, October 17, 2008, in his home following a short illness. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marion with Rev. Rodney Allers officiating. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Marcella, four daughters Norma (Gary) Ford, and Lyla Richards, and Marlys (Bob) Herring all of Marion, and Aletha (Lyle) Fox of Toddville, and two sons John (Bev) O’Donnell and Bill (Tracie) Simmons all of Cedar Rapids, a brother Warren(Barb) Simmons of Ft. Myers, Florida, and sister Juanita (Dean) Yearns of Queen City, Missouri, eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Robert was born February 18, 1933 in Downing, Missouri to George and Daisy Mae Faris Simmons. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He married
Marcella Marvin on March 24, 1962 in Downing, Missouri. He worked in the bacon department at Wilson’s for many years retiring in 1988, he also was a maintenance man for the Cedar Rapids Community Schools at Franklin Middle School. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing and family activities.

David Siechert 82, of 1000 Cheyenne Rd NW, died Tuesday, October 14, 2008, in the Dennis and Donna Hospice House of Mercy following a long illness. Services with military honors will be held at 11 AM Friday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Brenda Peconge of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church and Chaplain Joseph Kane of Hospice of Mercy will officiate. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday and at the chapel after 10 AM on Friday.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 51 years Eileen, a son Scott, three daughters, Lori Richardson, Valerie Siechert, and Kara Siechert, and brother Robert Siechert and wife Marilyn, three grandchildren, Ryan Richardson and wife Emily, Adam Richardson, and Hunter Richardson Roff, and two great-grandchildren, Eddie and Arabella Richardson, and his two pet dogs Sami and Lucky, all of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Helen Schultz Siechert and two infant brothers.
David was born April 16, 1926 in Cedar Rapids. He married
Eileen Murphy on December 4, 1957 in Cedar Rapids. He served in the US Navy during WW II. He was employed by the US Post Office for 42 years retiring as a Supervisor, and also was employed by Brinks Armored Services. He was a member Hanford American Legion Post No 5.

Mildred A Smith

Mildred “Milly” A. Smith, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died October 8, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a short illness. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 13, 2008 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Private family interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her children Sherry K. Cornish and husband Richard of Marion, Rex A. Smith, Jr. and wife Ellen of Scotch Grove, and Stevan S. Smith and wife Patti of Johnston; grandchildren Julie Kuhlers and husband Kraig of Urbandale, Cathy Passmore and husband Dave of Marion, Scott Cornish and wife Emily of North Liberty, Carrie Tamlyn and husband Tom of West Fargo, ND, Ted Smith of Nagoya, Japan, Casey Smith of Urbandale, and Melanie Smith of Chicago, IL. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren Jackson, Davis, Hayden, Luke, Kate, and Ella; as well as nieces and nephews.
Milly was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rex, Sr., and sister Faye Kemp.
Mildred Arlene Smith was born July 13, 1922 in Annawan, IL the daughter of Ralph and Lillian Johnson. She was a 1940 graduate of Franklin High School. She was united in marriage to Rex A. Smith, Sr. on March 6, 1942 in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death on November 27, 1985. She was employed at LaPlante Choate Manufacturing as a switchboard operator. In November 1964 she joined her husband in business at Rexco Equipment Inc., serving as Secretary, Treasurer, and co-owner. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, the Cedar Rapids Country Club, and PEO Chapter GM. She volunteered for several years at St. Luke’s Cerebral Palsy Center, Kenwood School, and Oak Ridge School. She was very active in both volunteering and church related activities. She enjoyed golfing, line dancing, and traveling. Above all the greatest joy in her life was her time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Howard F. Tisher, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Winslow House in Marion. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, 1221 First Ave SW, where visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7 P.m. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. The Rev. David Grandon will officiate.
Survivors include his children, Dixie (Dave) McLaud and John (Karla) Tisher, and RoxAnn Tisher, step-daughter, Mary Ann (David) Hughes all of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Isla Evers of Aurora, Illinois, grandchildren; David Hughes Jr., Angela Montialius, Michael Hughes, all of Cedar Rapids, Amy McLaud-Clemons of Marion, Jennifer Tisher, Kyle Tisher, both of Cedar Rapids and Aaron Baker of Springville, great grandchildren, Cameron, Austin, Andrew, Chloe, Jagger and Jonah, his nieces and nephews, William Mac Allister, Shari, Jon, Linda and Steven Singlestad. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Hazel, his sisters, Grace Singlestad and Jean Brown and his brothers. John and Kenneth Tisher.
Howard was born November 21, 1923 in Cedar Rapids to Charles and Pearl Tisher. He married
Hazel L. Miller there on July 10, 1948. She died in 1987. He was an Army veteran of WWII. Howard was employed by Furley Trucking for many years and enjoyed seeing and traveling through the different states. He enjoyed the Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and Nascar. His favorite was spending time with family and watching his friends play Euchre.

Jacoby James Sickels, three month old infant son of Joshua and Sarah Sickels, of 6408 Palmetto Circle S.W. died Tuesday September 30, 2008 in St. Luke’s Hospital. Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the First Church of The Open Bible by the Rev. Dan Sanford. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
In addition to his parents, Jacoby is survived by a brother, Jaxon David Sickels, a sister, Jersey Rae Sickels, his grandparents, Dave and Angela Sickels of Solon and Jim and Janice Hinschberger of Solon. Also surviving are aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jacoby was a precious gift from God sent to enrich our lives on July 6, 2008.
A memorial fund has been established.
