Julie P. Swain, 54, 3801 Yellow Pine Court NE died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. A time for sharing of memories will be Monday from 4PM to 6PM at Oakland Church of the Nazarene with a Celebration of Life at 6:00 PM. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Surviving in addition to her husband Patrick are a son, Robert Gager Brooke of Marion; a daughter, Stacy Milota Jim of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Ryan Gager, and Garrett and Gracie Milota; a brother, Bill Riffey Kay of Cedar Rapids; her in-laws, Madeline Trpkosh Dell of Cedar Rapids; her beloved dog, Belle; and several dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother John Riffey; and her step-father, Earl Dulin.
Julie P. Riffey was born September 16, 1953 at the Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton, Iowa the daughter of William and Imogene Proctor Riffey. She married
Patrick D. Swain on June 29, 2007 at the Oakland Church of the Nazarene in Cedar Rapids. She worked for Rockwell Collins in shipping and receiving for 36 years. Julie was a member of Oakland Church of the Nazarene. Julie's personal hero was her mother. She liked to read, spend time with her family and her grandchildren, she enjoyed traveling and motorcycle rides.

Charles C. 'Chuck' Yanda, 38, of 3100 E. Ave NE, died peacefully Sunday, November 16, 2003, in St. Luke's Hospital after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. A celebration of Chuck's life will be held at 10 AM Thursday in First Assembly of God Church. Pastor Rick Gail will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday and at the church after 9:30 AM on Thursday.
Survivors include his wife Elaine, son Charles II, daughter Jenna, father Clifford and wife Michelle, sister Sheri Scott Grabanski, brother Scott and his friend Jeff Hoge, grandma Leota Yanda, father and mother-in-law Marvin and Darlene Ozburn, brother in-law Kurt Ozburn, nieces Tasia and Tiffany Grabanski, nephew James Grabanski, great-nephew Joseph Grabanski, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends and his dog Kasey.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Jane Yanda, grandfather Leo Yanda, grandparents Andy and Goldie Duros, a cousin Donnie Yanda II, and Uncle Don Yanda.
Charles was born March 6, 1965, in Cedar Rapids to Cliff and Mary Yanda. He married
Elaine Ozburn on September 24, 1988 in Cedar Rapids. He owned and operated Pool Guys.
Chuck was a loving father, husband, son, brother, grandson, and friend. Nothing meant more to him than Elaine, Chuck, and Jenna. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed working around the house and in his yard. He was always there when you needed him ready to lend a helping hand. Though your life on this earth was not long, it was a beautiful one, God has greater plans for you and until we meet again Chuck, we all love you.

Lorna Lynne Shoemaker, 62, of 2505 First Ave, Marion, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, in Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. Services at 11 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Friday and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Saturday.
Survivors include her daughter Bridget Garretson and husband Kevin and her son Shane Shoemaker and wife Judy all of Cedar Rapids, two brothers Jeff Bates and wife Ginny of North Carolina, and Jody Bates of Cedar Rapids, a sister in law Ann Bates of Cedar Rapids, eight grandchildren, Danielle, Jason, Misty, Tiffany, Stormy, Nevada, Dewy, and Casey, a great grandson Lucas, several nieces and nephews, and her pet dogs Maggie and Roco. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband.
Lorna was born February 8, 1946 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Robert and Zeralda Miller Bates. She married
Craig L. Shoemaker on December 7, 1963, in Ottumwa. She was the kitchen manager at Bickford Cottage in Marion, and had also worked at Cocktails and the Marion HyVee.
Lorna enjoyed working with people, she was a wonderful cook and enjoyed scrap booking. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Special thanks to the dialysis staff at Mercy Medical Center for their tender care of Lorna.

Donald Wayne Yarrington

Donald Wayne Yarrington, 68, of 5005 Broadview Drive SE, died at home on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 due to complications of leukemia. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Robin Kash of First Presbyterian Church. Burial: West View cemetery, La Porte City. Survivors include his wife Sandra; a daughter, Suzanne and husband Lt. Col. Michael Coleman and their children, Sarah Beth and Marcus, all of Manassas, VA; a brother Marvin and JoAnn Yarrington of La Porte City; a sister Florene and Frank Hiffernan of Waterloo; his mother-in-law, Miriam Lamb of Cedar Rapids; a brother-in-law, Robert and Katherine Lamb of Davenport; and a niece Sarah Lamb.
Don was born September 4, 1936 in Jessup to Albert and Mabel Bookmeier Yarrington. He attended the Unversity of Iowa where he sang with the University Choir. He married
Sandra K. Lamb in La Porte City on February 15, 1958. Don was a K Mart Department Store manager and also served as a District Manager for a total of 42 years, and continued in management for 2 years with Wal Mart and 3 years with Kohls.
Don was an Army veteran, and a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was an avid Hawkeye sports fan, and a fan of the Green Bay Packers. He loved golfing, boating, and playing bridge, but his #1 interest was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Ann A. Zindrick

Ann A. Zindrick 92, of 86½ 16th Ave SW, died Sunday, January 4, 2009 in her home. Family services and inurnment will be held at a later date. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include four sons Joseph (Madeline) Walworth, Wisconsin, Raymond J. of Prentice, Wisconsin, Micheal ( Tammi) of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, and Allen “Ali” of Cedar Rapids, a daughter Debra (Bret) Anson of Cedar Rapids, a sister Pauline Parkinson of New Jersey, and very special friend Hugh J. Lamont II. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ann was born May 6, 1916 in Black River Falls, Wisconsin to Antone and Antoinette Koran. She married
Raymond J. Zindrick on November 1, 1944. Dad passed away on September 16th, 1999.
Dad and Mom lived and worked in Chicago until they bought Grandpa's farm and farmed until 1959, when they bought the Disco Store in Wisconsin, which they ran until their retirement. When Dad passed, Mom moved in with her son Ali. She loved to go to casinos and go out for Chinese.
Mom has joined her husband Ray, her parents, and 13 brothers and sisters in heaven along with many friends.
A memorial fund has been established in care of Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Robert "Bob" H. Scammell, 72, of Marion, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Survivors include his wife Grace; daughter Julia Moya and husband Frank of Cleburn, TX; step children Jesse DeLuna and wife Selene of Galveston, TX, Melissa Hazelwood of Austin, TX, Heather DeLuna and friend Brian Czernik both of Iowa City, and Vanessa Matis and husband Sarge of Marion; grandchildren Elizabeth, Kari, and Alexandria Moya; great granddaughter Realynn Moya; step grandchildren Jaquline, Eli, and Lucy DeLuna, and Zoey Matis; and mother and father-in-law Everette W. Evans and Gladys M. Stout Evans of Coralville.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Mary Scammell, his first wife Virginia Lee Scammell, and grandson Quinten Matis.
Robert Harrison Scammell was born June 14, 1935 in Washington, D.C., the beloved son of Robert E. and Mary L. Harrison Scammell. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1975. Upon his honorable discharge he had achieved the rank of E-7 Chief. During his military career he was deployed to serve in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. His first wife Virginia preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Grace C. DeLuna on August 4, 1990 in Galveston, TX. He was a member of Oakland Church of the Nazarene, The Scottish Rite, The Order of the Knights Templar, Marion VFW, Disabled American Veterans, Promise Keepers, and the El Mina Shrine Club. Throughout his time as a Shriner he often would drive a bus for the Shriner's Hospitals in Galveston. In his church outreach he taught bible quizzing, and helped mentor a state champion. During his time in Galveston he volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital for numerous hours. Bob enjoyed fishing, camping, all the outdoors had to offer, reading, and cooking on his barbecue grill. Above all Bob's greatest love in life was his family. He will be forever remembered, and greatly missed by those left to mourn his passing.
