Jeffrey A. Seber. 52, of Marion died Saturday February 14, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center after a two year battle with cancer. Funeral Mass: 11:00 AM on Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Rev. John Gossman will officiate. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Monday where there will be a vigil service at 7:00 PM and at the Church after 10:00 AM on Tuesday.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy, a daughter RanDee (Tom) Hupp of Cedar Rapids, two sons, Robert and his fiancé Lisa of Waterloo and Ryan (Jennifer) of Normal, Illinois, his mother Elaine, two brothers, Mark and Chris (Michelle) all of Cedar Rapids, three sisters, Jan (Matt) Dostal, Ann (Rob) Allee and Mary Smith all of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Madison and Carter Seber, numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs, Sammy and PeeWee. He was preceded in death by his father.

Jeff was born on Aug. 19, 1956 in Cedar Rapids, the son of John and Elaine Petrusch Seber. He graduated in1974 from Jefferson High School where he lettered in cross country and was a member of the Nation Honor Society. Jeff married Tamera S. Sobolik on Aug. 12, 1994 in Marion. He was the I.T. Manager at Sealed Air Cryovac for 33 years and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Jeff loved traveling and spending time with family and friends. He always put others before himself. Jeff loved to golf and finally got his own “Hawkeye” golf cart autographed by Kirk Ferentz and Norm Parker. He was an avid Kurt Warner fan and loved to follow his career. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Mercy Hospice in Jeff’s name.

Richard Alan Schade
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on July 17, 1922
Departed on February 15, 2009. Resided in Hiawatha, Iowa.

Richard Alan Schade, 86, a resident at Hiawatha Care Center went to be with his Lord on Sunday February 15, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Friday. Burial: Linwood cemetery. A luncheon will be at the church following the service.

Born July 17, 1922 to Carl and Elizabeth Schade, Richard was raised in the Cedar Rapids area, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1940. Richard served 3 years in the United States Navy, in the Medical Corp during World War II. Plus an additional 18 months in the United States Marine Corp.

Richard married Ardis Ford on April 17, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. They had one son, David. He passed away in July of 1981, at the age of 33. Ardis passed on April 21, 2003 after 55 years of marriage. Richard worked for Mercy Medical Center for 39 years, first as an orderly and then as an Inhalation Therapist until his retirement in 1984. Richard’s wife, son, mother, father, 2 brothers, a sister preceded him in death.

Richard is survived by his grandchildren, Dennis Schade of California, Kristine (Arron) McCannon, Karen, Mellisa and Ashley Schade, Tytan and Riley, daughter-in-law, Diane Schade all of Cedar Rapids, and granddaughter-in-law, Claudia Schade of California, great grandchildren, Austin and Cole. Also surviving are 4 nieces and 3 nephews, sisters-in-law, Daylene Ford, and special friends Zip and Ed.

Richard loved little children and volunteered many hours at Harrison School helping the children learn, earning him many rewards and friendships along the way. Richard was a loving, kind and gentle man who was loved by all who knew him. He will truly be missed.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Lutheran Church, Miracles in Motion, Make A Wish Foundation or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Richard’s Name.

Nadine A. Schultz
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on June 24, 1938

Nadine A. Schultz, 70, of 5101 Chestnut Ridge Rd. NE died Monday February 16, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a long illness. Services at 12:30 PM on Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha. Rev. Daniel Krueger will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Saturday. A luncheon will be served at the church following the services.

Survivors include two sons, Randy (Ruth) of Overland Park, Kansas, Bob (Sheryl) of Simsbury, Connecticut, and a step-son, Mark (Shirley) of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Andrew, Lauren, Tyler, Kristen and Alex Schultz, Bridget (Matt) Rindernecht, and Jill Schultz, one great grandchild, Jackson Rindernecht, a sister-in-law, Betty (Kent) Hill and a brother-in-law, Milo (Judy) Schultz, two very good friends, Jan Elm of Cedar Rapids and Richard Krob of Lisbon. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Nadine was born on June 24, 1938 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Walter and Hilda Schminke Maurer. She married Larry D. Schultz on Sept. 20, 1957 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1999. Nadine worked at Case Implement, Hapgood and Knudtson Ins., St Lukes Low Vision Clinic and most recently at Bill Brothers. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in the LWML, alter guild, funeral coordinator, kitchen committee as well as being a member of the St. Lukes Auxiliary. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be given to Zion Lutheran Church.

James Kenneth Thornton
Born in Kansas City, MO on November 5, 1944
Departed on August 14, 2012. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

James K. Thornton, 67, of Cedar Rapids, passed away due to Huntington’s disease on August 14, 2012 at the Promise House in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. Rev. Craig Peters will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Burial will take place at Concord cemetery near Centerville.

He was born on November 5, 1944 in Kansas City, MO to James Abner and Norma Elaine (Peck) Thornton. He went to school in Independence, Kansas and later graduated from Kansas University and received a Masters in Engineering. He married Sharline Swearingen on June 10, 1967 in Independence, MO, they were later divorced in November of 1980. From this union they had two children, James and Ken Thornton both currently of Cedar Rapids. He served his country honorably as a Private First Class in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Fort Bliss. He worked for Rockwell Collins as an Engineer for 29 years and later went to HWH Corporation in Moscow, Iowa where he retired. On June 9, 1984 he married Joyce C. Rinehart in Cedar Rapids. From this marriage he gained his step-chidren, BaBette Dolan of Cedar Rapids, Belinda Eglinger of Cummings, GA, Byron (Josie) Pettibone of Yucaipa, CA and Erich (Carrie) Aschenbrenner of Cedar Rapids; step-grandchildren, Adam, Austin, Ashley and Alexandrea Dolan, Ben and Nick Eglinger, Shannon, Shawnee and Abigail Pettibone; and Sean and Alec Ashenbrenner; and two step-great grandchildren. He is also survived his brother Bill Thornton and sister Susan.

Jim enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren, deer hunting in Appanoose County, researching his family history and collecting stamps and coins. He will forever be remembered for being a kind and generous man. He will be greatly missed and truly loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-son Edward James Pettibone.

Memorials in Jim’s honor may be directed to the Promise House or to the Huntington’s disease Society of American Center of Excellence at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Frances J. Steele

Frances J. Steele, 91, of Living Center East died there on Tuesday Feb. 24, 2009 after a long illness. Services at 11 AM on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 10:30 AM on Saturday. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet Joice of Lisbon and two sons, Wesley (Kim) of Boise, Idaho and Kenneth (Judi) of Pensacola, Florida. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Robb, Matthew, Jeffrey, Stephanie, Sarah and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Dorothy Neel.

Frances was born on Dec. 14, 1917 in Montezuma, the daughter of Elmer and Flora McGuinn Lindstrom. She married Wesley W. Steele on July 4, 1936 in Lancaster, Missouri. He died in 1973. Frances was the personnel manager at Sears for 24 years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Sears Golden Agers, Indian Creek Nature Center, and Eastview Church of Christ. Frances enjoyed traveling, gardening, camping, fishing and especially time spent with her family.

Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in Frances’ Name.

Loretta Mae Snitker
Born in Waukon, Iowa on March 10, 1930
Departed on March 30, 2009. Resided in Center Point, Iowa.

Loretta Mae Snitker, 79, of 302 Water Street, Center Point, died Monday March 30, 2009 in Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Ben Snitker, her children, Connie (Bob) Short of Cedar Rapids, Carl Snitker of Cedar Rapids, Douglas (Sue)Snitker of Center Point, Jerry (Connie) Snitker of Cedar Rapids, Rodney (Christy) Snitker of Cedar Rapids, Michelle ( Brad) Erger of Brandon, Iowa, and Kim ( Brook) Peterson of Swisher., a sister, Mary Hermanson of Waukon, a brother, Bill (Jan) O’Hare of Cedar Rapids, 19 grandchildren, Tina, Curt, Matt, Jeff, Reece, Skylar, Jared, Jordan, Caden, Ryan, Riley, Reid, Ross, Lehia, Lindsey, Austin, Kiley, Taylor and Trey, and 3 great grandchildren, Blake, Siara and Danny.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Curtis Snitker, and a brother in law, Dick Hermanson.

Loretta was born March 10, 1930 in Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of Jerry and Maude Marsden O’Hare. She married Ben Alvin Snitker on January 23, 1948 in Waukon. She enjoyed camping, fishing, Black Hawk Park on the Mississippi and their cabin on the Wapsipinicon. Loretta loved to visit with people. Her family was very important to her and she often would call them her little peeps. Her children would like to thank Dad for the love and care he gave Mom during her illness.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.
