Floyd C. “Tony” Veatch, 82, of the Winslow House Care Center, died there on Thursday March 26, 2009 after a short illness. Services at 10:30 AM on Monday at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. Rev. Dennis Johnson and Rev. Kevin Jones will officiate. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday. The casket will be closed on Monday. Survivors include his wife, Frances, two daughters, Nancy Galbraith of Van Horne, Carol (Tim) Stamp of Marion and a son, Kevin of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Suzanne and Jonathan Galbraith, William and Dalton Veatch, Katie and Trisha Hagensick and Molly and Jack Stamp. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Tony was born on Dec. 14, 1926 in Braymer, Missouri, the son of Frank and Hallie Ewing Veatch. He married Frances M. Kloster on November 27, 1953 in Des Moines. Tony was an electrician for Munson Electric for 30 years retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, IBEW No. 405, SAE Fraternity at Kansas University, a life time member of the Masons in Kansas, and was an assistant Scout Master of Troop 89.. He enjoyed fishing, golf and especially time spent with his friends and beloved family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be given to St. Lukes Hospice.

Sandra Irene Stull
Born in Cedar Rapids on April 26, 1954
Departed on July 1, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Sandra I. Stull, 55, of Cedar Rapids, passed on following a lengthy illness. Memorial services will take place 1:00 PM, Monday, July 6, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Carroll Brown will officiate. Friends may call from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Sunday, July 5, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.

Survivors include her children Carolynn, Dean, and Crystal all of Cedar Rapids, and Joe and wife Annie of Ely. She is also survived by her 7 beloved grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald, her parents, and brother Michael Robinson.

Sandra was born April 26, 1954 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of Andrew and Cleo (Meier) Robinson. She was a graduate of Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School. She was united in marriage to Gerald D. Stull in September of 1974 in Missouri, he preceded her in death on February 10, 2009. She enjoyed camping and outdoor activities, reading, watching soap operas, and cooking. Above all she enjoyed the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established in Sandra’s honor.

Mary Louise Zamastil
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on December 15, 1919

Mary Louise Zamastil, 88, a resident of Northbrook Manor died Friday March 21, 2008 in the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a brief illness. Funeral mass: 10:30 a.m Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church by the Rev. John Gossman. Visitation will be Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. where a Rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m. Inurnment: Private.
Survivors include her children: Kathy Zamastil of Cedar Rapids, Jean Frank Navratil of University Heights, Ohio, Janet Gene Maloney of Marion, and Steve Mary Zamastil of Davis Junction, Illinois, her grandchildren, Lisa Derek Navracruz, F. Joseph Debra Navratil, Michael Navratil, Tina Sean Healy, Brian Chris Maloney, Andrew Mary Beth Maloney, Kim Zamastil, Christine Zamastil and Charles Zamastil, 11 great grandchildren and a sister, Patricia John Furman of Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Her husband Donald R. Zamastil and parents preceded her in death.
Mary was born December 15, 1919 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Robert and Anne Gilchrist. She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and attended Mount Mercy College. On April 6, 1942 she married Donald R. Zamastil at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She was a bookkeeper for Lattner Manufacturing. She was a member of St. Anthony Study Group and St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She was an avid golfer and a former city amateur champ. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Charles J. Thillen, 85, of Cedar Rapids died Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital.

A Memorial Graveside will be held at 11:30 A.M. Thursday April 29, 2010 at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery in the Resthaven Section. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charlie is survived by his sisters Bernice Holmes and Dolores Wiedersberg both of Cedar Rapids and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law.

Charles John Thillen was born January 21, 1925 in Cedar Rapids the son of Lawrence and Lillian Esther (Elsbury) Thillen. He followed his father into working for the Rock Island Railroad retiring after 35 years of service.

Hazel Katherine Swedberg
Born in Kesley, Iowa on November 26, 1918
Departed on July 4, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Hazel K. Swedberg, 90, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Nora Springs and Mason City, died at St. Luke’s Hospital, Saturday, July 4, 2009. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Hazel is survived by children, Carol (Charles) Meyer of Highland Park, IL, Carl (Bobbie) Swedberg of Marion, Jane (Keith) Bartley of Abilene, KS, and Joe (Amy) Swedberg of Austin, MN.; grandchildren, Rachel Meyer, Sarah and Brian Swedberg, Paul, Ross, and Eric Bartley, Brody (Lydia) Swedberg, Lindy (Keith) Kavanaugh; and great granddaughter, Hazel Swedberg. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Vern Miller; a sister, Helen Miller; and daughter, Judith Suzanne Swedberg.

Hazel was born on November 26, 1918 in Kesley, Iowa to Oscar and Nellie Miller. She was married to Glen Swedberg on February 18, 1938 in Nora Springs, Iowa. They were later divorced. Hazel was employed by AC Neilson Company for 15 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Rebekkah Lodge, and various other clubs.

Hazel was active at the Meadows Apartments and participated in bingo, and Book Club. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was delighted to have her first great granddaughter named after her.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society or the Arthritis Foundation.

Dennis L. “Denny” St. Germain, 61, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, as a result of an automobile accident. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Jay Jentink. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Arrangements are entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Denny is survived by his wife of 37 years, Pat; children, Matt of Kirksville, MO and Dana of Ft. Worth, TX; sister, Cheryl (Rich) St. Germain – Van Zile of Toddville; nephew and niece, Ben and Andress Van Zile; mother and father-in-law, Jim and Minnie Clar of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Bob (Carla) Clar of Ryan; sister-in-law, Jo Ann (Les) Lang of Monona; cousin, Mark (Hailee) Sandberg of Rowley; and many nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Denny was born on July 17, 1947, in Cedar Rapids to Cecil and Rita St. Germain. He was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church on May 19, 1963, and was a member there for 46 years. Denny graduated from Jefferson High School in 1965 and set track records which he still holds today. He attended Iowa State from 1965 to 1966 and earned an Associates degree from Marshalltown Community College. He went on to earn a BS degree in Business Administration and Physical Education from Upper Iowa in 1971. He married Patricia Clar on July 24, 1971, in Cedar Rapids. Denny worked for CRST and LeFebure before starting his own business, PACE Supply in Fairfax.

Denny was a loving husband, father, and brother. He was very active in his children’s lives; coaching and following their teams, from Little League, college, and beyond. He attended many of his nieces and nephews activities.

Denny was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Iowa Golf Course Superintendants, Iowa Landscape and Nursery Association, Iowa Asphalt Pavers’ Association, Iowa Professional Lawn Care Association, and a life member of the Iowa High School Boys’ and Girls’ Athletic Officials Association.

Mary Aebi Spurrier
Born in Sand Springs, Iowa on August 5, 1908
Departed on July 7, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Mary A. Spurrier, 100, a resident of Ridgeview Assisted Living passed away July 7, 2009 following a brief illness. Friends may call at First Congregational Church on Saturday, July 11th at 10:00 AM. A Celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM by the Rev. David Hohmann followed by burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.

Mary Aebi Spurrier was born on August 5, 1908 on the family farm near Sand Springs, Iowa, the ninth of eleven children of Rudolph and Rosa Aebi-Steffen, an immigrant family who came from Bern, Switzerland in 1906. When the family moved to Monticello, IA she often helped at the Aebi Sweet Shop. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1927 and attended the alumni reunion in 2007 as the eldest graduate present. Upon moving to Cedar Rapids, she attended the Cedar Rapids Business College in 1928.

During her secretarial career she worked at the T.M. Sinclair Company, National Oats Co., before becoming secretary at various brokerage firms. She retired from the Francis I. du Pont Co. in 1971. On August 31, 1933 Mary married Harold K. Spurrier at First Christian Church where they sang in the choir for forty years. Harold passed away in 2001 shortly before their 68th wedding anniversary. Upon retirement they worked as a team for fourteen years escorting tours in the U.S.A. and abroad for Travel and Transport. She was a member of the Cedar Rapids Camera Club, St. Luke’s Hospital Auxillary and First Congregational Church.

Aunt Mary is survived by seven nieces and nephews, Linda Smith, Cedar Rapids, Helen Homer, Cross Lanes, WV, Colleen Savino, Ft. Meyers, FL, Deborah Forgione, McComb, OK, Warren Olson, Denison, IA, William Barry, Fairchild, WI and Robert Barry of Solon, IA and numerous great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Margaritha, Elizabeth, Hanna, Gertrude, Hedwig, and Rose and her brothers, Rudolph Jr., Hans, Ernest and Elmer.

Aunt Mary will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. Memorials may be made in her name to First Congregational Church, Camp Courageous of Iowa or St. Luke’s Hospice. The family would like to thank the staff at Ridge View Assisted Living, St. Luke’s Hospice and several friends for the loving care she was given at the end of her long life.
