Helen M. Steitz, 91, of 3312 Emerson Dr. NE, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday in Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Jonathon Offt will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be at the church after 9 AM Saturday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her children, Charles (Julia) Steitz, Ron (Debbie) Steitz, Pamella (Bill) Delaney, Wanda (Bill) Lunn, all of Cedar Rapids, Dennis (Amy) Steitz of Lancaster, California, Jerry (Nancy) Sonkens of Salt Lake City, Utah, Richard Clar of Delhi, Iowa, and Shirley Funte of Monticello, Iowa, two brothers Roland Clar of Marshalltown, Iowa, and James (Minnie) Clar of Cedar Rapids, twenty two grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell, a son Marlyn, seven brothers, one sister, and three grandchildren.
Helen was born February 21, 1918, rural Green Mountain, Iowa, to Henry and Agnes Clar. She married
Russell Steitz on February 9, 1941, in Marshalltown, Iowa. He died October 10, 1991. She was a homemaker and nurses aid. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 58 years. She played many musical instruments by ear. She enjoyed crocheting, taking pictures, traveling, and especially caring for her family.

Richard Lee Sherman
Born in Iowa City, IA on January 17, 1935
Departed on January 4, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Richard L. Sherman, 74, a resident of Heritage Nursing & Rehab, died there Monday January 4, 2010. Memorial service: 2:00 p.m. Monday January 11, 2010 at Seventh Day-Adventist Church, 4401 42nd St NE, where friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery at a later date. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife Anne, his children, his stepchildren, Dana Morgan, Dan Morgan and Mac Kenzie Morgan, a step great granddaughter, Brittany Morgan-Dusil all of Cedar Rapids, a half sister, Florence Stingley of Savanna, Illinois and his beloved pets, Cloie and Sophie.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Richard was born March 17, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Charles and Dorothy Butters Sherman. He married
Anne Morgan on June 19, 1988 in Cedar Rapids. Richard worked in manufacturing and was a member of Seventh Day-Adventist Church. He enjoyed reading his bible and spreading the word of God. Richard also loved spending time with his granddaughter and watching sci-fi. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Heritage Nursing & Rehab and St. Luke’s Hospice. A special thanks to St. Luke’s Hospice Chaplin, Jeremy Hudson.

Mary Lou Ellen Smith

Mary Lou Smith, 69, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, January 11, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids surrounded by her loving family after a 12 year battle with Scleroderma. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, January 15, 2009 at the Cedar Hills Community Church. The service will be conducted by Pastor Kent Landhuis. Visitation will begin after 10:00 AM on Friday at the church. Private inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.
Surviving are her husband Jerry Smith of Cedar Rapids; her dog Sadie; two children Doug Smith of Cedar Rapids, and Kathy (Robert) Ebeling of Marion; and grandchildren Megan, Spencer, and Tanner Smith, and Michael Ebeling. Also surviving are her sister Nancy (Dennis) Brasel of Muskogee, OK and brother Richard (Lois) Belvel of Biloxi, MS.
She was preceded in death by her son Jeffery Smith and her parents Norma and Bill Belvel.
Mary Lou was born May 23, 1940 in Ottumwa, where she was raised. She was united in marriage to Jerry Smith on April 4, 1958 in Lancaster, MO. She and her husband moved to Cedar Rapids in 2001 to be near their two children and their families. Mary Lou enjoyed volunteering at Milestones and various nursing homes, playing bridge, mah jongg, golfing with friends, and being surrounded by her family.
Mary Lou was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Scleroderma Foundation or to Cedar Hills Community Church in Mary Lou’s honor.
The family extends their appreciation to all of the caring doctors and nurses at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and St. Luke’s Hospital for their tender care and guidance in this time of transition.

Dorothy E. “Dodi” Stewart, 78, of 733 71st Street NE died Saturday January 16, 2010 at St. Lukes Hospital. Services at 1:00 PM on Friday at First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Ted Miller will officiate. Private family burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at First Presbyterian Church on Thursday from 5 to 8 PM and on Friday after Noon. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Charles, one daughter, Susan (Ken) Baker of Cedar Rapids; a son, David, fiancé, Alissa Bowman of Des Moines; one sister, Priscilla Johnson Hopp of Evanston, Illinois and one brother, Roger (Charlotte) Johnson of Yonkers, New York. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Benjamin and Emily Baker. She was preceded in death by one brother, Romaine Johnson.
Dodi was born on June 24, 1931 in Rockford, Illinois, the daughter of David and Elsie Lundin Johnson. She attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. She married
Charles “Chuck” Stewart on June 28, 1958 in Rockford, Illinois. Dodi taught elementary school for several years and later was a child care provider as well as being a homemaker. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and PEO Chapter GM. Dodi was very caring, always the first to remember birthdays, and anniversaries by sending cards and letters to both friends and family. She loved children and had a warm and engaging smile that would brighten anyone’s day. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marjorie L. Warren

Marjorie L. Warren, 83, of Evergreen Estates, formerly a 60 year resident of Des Moines died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Service: 10:00 A.M. Monday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Burial: 3:30 P.M. Monday at Glendale cemetery in Des Moines. Friends may call from 2 to 4 P.M. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home with a Vigil Service at 3:00 P.M. The Rev. Neil Manternach will officiate.
Survivors include her daughter, Marla Valliere of Cedar Rapids; three granddaughters, Nicole Valliere of Cedar Rapids, Michele Valliere of Davenport, and Mary Valliere of Scottsdale, AZ; a sister, Betty Southwick of Pueblo, CO; several nieces and nephews including one special nephew, William Bond.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, Gene Barrus, Charles Barrus, Jr., and Dale Barrus; and four sisters, Mary Ann Bond, Dorothy Allgeyer, Edna O'Farrell, and Ruth Heimke.
Marjorie was born March 26, 1921 in Winterset the daughter of Charles Sr. and Hazel Reese Barrus. She married
Thomas F. Warren on May 29, 1948 in Des Moines. He passed away on November 29, 1973. Marjorie worked in the dietary department at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines from 1973 to 1986. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and the Retiree's Luncheon for Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Marjorie's joy in her life was her three granddaughters. She had a great love of family, friends, animals, and she loved the outdoors.
Memorials may be made to Evergreen Estates or to the Dialysis Department at Mercy Medical Center.

Evelyn A. Taylor, 91 of the Meth-Wick Community died there on Friday February 22, 2013 from complications of Alzheimer’s. Private family services at 1:00 PM on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Reid of Cedar Rapids, two sons, Larry (Arleen) Sievertsen of Crystal Lake, Illinois and Allen (Pam) Sievertsen of Walla Walla, Washington. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Dorothy, a son-in-law John Reid, grandson David Reid and a step-son Randy Taylor.
Evelyn was born February 1, 1922 in Clarence the daughter of Willard and Amelia Heneke Bradley. She married
Carl Sievertsen and later divorced. She married
Marvin W. “Mike” Taylor on February 15, 1956 in Davenport. He died in 2004.
Evelyn worked at Killian’s Dept. Store for several years and later became a fulltime homemaker. She was a member of the Elks Club, A.B.W.A., and several local golf leagues. Evelyn enjoyed playing bridge, golf and especially the time she spent with her beloved family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
