Victoria “Vickie” E. Sedlacek, 84, of Cottage Grove Place, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Congregational Church, by the Rev. Bob David. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
Surviving, besides her husband, Dr. Robert A. Sedlacek, are a daughter, Debra (Dr. Bruce) Neumann of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; two sons, Dr. Scot (Dr. Joyce) Sedlacek of Golden, Colo., and their daughters, Bryn Sedlacek of Annapolis, Md., and Jordon Sedlacek of Fort Collins, Colo.; and Kurt (Cindy) Sedlacek of Salida, Colo.; one sister, Loretta Haddy of Cedar Rapids; and one brother, George T. Abodeely of Cedar Rapids.
She was born Aug. 22, 1928, in Worchester, Mass., to the Rev. Thomas and Ida Abodeely and was married
to Dr. Robert A. Sedlacek on June 26, 1949, in Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Alma Ellis, Ramza Sturgeon and Vivian Nemer; and a brother, Kenneth Abodeely.
A graduate of McKinley High School in 1946, she received her B.A. degree in music education from the University of Iowa in 1951. Her music career began when she received a four-year music scholarship to the University of Iowa. As a freshman music major, she was given the privilege of performing the soprano solo part in Haydn’s Oratorio “Creation” with a 100-piece orchestra. After receiving her B.A. degree, she taught in a consolidated school for one year before retiring to raise a family.
During the years her children were in school, she performed many years for Beethoven Club, Cantata Singers, church choir, the Follies, Community Theatre productions and with the Dieman-Bennett Dance Theatre of the Hemispheres.
Teaching dance was a part-time career so she started taking modeling classes from Corrine Shover’s Modeling School. That led to doing some modeling and then to some teaching of “Disco Modeling” and Photogenic Poses” for Corrine’s classes. Corrine also got her started as a Mary Kay beauty consultant, which she enjoyed for more than 20 years.
Vickie was an accomplished choreographer and dance teacher, having taught “Disco Dancing” for five years and then “Jazz Aerobics” for the next five years. She worked as a secretary/receptionist at the Group Benefits Design Corporation with her husband. She was in sales with KOCR-TV Fox 28, Telecom USA, Teleconnect, and retired after 13 years as an account executive with WMT Radio in 2002.
Vickie was a volunteer and major fundraiser for many local organizations, including Professional Women’s Network, Cedar Rapids Civic Ballet, first president of Dance Theatre Associates - the support group of Dieman-Bennett Dance Theatre of the Hemispheres, Zeta Phi Eta Drama sorority, Beethoven Club, St. Luke’s and Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary, Cedar Rapids Symphony Women’s Committee, Cedar Rapids-Marion Fine Arts Council and Paramount Theatre Restoration Project.
She was a member of First Congregational Church and choir, and Cedar Rapids Country Club.

Pauline B. Stodola, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House after a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Friday February 15 at All Saints Catholic Church by Rev. John Flaherty. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-7 p.m.
She is survived by sons Kevin (Jeri) of Naperville, IL, Steven (Debbie) of Mapleton, IA, Ken (Marge) of Cedar Rapids, Stanley (Vicki) of Golden, CO, Randall (Lois) of Cedar Rapids and Ron of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by a daughter, Jan Heeren (Bob) of Fairfax, IA and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by a sister Ruth and brother Melvin. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Alois, Charles and Joseph and her husband of 42 years, Stanley in 1992.
Pauline was born in Clutier, Iowa to Julia and Emil Dostal. She worked in the food service department at St. Lukes Hospital, Pioneer Office Products and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cedar Rapids. Pauline was a Volunteer at Mercy Hospital for many years.
Memorial donations may be made in Pauline’s name to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Ruth Smith, 91, Marion, died at Living Center West, Monday, February 11, 2013. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home by the Rev. Vicki Standley. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call after 12 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her children, Fran (Jerry) Elsea of Cedar Rapids and Howard “Larry” (Nancy) Smith of Moorestown NJ; five grandchildren, Jennifer Elsea, Amanda (Steve) Noble, Lisa (Rob) Czepiel, Matthew (Katie) Elsea and Bret Smith; and seven great grandchildren, Laine, Stephanie, and Robin Noble, Ethan Czepiel, Kelsey Smith and Anna and Zane Elsea. She was loved by everyone and known as “Grammy.”
Born February 22, 1921, in Nanticoke PA to John and Margaret Randall, she was the seventh of twelve children. Ruth was the widow of Howard Smith, her teenage sweetheart whom she married
in Gouldsboro PA on October 14, 1940. Ruth was a member of the “Greatest Generation” who persevered through WWII. We will all miss her strength, courage and generosity.
Leslie Doyle Stansberry

Leslie Doyle Stansberry died Monday, February 18, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Per his wishes there will be no visitation or services. Inurnment will be private at a later date.
He was born on May 19, 1924 in rural Albia, Iowa, the son of Everett and Amy Bush Stansberry. He was raised in the Albia area and served in the United States Navy during World War II. During his tour of duty he served on an auxiliary mine sweeper, “The Osprey”. He was on the first convoy to invade Europe during WW II. He received his honorable discharge on December 15, 1945.
Les was married
on September 18, 1949 to Margery Thoma in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Les was employed by the Iowa D.O.T for 35 years. During that time he belonged to a flying club in Davenport, Iowa. He, also, helped instruct in the Hawkeye Scuba Club lessons. Les enjoyed hunting, spending time on his house boat, and many trips to Alaska. He enjoyed the time he spent with his family and grandson and friends. Les will always be remembered for his endless stories and humor.
He is survived by his wife, Marge; daughters, Sandra Seger (Gerald) of Cedar Rapids, Nancy Chittenden (Jeff) of Sunrise Beach, MO, and Karen Desmarais (Bill) of Cedar Rapids, and one grandson, Colton of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by one brother, Louis Stansberry of Knoxville, Iowa, nieces and nephews, and many friends including our Lansing Marina Friends.
Preceding Les in death were his parents; his sisters, Marie Dodge, Helen McFatridge, Pauline Pearson, Frankie Louise Brown, Maxine Wathan and one brother, Dwight Stansberry.

Dale Lee Stuckenbruck, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday February 23, 2013 at Westridge Care Center. Dale was born February 18, 1928 in Belle Plaine, Iowa on the family farm. He was the son of Clifford and Muralda (Schuchert) Stuckenbruck. He graduated from Belle Paline High School. He served in the Navy from 1947 to 1949, and participated in Bikini ATOL in Hawaii. On October 8th, 1955 he married
Anna Maria Miceli in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. He was a member of the NRA Gun Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Dale worked for McKessons, Cutter Lab and retired from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Stuckenbruck, a sister-in-law, Esther Miceli of Cedar Rapids, a brother-in-law, Sam (Betty) Miceli of California and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Muralda Stuckenbruck, a sister, Violet and husband, Bob Cherveny, a brother-in-law, Jim Miceli, and a sister-in-law, Vita and husband Warren Plavits.
Services: 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, where visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Burial: Private at Oak Hill cemetery in Belle Plaine, Iowa.
Anna would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff at the Westridge Care Center for all the wonderful care Dale received over the last 2 ½ years.
Eugene W. Spooner, Jr.
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on November 16, 1930
Departed on February 24, 2013. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Eugene W. Spooner Jr., 82, a resident of Heritage Nursing and Rehab died Sunday February 24, 2013 at St. Lukes Hospital after a short illness. Per Eugene’s request there will be no service. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffery (Sharon) of Cedar Rapids, James (Mary) of East Moline, Illinois and two sisters Arlene and Violet. He is also survived by four grandchildren Greg, April, Jeff Jr., Kaleigh and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Jerry and two sisters.
Eugene was born on November 16, 1930 in Cedar Rapids the son of Eugene and Lenora Kepart Spooner Sr. Eugene was a machinist at Henderson Manufacturing and retired from there after more than 30 years of service.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool and especially the time spent with family and friends.
Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s foundation in Eugene’s name.
