Margaret Jeanette Stoa Switzer passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Hiawatha Care Center. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Atkins by the Rev. Doug Woltemath. Interment: St. Stephen’s cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.

Margaret was born August 30, 1923 on the family farm in Freeborn County, MN to Joseph and Millie Stoa. On November 28, 1942 Margaret married Merle Switzer at the Moscow Lutheran Church in Freeborn County. Margaret retired from Rockwell Collins in 1982 after 32 years of service. Her greatest joys were spending time with her family and friends, traveling, quilting, and spending time with her church family at St. Stephens. She has left many loving memories to be shared.

She is survived by her children, Judy (Ralph) Buhrow of Dundee, Il, Mary Gooden of Milton, Kathy Banks of Denver CO and North Hero, VT, Donald (Patricia) Switzer of Cedar Rapids, Darryl (Kristi) Switzer of Gilbert, AZ, and Mark (Cathy) Switzer of Winterset; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Donna Black of Cedar Rapids. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Merle, son Roger, great grandson, Landon; her parents, a sister and two brothers.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of the Hiawatha Care Center for the outstanding care given to Margaret over the past eight years.

Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church.

James LeRoy Upah
Born in Victor, Iowa on September 18, 1935
Departed on January 4, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

James LeRoy Upah, 73, of 3216 Sue Lane NW, died at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy on Sunday, January 4, 2009, after a long illness. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 2009 at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Interment: St. Joseph cemetery. A vigil will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia; seven children, Jeff (Denise) Upah of Cedar Rapids; Joel Upah of Ames, Jerry (Lori) Upah of Oskaloosa, Jennifer (Larry) Hanson of Fairfax, and Janette (Ed) Roehrich, James (Chris) Upah, and Jason (Elissa) Upah, all of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren; Holly (John) Robe, Jesse (Amber) Upah, Andrew and Abby Upah, Shannon (Gary) Honn, Crystal Hanson, Larry Hanson Jr., Andrea (Casey) Cornwell, Adam Roehrich, Noah Upah, and Cristian Upah; six great grandchildren; five sisters; and three brothers.

Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Jessica; his parents; a brother, Joseph; and a sister, Lois Ann Vitek.

Jim was born on September 18, 1935 in Victor to Joseph and Mary (Reitzler) Upah. Jim and his family moved to Chelsea when he was in 3rd grade and lived there until his graduation from high school. He then moved to Cedar Rapids. He married Virginia Formanek in Belle Plaine on June 11, 1955. Jim was employed by World Class Industry for 28 years.

Memorials may be sent to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy or the Iowa Blood and Cancer Center.

The family would like to thank Dr. Zenk, Marcie and the staff of the Iowa Blood and Cancer Center as well as the staff from the Oncology floor at Mercy Medical Center and the Hospice House of Mercy for the wonderful care given to Jim.

Jaxson James Stewart
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on November 4, 2011
Departed on March 2, 2013. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Jaxson James Stewart, 15 month old son of Shelly Stewart and Doug Hernandez, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the Maranatha Bible Church, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Aaron Telecky will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be to the family.

Stanley E. Schoff
Born in Cedar County, Iowa on January 11, 1927
Departed on March 11, 2013. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Stanley E. Schoff, 86, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at Hallmark Care Center, Mt. Vernon, after as short illness. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Friday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include daughters Randy (Jimmie) Graham of Plano, Texas; Roxanne (Jim) Delany of Marion, and one son Ron Schoff of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Graham, , Matthew Delany, Holly and Cameron Schoff; one brother, Kenneth (Bonnie) Schoff of Mount Vernon; two sisters, Beverly (Carl) Achey of Lisbon, and Shirley (Howard) Morehead of Lowden; and his special friend, Martha Ann Heald of Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty, and two brothers, Wayne and Melvin.

Stanley was born January 11, 1927 in Cedar County, Iowa, the son of William and Lydia Schoff. He attended grade school in Cedar County and then Lisbon High School where he graduated. He then served two years as a Merchant Seaman followed by three years in the U.S. Coast Guard. After his discharge he attended State Teachers College for one year. He then married Betty Trimble and to this union, three children were born. Stan was a patrolman for the Cedar Rapids Police Department for over 23 years, retiring in 1982.

He loved hunting mushrooms in the spring and looked forward to the start of his beloved St. Louis Cardinals baseball season. In 1971, he coached his son’s little league baseball team, from Ellis Park, Dow’s Dairy, to the city championship.

Stan was a member of the American Legion, NRA, Linn County History Center, Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, Audubon Society, National Maritime Union, Iowa Police Chief Association, and Cedar Rapids Police Department.

Memorials may be directed to the Carl & Mary Koehler History Center.

Beverly A. Smith
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 2, 1930
Departed on March 28, 2013. Resided in Marion, Iowa.

Service: Monday, April 1, 2013
Beverly A. Smith, 82, of Marion died on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services will be held on Monday, April 1 at 1 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.

She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and attended grade and high school in Cedar Rapids. She received her Bachelors Degree from Ohio State University and her Master’s of Social Work Degree from University of California, Berkley. Beverly worked in various clinical settings in 32 years of practice. After her retirement, she volunteered at Helping Hands. Beverly enjoyed gardening and rescuing animals.

She is survived by several cousins.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Josephine Bacon.

Ronald "Bones" Sheronick
Born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 14, 1943
Departed on August 15, 2011. Resided in Marion, Iowa.

Ronald E. “Bones” Sheronick, 67, of Marion, died August 15, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.

Survivors include his wife Cheri (Phipps) Sheronick; son, Michael (Sharon) Sheronick of Indianapolis; mother, Mary Ullrick of Cedar Rapids; brother, Larry Ullrick of Cedar Rapids; step-grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda and Nathan; step-great granddaughter, Kyra; close extended family, Don and Beverly Busenbark of Marion; as well as many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Sheronick and his step-father, Merle Ullrick.

Ronald Edward Sheronick was born October 14, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland the son of Edward and Mary (Hootman) Sheronick. He was united in marriage to Cheri Lynn Phipps on August 18, 1973 in Cedar Rapids. He was employed for over 40 years at Bob Zimmerman Ford in body repair and prior to retirement, in detailing. Ron enjoyed restoring his 1968 Pontiac GTO and attended the yearly GTO Nationals with Cheri. He was a fan of drag racing and member of the GTO Association of America. Above all, his greatest enjoyment was time spent with his family and friends.

A memorial fund has been established in Ron’s honor.
