Helen Jean Silvers, 56, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness in Cedar Rapids. Helen was born on November 16, 1954 to Darrell and Viola Walters in Guttenberg, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Saturday October 8, 2011, at 3:00 pm with visitation starting at 1:00 pm.
Helen is survived by her husband; Bruce Silvers of Cedar Rapids; son; Josh Silvers of Cedar Rapids; mother; Viola Walters of Cedar Rapids; granddaughter; Carmen Wolfe (Francine Silvers)of Cedar Rapids; brothers; Darrell Walters of Cedar Rapids and Bob (Melanie) Walters of Carrollton, Ohio and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Betty J. Suchan, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday October 5, 2011 in West Ridge Care Center. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 3-7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 10:00 a.m. at the chapel on Sunday.
Survivors include a son, David (Wendy) Suchan of Cedar Rapids, two grandchildren; Zachary F. Suchan of Cedar Rapids, and Corey Suchan of Pensacola, Florida, a brother, Robert Willson of Mankato, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edward F. Suchan and a son, Michael Suchan.
Betty was born April 9, 1924 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Nemec Willson. She married
Edward F. Suchan at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Betty was employed at Armstrong in Human Resource. She was a member of Daughters of American Colonists, Veteran’s Drum and Bugle Corps and volunteer at the Czech & Slovak Museum. Betty was a very out going and active person. She took many friends to the Community Concerts and attended many of the plays. She liked to travel, read and education. Betty was a very loving and caring person, making friends easily and touched many lives. Her love for her family was endless. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Donald Hilliard, Dr. Deb Wilber, Sister Mary and the staff at West Ridge Care Center and Mercy Hospice for all the loving care they gave her. Ronald A. Young, 82, of Cascade, died June 16, 2007 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque following an extended illness. Memorial Services 1 PM., Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Rev. Dick Speight will officiate. Friends may call Tuesday, June 19, 2007 from 5 to 8 PM at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include his loving wife Geraldine Jeri; son Rick Young and wife Dallas of Grove, OK; daughter Shannon Bartlett and husband Rodney of Solon; son Kenneth Young and wife Deb of Cedar Rapids; special aunt Alice Hoiness of Harmony, MN; grandchildren Raymond Young and wife Lee of Alburnett, Miranda Niemi and husband Paul of Cedar Rapids, Alicia Clark and husband Tony of Ames, Jon Ryan and wife Mariann of Cedar Rapids, and Sara Young of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are his great grandchildren Cody and Courtney Young, Abby Niemi, and Nicholas Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mildred Young, and infant son Mark.
Ronald Arthur Young was born February 10, 1925 in Harmony, MN the beloved son of Mildred Young. He served his country honorably during WWII in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Jeri Klein on July 10, 1947 in Marengo, Iowa. He was employed for 17 years as a Building Engineer for the Cedar Rapids School District. He was a member of the American Legion, and the Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, traveling to Texas and North Buena Vista, and above all his time spent with his family. He was a loving father, grandfather, and friend of many and will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved him.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the memorial fund established in Ron's honor.

Stacey Lynn Scott, 39, of 807 17th Street SW died Wednesday March 7, 2012 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services at 1:00 PM on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Cedar Memorial’s Certified Celebrant, Julie Freese will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday.
Survivors include a son, Booker who lives at home, father, Kenneth and a sister, Sherry Surrett all of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by her grandmother Elnora Ritze of Center Point, a niece Justice, nephew Austin, many aunts, uncles, cousins and her best friend Autumn Hensley. She was preceded in death by her mother and a cousin Rick Scott.
Stacey was born on February 26, 1973 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Kenneth and Bonnie Ritze Scott. She was a homemaker and did volunteer work at Wilson Middle School. She enjoyed crocheting, dancing, movies and especially the time spent with her beloved family and many friends. Stacey was a wonderful and caring daughter, mother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established in Stacey’s name.

Owen T. Strickel, 86, of Cedar Rapids fell asleep in death on March 22, 2012 at Northbrook Manor Care Center. Services at 7:00 PM on Wednesday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Mt. Vernon Road SE. Elder Dan Paxton will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Monday.
Survivors include a son Timothy of La Belle, Missouri, daughters, d’Juana Abukaf and Taani El-Mam both of Amman Jordan; 9 grandchildren, Dwayne, Jeffrey, Crystal, Rachael, Shareen, d’Lyse, Lena, Amira, and Noor; 9 great grandchildren, Haroun, Maria, Adam, Austin, Lydia, Aaron, Heather, Echo, and Breeze. Brothers, Gerald of San Diego, California, Walter of Newbury Park California; sisters Joyce Bissell of Carmichael, California and Janet Hendrickson of Citrus heights, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, wife, sister Inola Strickel and brother Leroy.
Owen was born on June 25, 1925 on a farm near Rowley, the oldest of seven children of Robert and Gertrude A. (Seward) Strickel. He married
Billie Beaty on December 15, 1962 in Cedar Rapids. They had one son, Owen Jr. who was still born. Owen adopted Billie’s son Timothy, and the couple adopted twin girls, d’Juana and Taani as babies on July 27, 1965. Owen spent mot of his life working as a theater projectionist in Independence, Marion and Cedar Rapids. He worked many years at the Paramount Theater which he loved dearly. In his later years he worked as a security guard for some 16 years; finally retiring at 80 years old. He was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses-Pioneer Avenue Congregation in Cedar Rapids.

Mary Kathryn Slingluff, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday April 1, 2012 in Mercy Medical Center. Visitation will be on Monday April 9, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday April 10, 2012 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Ivan Nienhaus will officiate.
Survivors include her son, Phil (Karen Kamberling) Slingluff of Hiawatha, a brother, James (Peg) Rauenbuehler of Fort Collins, Colorado; sister-in-law, Joan Rauenbuehler, of San Mateo, California; sister-in-law Marianne Rauenbuehler of White Fish Bay, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; brothers Walter, John, and Mark; sister Pauline Fifer; and an infant sister.
Mary was born February 18, 1920 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Bathilda Koestner Rauenbuehler. She married
Jack William Slingluff on January 27, 1942 in Burlington, Iowa. Mary was a buyer for Armstrong’s Department Store in Cedar Rapids and a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Her faith was very important to her and she was very devoted. Mary enjoyed dining out, wine, and poppy seed kolaches.
