ACKERMAN, DEALDA R. was born August 25, 1917 near Dumont, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence E. and Lena (Felsman) Manifold. She married Hollis C. Overturf on April 18, 1934. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1960. DeAlda joined in marriage to Raymond Steward on February 23, 1966. He died June 30, 1984. She then married Joe D. Ackerman on June 7, 1986. Joe preceded her in death on October 27, 1989. DeAlda worked in the business office at ISTC (UNI) for many years. She was the bookkeeper at Cliff & Holly Shell Station in Cedar Falls and retired as the owner and operator of NEITA Raceway (Cedar Falls Raceway). DeAlda was a member of the United Church of Christ and the Happy Thought Rebekah Lodge #256. She died Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at Sartori Memorial Hospital, at 83 years of age.
DeAlda is survived by her daughter, Alma Heath and her husband Philip, of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Shawn, Kevin, Brett and Stacy Heath and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Kate Swanson of Cedar Falls; many nieces and nephews, and several step-children and step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her three husbands; an infant brother and three sisters, Lou Stock, Lucille Williams and Marie Stamp.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2001 at the United Church of Christ, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the church.
ACKERSON, MARIE R. was born June 27, 1926 in Garrison, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis and Eunice (McClain) Berger. She married Clarence Joseph Ackerson on December 28, 1945 in Waterloo, Iowa. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1977. Marie was a head cook in various establishments in Waterloo and Cedar Falls, Iowa. She died Saturday, September 15, 2001, at her home, at 75 years of age.
Marie is survived by her son, Kim Ackerson and his wife Cindy, of Cedar Falls; her three daughters, Mary Bloes and her companion Ralph Fleck, of Waterloo, Pam Fox of Waterloo and Tina Fintel and her husband Greg, of Waterloo; a step-son, Tony Ackerson and his wife Doris, of Livingston, Montana; fifteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a sister, Lois Jahnke of Preston, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; three grandsons, five brothers, Harry, Walter, Charlie, Dutch and Johnny; a sister, Mae Jackson and a son-in-law, Ronald L. Fox.
Services were 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2001 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the family.
ADAMSEN, EMMA LOUISE was born November 23, 1909 at Elberon, Iowa the daughter of John and Mary (Ludvicek) Fox. She married Otto Grover and they were later divorced. She then married Andrew Adamsen on June 19, 1949 in Fairmont, Minnesota. He died January 11, 1988. Louise died Saturday, October 7, 2000 at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa at the age of 90 years.
She is survived by a son, Robert Grover and his wife, Darlene of Mesa, Arizona; a daughter, Virginia L. Grover of Woodward, Iowa; three grandchildren, Claudia Smith and her husband Bruce of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Joan Behrle and her husband, Ed of West Union, Iowa, and William “Butch” Grover and his fiancee, Angie Bigelow of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a brother, Donald Fox of Kearney, Nebraska and two sisters, Edith Stone of Miami, Florida and Geneva Martin of Livermore, Iowa; and a former daughter-in-law, Jo Grover of Waterloo, Iowa.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, husband; two sister; and five brothers.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2000 at First Christian Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church or the Cedar Falls Senior Citizens Center.
Adolph, Marcelle Rosa (ROBINSON) was born March 7, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Polish-Jewish immigrants, Joseph and Lena (Iglowitz) Robinson. During the Great Depression, she was a Works Progress Administration youth worker at Hull House, the settlement house founded by pioneering Social Worker Jane Adams. At Hull House, she fell in love with Irv Adolph whom she married in 1941. Marcelle helped manufacture the B-17 Bomber during World War II. She earned her BA from George Williams College and a Master's of Social Work from the University of Illinois, Chicago. In 1948, she gave birth to her daughter, Naomi. After a lengthy career serving children and adolescents in a variety of Chicago agencies, Marcelle spent the final 20 years of her career as a clinical social worker at Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital, where she was recognized as Employee of the Year in 1975. She served on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women’s Network and the Chicago Board for the National Council of Jewish Women. Marcelle lost her beloved husband, Irv, to cancer in 1991. She moved to Cedar Falls in 1998. Marcelle died Monday, June 25, 2001 at the Cedar Falls Western Home at the age of 87 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Naomi McCormick and her husband, John, of Cedar Falls, Iowa and one brother, Seymour Robinson and his wife, Anita, of Los Angeles, California.
Marcelle was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

AHLMAN, ROY A. , 82, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Roy was born April 2, 1922 in Duluth, Minnesota, the son of Eric Arvid and Hulda S. (Dunberg) Ahlman. He married Dorothy M. Brokaw on May 21, 1960, at Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Roy served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was the owner of Action Products Inc. in Waterloo, Iowa where he retired in November of 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Cedar Falls; one son, Jay T. (Lisa Ann) Ahlman, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, two daughters, Barbara Anne (Clarence) Renes of Des Moines, Iowa and Penny (John) Livers of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Lane, Margot and Jack Livers, and one sister, Alice Carlson, of Hopkins, Minnesota.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents.

ALEXANDER, CLARK was born May 26, 1952 in Hampton, Iowa the son of David Earl and Shirley Ann (Folkers) Alexander. He married Pam Doerr June 15, 1974 in Dubuque, Iowa. Clark served in the United States Navy from 1973 to 1977 and was employed as an electrician at John Deere since 1979. He died Monday, July 15, 2002 at his home at the age of 50 years.
Survivors include his wife, Pam of Cedar Falls; his daughter, Amy (Nick) Goetsch of Des Moines, Iowa, his son, Eric Alexander of Cedar Falls; one brother, Mark Alexander of Davenport, Iowa and one sister, Joelle Jensen of North English, Iowa.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2002 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Full military rites were conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
ALLENDER, MARY M. was born November 11, 1906 in Linn County, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Neckville) Petrak. She married Floyd O. Allender on May 23, 1929. He preceded her in death in September of 1989. Mary was a graduate of Central City High School and taught school in rural Linn County for several years. She died Saturday, December 11, 1999, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, at 93 years of age.
Mary is survived by her son, Donald D. Allender and her daughter, Jacqueline Wilson, both of Cedar Falls, Iowa; five grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; two grandchildren and her two brothers, Frankie and Lewis Petrak.

AMELUNG, GEORGE was born January 20, 1917 in Butternut, Wisconsin, the son of Reinhold and Kathryn (Meyer) Amelung. He married Jo Ann Schreoder on July 7, 1972 in Memphis, Tennessee. George served with the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was a Field Supervisor for Chromium Mining and Smelting Corporation in Memphis, Tennessee. He died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa, at 86 years of age.
George is survived by his wife, Jo Ann, of Waterloo; a son, Harold Amelung of Apache Junction, Arizona; a daughter, Sharon Amelung Ramsey of Batesville, Arkansas; three step-daughters, Linda Craddock Schult of El Chajon, California, Janet Craddock Peterson of Atlanta, Georgia and Cathy Craddock Chavez of El Paso, Texas; five grandchildren, Matthew Ramsey, Lisa and Lori Schult, and Valerie and Paul Chavez, and a sister, Irma Amelung Dandeneau of Ashland, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-son, Robert Craddock; two brothers, Ed and Florian Amelung, and a sister, Helen Schneider.

AMSDEN, RUTH REED was born August 6, 1905 in Calhoun County, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Jessie (McDonald) Sylvester. She married Ralph Wheeler in July of 1927. They were later divorced. Ruth married Harry Reed on November 4, 1933. He preceded her in death in September of 1961. She married Irving Amsden on April 28, 1963. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1984. Ruth was a member of the Lanesboro Happy Hour Club and the Methodist Church. She died Tuesday, January 18, 2000, at the Western Home in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at 94 years of age.
Ruth is survived by her two sons, Jack Reed and his wife Donita, of Cedar Falls, and Dennis Reed and his wife Agnes, of Winterset, Iowa; a step-son, Charles Amsden of Phoenix, Arizona; a step-daughter, Clara Mae Flack of Colo, Iowa; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands; three brothers, Vern, Merle and Donald Sylvester; and two sisters, Eva Cox and Gladys Karn.

AMUNDSON, PATRICIA E. 80, of Cedar Falls died Friday, September 3, 2004 at Sartori Memorial Hospital. She was born May 24, 1924 in Sioux City, Iowa the daughter of Raymond & Mary (Tracy) Abbott. She married Ralph R. Amundson June 20, 1946 in Nebraska. He preceded her in death May 10, 1996. Patricia was a devoted mother and housewife.
Survivors include two daughters, Jo (Buzz) Roberts of Brooklyn, Iowa, Sharon (Ron) Zuehlke of Waterloo, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Thomas and one sister, Shirley Hoffman.
Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with inurnment at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call for one hour prior to service Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.
ANDERSEN, HAZEL R. , 99, died Saturday, March 13, 2004, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. She was born September 22, 1904, in Evans, Iowa, the daughter of John C. and Daisy (Stump) Robinson. Hazel married Thorvald J. “Toby” Andersen on June 12, 1936 at Kensett, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1990. Hazel was a graduate of Selma High School in Selma, Iowa and attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and taught at both Dike and Greene High Schools. Hazel also taught in the Adult Education Program in Waterloo, Iowa. She loved the written word, especially poetry, and had several of her poems published. Hazel was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, the Iowa Poetry Association, the American Association of University Women, the American Farm Bureau, Sigma Tau Delta and Kappa Delta Pi.
Hazel is survived by her sister, Ruth (Chuck) Kuczor of Cedar Falls and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son, Michael Andersen.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel with burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Home or Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.
ANDERSON, RICHARD LEROY "ANDY" was born March 16, 1941 at New Hartford, Iowa, the son of Vernon Harry and Lillian (Corwin) Anderson. He married Joyce E. Skattum on April 10, 1964 at Waterloo, Iowa. Richard was employed at Dept. 60 & 52B with John Deere & Co. in Waterloo for 30 years, retiring on disability in 1989. He died Thursday, December 17, 1998 at 57 years of age.
Richard is survived by his wife Joyce, of Cedar Falls; his two daughters, Jayne Anderson of Iowa City, Iowa and Melissa Anderson Flaig of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Andrew Doyle, Carena Anderson, Julie Nagel and Bradyn Flaig; three sisters, Denise White of Omaha, Nebraska, Brenda Wiegmann and Karen Anderson, both of Parkersburg, Iowa; five brothers, Donald W. of Waterloo, Craig of Chapin, Iowa, Rodney of Parkersburg, Kenneth of Rotunda West, Florida and Dana of Parkersburg; his two aunts, Dorothy Jones and Velda Rolfs and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Darrel and four nieces, Stacey Yearling and Cassie, Callie and Carrie Anderson.
Memorial services were held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 1998 at First Presbyterian Church with inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials to the family.
ANDORF, MARY I. 87, of the Denver Sunset Home died Friday, July 2, 2004 at the home. She was born July 20, 1916 near Trafalger, Indiana the daughter of Eddie Guy & Anna Lucy (Mitchell) Parkhurst. Mary was united in marriage to Chris Andorf on November 25, 1937 at Nashua, Iowa. She was a homemaker and was employed at Ron’s Floor Covering for seven years.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia (Maynard) Bietz of Denver; her son, Norman (Sharon) Andorf of Oelwein, six grandchildren, Larry Bietz, Cheryl Swihart, Tony Andorf, Troy Andorf, Tami Bartosh, and Tara Derifield, ten great grandchildren; and one brother, Nelson M. Parkhurst of Lafayette, Indiana.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hudson. A memorial fund will be established.
