Doris R. (Currier) Trinder, 84, of 1217 6th Street NW, died Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 9 AM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Pastor Darrin Whiting chaplain with hospice of Mercy will officiate. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Surviving to honor her memory are her children, Linda Curtis, Jackie (Russell) Lewis, Darla (Chuck) Gunderson, Lorie High, and Sandra Chambers all of Cedar Rapids, and Gary (Janis) High of Phoenix, Arizona, fifteen grandchildren, and many-many great and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister Lila Strait, and one great grandson.

Doris was born November 3, 1925, in Cedar Rapids to Leo and Rosamond Carson Currier. She graduated from Roosevelt High School. She married James E. Trinder Jr. on December 11, 1958 at Rock Island, Illinois. He died in 1991. She was a lifelong cook and retired from Country Kitchen.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her name.

Luella Emma Schlue
Born in Blairstown, IA on January 1, 1900
Departed on April 12, 2012. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Luella Niebuhr Schlue died peacefully Monday evening at Higley Mansion at the age of 103. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. David Miller. Friends may call at the church after 9:30 a.m. Friday. Interment: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.

She was born in rural Blairstown, the daughter of William and Johanna Kluss Niebuhr, on March 28, 1909. She married Vernon F. Schlue on June 28, 1930. He died on May 31, 1968.

She graduated from Blairstown High School and attended State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls.

Luella taught in a rural school for three years. She later worked for the food service at Trinity Lutheran School and McKinley Jr. High for nineteen years.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the Ruth Guild. She made many Cathy caps for cancer survivors and sewed lap robes for nursing home residents.

Survivors include her children: Mary Ann (Walter) Kollmorgen and Larry (Duronda) Schlue all of Belle Plaine; Dotty Kaiser of Chicago and daughter-in-law, Dottie Schlue of San Marino, CA. Grandchildren: David (Sandy) Kollmorgen of London, England; Lisa Kollmorgen (Mario Natta) of Highland Park, IL; Kristen (Lonny) Olejniczak of Robins; Craig Schlue of San Marino, CA; Karen Schlue (Bruce Rawding) of Sierra Madre, CA; John (Shawna) Schlue of Los Angeles, CA; and Samantha (Mark) Ironside of Swisher. She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Neoma Newton and Ilene Meyer. She was preceded in death by her husband, son John, son-in-law, Karl Kaiser, great grand daughter, Kathryn Kollmorgen, six brothers, one sister and five sisters-in-law.

Luella was good and kind to everyone and beloved by her family and all who knew her. Her quiet, firm faith was an inspiration to all who came in contact with her.

Memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran School or Hospice of Mercy.

The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Higley Mansion and the Mercy Hospice team.

Mildred Schirm Cannon
Born in Walker, Iowa on November 9, 1911
Departed on January 16, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Mildred B. Schirm Cannon, 98, of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord on January 15, 2010 at Living Center East following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Marty Garrison of Hope United Church of Christ will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Monday, January 18, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Internment will take place at the Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.

Surviving include one son Ron Schirm and wife Donna Wray, one daughter Marilyn and husband Gordon of Aurora, IL, and daughter-in-law Janette Schirm of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one step great grandchild, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Winn and Myrtle Winn Mathis, two husbands, one son Gary Schirm, and two sisters Grace Lyman and Evelyn Condon.

Mildred was born November 9, 1911 in Walker, Iowa. She married H.W. (Jim) Schirm on December 16, 1929 in Cedar Rapids; he died on December 2, 1952. She later married Earl Cannon on May 18, 1968 on Aurora, IL; he died July 27, 1971. She graduated from Grant High School in Cedar Rapids in 1929. She worked as a clerk at Pennick & Ford, Cryovac, Globe Machinery & Supply Company, and later as a housekeeper for Merchants National Bank for several years. She was previously a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids where she was a home missionary, and a member of the Good Samaritans for many years. She was a member of the Witwer and Asbury Senior Centers. In recent years, she was attending Cedar Rapids Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, singing, playing cards, and traveling often with her sister Evelyn. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy in Mildred’s honor.

Joseph A. Vanous
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on August 27, 1923
Departed on January 11, 2008. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Joseph A. Vanous, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, January 11, 2008, at his home. Funeral Mass and military honors will be held at 10:30 AM Monday at All Saints Catholic Church with Rev. David O’Connor officiating. Burial in St. John’s cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Sunday with a Vigil service beginning at 7 PM.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years Nadine, six children, Susan Richard Wolfe of Cedar Rapids, Richard Mary Beth of Rochelle, Illinois, Mary Ann Will Stober of Alden, Iowa, James Cathy of Roseville, Minnesota, Carol Dr. Todd Langager of Cedar Rapids, and Paul Jody of Mason City, Iowa, twelve grandchildren, Lisa Vic Parcell, Dan Kristin Wolfe, Claire and Laura Vanous, Clint Sarah Stober, Chris Devon Stober, Mike, Carolyn, and Kevin Vanous, Karah Langager, Ethan and Syndnie Vanous, and three great grandchildren Isaiah and Arthur Stober, and Kaylee Parcell. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Edwin.

Joseph was born August 27, 1923 in Cedar Rapids to Joseph and Bessie Kofron Vanous. He served in the US Army during WW II. He married Nadine Peterzalek on September 2, 1948 in Belle Plaine, Iowa. He was a electrical engineer at Collins Radio for many years retiring in 1985. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, VFW Post No 788, Catholic Layman’s Club, and the National Czech and Slovak Museum. He enjoyed reading, photography, and electronics. He loved being an Electrical Engineer and all the people he worked with. He especially enjoyed family vacations.

Joseph will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Daniel Lee Schooley
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on May 21, 1965
Departed on January 30, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Daniel “Dan” L. Schooley, 44, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at home, Saturday, January 30, 2010. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. William Harnish. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Survivors include wife, Sherri; children, Ayla (Jamie) Walker and Devin Schooley, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Brian and Trevor Mease; mother, Virginia (James) Joslin of Marion; siblings, David (Sherri) Schooley of Memphis, TN, Donald Schooley of Marion, and Dianna (Bobby) Lahue of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews; and many close family and friends.

Dan was born May 21, 1965 in Cedar Rapids. He married Sherri Walker there on May 21, 2004. He loved riding his Harley motorcycle but his greatest passion was his grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered as a jokester and a friend.
