Jean E. Sheppard, 92, of Hanover, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Lutheran Retirement Village at Utz Terrace in Hanover, PA. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, February 15, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Annajean Lybarger and her husband, Mike, of Hanover; two grandsons, Brandon and Rick Lybarger.
Born July 26, 1917 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Anna Gordon Reynolds Taylor and wife of 55 years to the late Harold William Sheppard, who died in 2000. She was employed for almost 40 years with Rockwell Collins, retiring in 1982. While there, she helped work on the Apollo Mission manual. She was active in yoga, knitting, and enjoyed music

Dale D. Smith, 61, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday November 24, 2010 following a sudden illness. Services: 2:00 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside, where visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Burial: Private at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Smith, and a brother, Danny Smith, both Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his father and his brother Harry Smith.
Dale was born December 2, 1949 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Virgil and Mary Phillipson Smith. He was employed at the Wayerhaeuser Company. He was a member of Viola Methodist Church and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed fishing, making crafts with his brother and was a great cook. Dale loved helping people and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial fund has been established by the family.

Lavina M. Sullivan, 92, of Evergreen Estates, formerly of 1449 2nd St. SE. died Wednesday November 17, 2010 from complications of old age. Services at 11:00 AM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include a son Terry (Annette) and a daughter, Connie Varner all of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a granddaughter, Debbie.
Lavina was born on November 10, 1918 in Benton County, the daughter of Martin and Sadie Carl Newman. She married
Ralph L. Sullivan on December 23, 1945 in Rock Island, Illinois. He died in 1993. Lavina was a house keeper for many years and worked for several Cedar Rapids families. She enjoyed playing bingo and had a great love for animals, especially her dogs. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Daniel F. Shea, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday November 13, 2010 at Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center following a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial: St. Joseph Catholic cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel and after 9:00 a.m. at the church on Thursday. A vigil service will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Daniel Francis Shea was born March 11, 1939. He grew up on a farm near Fairfax and attend St. Patrick’s School in Fairfax. He married
Mary Kay Newton on August 4, 1962 at Sacred Heart Church in Waterloo. After their marriage they lived in Cedar Rapids and became members of St. Patrick’s.
Dan is survived by his wife Mary Kay, his daughters, Donna Kapsalakis and Fiancee (Doug Phillips) of Cedar Rapids, and Julie (Steven) Ruiz of Cedar Rapids, his siblings, Phyllis (Charles) Becker of Norway, Thomas Shea of Keystone, Iowa, Mary (Jack) Rolinger of Mesa, Arizona, his grandchildren, Christopher, Felicia, Jordan, Caitlin, Daniel, Tyler, Brandon, and Bryce and his great grandchildren, Dante and Trey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Pearl Shea.
Dan was a machine Assembler for Cherry Burrell/Evergreen Packaging Equipment for 22 years retiring in January of 2001. Dan loved to play tennis, take bike rides and go fishing. He was a loving husband, father and worked hard all his life to care and provide for his family. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial fund has been established.

Elizabeth Jane “Freddie” VanderSchaaf, 86, of Cottage Grove Place, died there Thursday March 19, 2009 following a brief illness. Services: 7:00 p.m. Saturday March 28, 2009 at New Covenant Bible Church by the Rev. Bob Westfall and Rev. Kim Pagel. Burial: Lisbon cemetery. Friends may call on Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday after 6:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served following the service.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Howard C. VanderSchaaf, two sons, Mark (Elizabeth M. )VanderSchaaf of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Neil (Ann) Vanderschaaf of Round Rock, Texas, a brother, Leo (Collette) Frederick of Lisbon, three grandchildren, Brian Vanderschaaf, Matthew Vanderschaaf and Kristen Vanderschaaf all of Round Rock, Texas. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Elizabeth was born March 7, 1923 on her family’s farm near Lisbon, Iowa, the daughter of William “Ray” and Georgia Dance Frederick. She married
Howard C. VanderSchaaf on July 20, 1947 in Lisbon. Elizabeth attended Cornell and Iowa State College where she graduated with a degree in home economics. She was a member and church organist for many years at New Covenant Bible Church.
Elizabeth loved crocheting and quilt making and made many quilts for family and friends. She wrote three books on family history. Elizabeth was a volunteer for St. Luke’s Hospital for over 38 years, bringing mail and good cheer to all she met.

Paul Shimek Jr., 94, a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, passed away there Saturday, October 30, 2010. Services will be held at 3 PM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 PM to service time Wednesday at the chapel.
Surviving to honor his memory are his daughter Lisa See of Arizona, two brothers Robert Shimek of Cedar Rapids, and Edward Shimek of Minneapolis, Minn., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister Mary Holland, and brothers George, Frank, John, and Henry Shimek.
Paul was born February 3, 1916 in Cedar Rapids to Paul and Hattie (Buehler) Shimek Sr.
Sgt Paul Shimek served in the US Army during WW II. His tour included the North Africa campaign with General Patton, first wave of the Omaha Beach Normandy invasion with the first division 16th infantry, Battle of the Bulge, and with the first infantry crossing the Rhine River into Germany. He received two Silver Stars, and one Bronze Star.
Paul was employed as a welder at Iowa Manufacturing from 1949 to 1979.
Military honors by Hanford American Legion Post # 5.
