Raymond John “Red” Stallman, 91, of Fairfax, died at Mercy Medical Center, Wednesday, May 19, 2010. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church by the Rev. Dustin Vu. Interment: St. Patrick cemetery, Fairfax with military honors by the American Legion Pekomy Post. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church and after 9 a.m. Saturday. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his brother John (Marcella) Stallman of Fairfax; sisters-in-law, Rose Stallman and Erma Stallman, both of Fairfax; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Louie, Ben, Bert and George; and sisters, Luella Frimmil and Dolores Zamastil.
Red was born May 2, 1919 in Fairfax to John and Anna Schulte Stallman. Red spent the last five years with Brian, Jean and family. They were honored to have his presence in their home. Red was a lifelong farmer, a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, and the American Legion, Pekomy Post.

Ardella A. Schlotfelt, 78, of Cedar Rapids, IA died Thursday, June 10, 2010 in her home.
Memorial Service: 1:00 pm Monday, June 14, 2010 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Daniel Clark-Bridges officiating. Inurnment will be in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery at a later date.
Survivors include her husband, James W. Schlotfelt of Cedar Rapids; Children, James R. (Skip) (Debbi) Schlotfelt, Rodney (Teresa J.) Schlotfelt, Joni (Rick) Kern and Lon (Teresa Ann) Schlotfelt, all of Cedar Rapids.
Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Anne (Jason) Sopousek, Daniel Kern, Nathan Schlotfelt, Rachel Schlotfelt and Leah Schlotfelt; 2 great grandchildren, Benjamin & Patrick Sopousek.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
Ardella A. Knoop was born May 5, 1932 in Clutier, IA the daughter of Harry and Inez (Hach) Knoop. Ardella played for the Clutier Charging Czech’s basketball team from 1945-1949. She was a member of the All-State Women’s Team in 1947 and 1948. Ardella played basketball at A.I.C. College in Davenport where she traveled throughout the United States and abroad. She was inducted into the Iowa Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 1979 and received the Vicki award. On August 11, 1951 she married
James W. Schlotfelt in Dysart, IA. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who loved her and knew her.
Helen E. Zila

Helen Joens Zila, 97, a Cedar Rapids resident for many years died Monday, December 27, 2004 at Living Center West following a long illness. Services: 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial: Czech National cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 12 PM to 1 PM at the Chapel. The Rev. James Langley of Westminster Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Survivors include nieces; great nieces; nephews; great nephews; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ted Joens of Traer.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1995; her parents, Henry and Matilda Hanson Joens of Traer; a sister, Elsie Shellhorn and husband Harry of Traer; three brothers, Ted of Traer, Ervin and wife Mariam of Cedar Rapids, and Eldon and wife Irene of Gilman; a niece, Donna Kuelper of Cedar Rapids; and a nephew, Donald Joens of Cedar Rapids.
Helen was born September 10, 1907 in Traer. She was united in marriage to Robert R. Zila on August 19, 1940 in Davenport. Helen was associated with the original May Drug Stores for 34 years as buyer and directorate of cosmetics division and served on the Mays Executive Board. She was also a buyer for Armstrong's Department Store in the cosmetics department for 10 years. Helen was a past member of the local Toastmistress Club and the Business and Professional Womens Club. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be donated to the charity of the donor's choice.

Eleanor M. Usher, 90, of 2700 1st Ave. in Marion died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007 at her home after a short illness. Services at 11 AM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include her husband, Harold, a son, Gary and his wife, Barb of Marion and a sister, Iona Mulburn of Mt. Vernon. She is also survived by a grandson, Chad and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard, and four sisters, Helen, Marie, Dorothy and Bernice.
Eleanor was born on April 23, 1916 in Covington, the daughter of Harry and Myrle Rawson Hanson. She married
Harold D. Usher on June 14, 1935 in Cedar Rapids. Eleanor was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafts, playing the organ, cooking and especially time spent with her beloved family.
Beryl Mildred Sprecher

Beryl Mildred Sprecher, 94, of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 20, 2010. Honoring Beryl’s wishes, she was cremated and no funeral services will be held. Arrangements and inurnment are with Cedar Memorial Funeral Park Funeral Home.
Beryl was born on June 6, 1916, to Paul and Bessie Walterick in Fort Dodge. She married
Franz Sprecher in 1936. They had two children and lived in California while “Spreck” was in the Navy, later moving to Fort Dodge and settling in Cedar Rapids in 1954. They moved to Village Place, a retirement center in Marion. in 1997. Since 2007, Beryl resided at Evergreen Estates III in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed traveling and crafts. She was an avid reader and loved being a homemaker.
Beryl is survived by her, son Denny (Bernie) of South Jordan, Utah; her daughter, Diane Schmidt of Hiawatha; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Warren of Marion; a brother, Don (Dorothy) Walterick of Medford, Ore.; and beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Dina; and sister, Betty.
Beryl’s family thanks Evergreen Estates III for their loving care and are also thankful for the support of the Hospice of Mercy.

Survivors include a niece, Gayle Klouda of Iowa City, two nephews, Wayne Vavrichek of Seattle, Washington and Bruce Vavrichek of Silver Spring, Maryland, a sister-in-law, Louise Vavrichek of Iowa City, three grand nieces and three grand nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clare and Leo Vavrichek.
Evelyn was born on June 1, 1911 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Lewis and Tillie Witousek Vavrichek. Evelyn was a clerk at Montgomery Ward and later at Killians, retiring from there after several years of service. Memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Mercy in Evelyn's name.

Jennie Irene Stastny, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, July 5, 2010 in her home. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. William B. Harnish. Interment: Czech National cemetery. A visitation will be held at the Westside Chapel on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
Survivors include her children, Steve Stastny, Sandra Brekke, and Jenine Beltz, all of Cedar Rapids, and Frank (Gayla) Stastny III of Newhall; sister, Lillian Houser of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Dusty, Robbie, Leonard, Nicole, and Holly; and great grandchildren, Hayden, Brad, Hailey, Michael, James, Trent, Alyssa, Evan, Olivia, and Samantha. She was preceded in death by parents, Michael and Irene Dmitruk; husband, Frank; son, Michael; sister, Helen; and brother, Henry.
Jennie was born in Cedar Rapids on March 23, 1924 and graduated from McKinley High School. Jennie married
Frank Stastny on April 25, 1947. She worked at Bordens Ice Cream Factory, the telephone company, and ORC & B. She started at the Post Office in 1966 where she was the first female letter carrier in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1988 after 23 years.
Jennie enjoyed going to bingo and the casinos. She had a positive attitude through all her adversities and will be greatly missed.
