Beatrice L. Thomas, 84, of Manor Care died there on Tuesday Aug. 28, 2007 of COPD. Services at 11 AM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Laura Smith will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include two daughters, Robin Timus Galli, Judy Gordon and a son, John Kathy Thomas all of Cedar Rapids; three sisters Jeanette Bob Elgin of Center Point, Lela Keith Reif and Arlene Thomas all of Cedar Rapids, and a brother, Bob Bowler Jr. of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Scott Deb Rathjens of Whittier, David Stephanie Rathjens of Hilliard, OH., Dan Jessica Gordon of Robins, Shelley Tom Martin of Bernard, Mindy Rathjens of Eldridge, Lisa Cook of Cedar Rapids, Jennifer Gordon and her significant other, Tim Maher, of Hamburg and Shane Thomas of Cedar Rapids; fourteen great grandchildren, Autumn Rathjens of Whitter, Jake, and Lauren Rathjens of Hilliard, OH, Madison, Cole, and Seyla Gordon of Robins, Dalton Breckenridge, Payton Akers and Baleigh Martin of Bernard, Ashley and Brittney Cook of Cedar Rapids and Morgen, Masen, and Macket Nelson of Hamburg, a brother-in-law, Earl Pat Thomas of Cedar Rapids and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, in-laws, Edwin and Myrtle Thomas, brother, George Bowler, sister-in-law, Earlene Bowler, brothers-in-law, Lamont Thomas and Racine Thomas, nieces, Susie Elgin and Janice Hughes.
Beatrice was born on March 5, 1923 in Minneapolis, MN., the daughter of Robert and Dora Furman Bowler Sr. She married
Edwin H. Thomas Jr. on Aug. 7, 1943 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1980. Beatrice was a homemaker. She did volunteer work at St. Lukes Hospital for over 35 years and Meals on Wheels for 2 years. She was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church and the Eagles Club. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, bowling and time spent with her beloved family, especially her grand and great grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established in Beatrice's name.

Kelly James Tharp, 47, of McAlister, Oklahoma formerly of Cedar Rapids died Sunday, September 9, 2007 at the Oklahoma State University Medical Center following a brief illness. Services: 11:00 A.M. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories on Friday from 10AM to 11AM. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. The Rev. Tom Carver of the Shueyville United Methodist Church will officiate.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Penny and David Axline of Solon; his father, James Tharp of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; his grandmother, Dorothy Boulcott of Morro Bay, CA; two sisters, Stacey Riccio of Dubuque and Jennifer Dennis of Cedar Rapids; a step-sister, Shelley Cervantes of Cedar Rapids; a step-brother, Jeff Axline of Cedar Rapids; and a longtime companion, Gail Farrell of McAlister, OK.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandfather.
Kelly was born October 8, 1959 in Des Moines. He lived in Cedar Rapids the majority of his youth. He served in the U.S. Army and in the U.S. Air Force. Kelly worked in construction and contracting in Oklahoma. He loved music, the guitar, his family and friends.
Isabelle Carleen Turbett

Isabelle C. Turbett, 95, of Tama, died September 18, 2007 at Manor Care Center, Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Oak Hill cemetery in Tama, Iowa. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include daughter Shirley A. Johnston and husband Lyle of Hiawatha, sister Ann Murray and husband Harold of Waterloo, sister Shirley Melugin of Fredericksburg, as well as 3 grand daughters, and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her parents, and 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Isabelle Carleen Turbett was born July 14, 1912 in Fredericksburg, Iowa, the beloved daughter of John and Rosa Hruska Mikes. She was united in marriage to Harold G. Turbett on August 26, 1933 in Waterloo. For 33 years she was a partner with her husband at Turbett Insurance in Tama. She played an integral role in the success of the business. She was a member of the Tama Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Isabelle's name to Camp Courageous, or the charity of the donor's choice.
Dennis Jon Tibben

Dennis J. Tibben, 67, of Cedar Rapids, died October 24, 2007 at the Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, due to complications of Huntington's Disease. Funeral Services: 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Concordia Lutheran Church. Rev. Jerry Doellinger will officiate. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM, Friday, October 26, 2007 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
Survivors include wife Judy, daughter Tina M. Pinney and husband Eugene of Cedar Rapids, son Monty L. Tibben of Cedar Rapids, grandsons Parker and Austin Pinney of Cedar Rapids, and a sister Toni DeClercque of South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Hazel Tibben, and a sister Marlys Felt.
Dennis Jon Tibben was born October 10, 1940 in Adair County, Iowa the beloved son of John and Hazel Long Tibben. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy as a Seabee from 1958 to 1961, and served as a reserve until 1992. He was united in marriage to Judith K. Chambers on November 12, 1960 in Des Moines. He worked as a Supervisor for Qwest from 1966 to 1993. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church where he was greatly involved and held many church offices. He was also involved with the Toastmaster's organization, and enjoyed flying. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, and will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved him.
The family requests donations are made to the memorial fund established in Dennis' honor.

Laurine Kathryn Taylor, 90, of 3031 Canton Drive SE in Cedar Rapids died Sunday, January 6, 2008 at her home following a sudden decline in her health during a determined battle with cancer. Graveside Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 14th at Mt. Calvary cemetery. The Rev. Mark Osterhaus of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church will officiate. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry of Salt Lake City, Utah and Tom of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, George N. Taylor, in 2003.
Laurine was born to John and Clara Badding in Urbana, Iowa on February 21, 1917. After graduating from St. Patrick’s High School and Cedar Rapids Business College, she was employed at Hawkeye Lumber Company until her marriage on August 16, 1941. She moved to her home on Canton Drive at that time and became a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. In the intervening years she raised her family and was a dedicated homemaker while greatly enjoying the nearby wildlife and outdoors in this hilly, wooded part of town. She was an active member and served as an officer in the Marion Chapter of TOPS since joining the group in 1970. Friends and family will remember her love of flower gardening, careful craftsmanship, and fascinating collection of owl figurines. Those experiencing her loss will miss her inspirational attitude in meeting life’s challenges while being a supportative companion and loving mother.

Richard G. Thompson, 79, of 5707 East cemetery Rd, SW, died Saturday January 12, 2008, surrounded by his family in his home after a long illness. Services: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. Mike Townsley. Visitation will be on Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel from 4-7 P.M. Burial: Fairfax cemetery, Fairfax.
Survivors include his wife Nadine, his children, Roger Carol Thompson of Ely, Mark Doni Thompson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Scott Thompson of Coralville and Bill Becky Thompson of Marion, 8 grandchildren, Amanda, Adam, Alyssa, Rachel, Kendra, Nolan, Angela, and 2 great grandchildren, Cory and Kayleen.
His parents, a brother, Fred and 2 sisters, Ruth and Clara preceded him in death.
Richard was born April 16, 1928 in Creston, Iowa, the son of Guy and Lillian Thompson. He married
Nadine Tate on June 2, 1957 in Cedar Rapids. He served in the Navy during World War II. Richard had worked for Smulekoff’s. He farmed in southwest Cedar Rapids for many years. After retiring from farming he was a driver for the Grant Wood Area Educational Agency. He enjoyed mall walking, eating out with family and friends and his favorite, spending time with his grandchildren. Richard was known for his enjoyable sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Sandra K. Tish, 63, of Cedar Rapids, died March 21, 2008 in her home following a sudden illness. Survivors include her daughters Tammy Christensen of Cedar Rapids, and Chris Smith of Arkansas; her sons Larry Smith and wife Michelle of Iowa City, and Doug Smith of Utah; her grandchildren Brian Smith, Amber Smith, Thomas Christensen, and Joseph Parr; brothers Harold Hunter of Iowa City, Alva Hunter of Cedar Rapids, and Marvin Hunter of Iowa City; sisters Darlene Youngman of Montana, and Linda Vermace of Iowa City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Larry L. Smith and Dale Tish; brothers Ron Hunter, Robert Hunter, and Kenneth Hunter and sister Joy Halstead.
Sandy was born June 13, 1944 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of Alva and Doris Augustine Hunter, Sr. She was married
to Larry L. Smith who preceded her in death, and later married
Dale Tish who also preceded her in death. She worked as a bar tender for many years throughout the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City communities, retiring from the VFW in Iowa City. She enjoyed cooking for her friends, being outside and enjoying the summertime, and above all her family.
