Willis Gail Wilson, 81, 1143 O Ave NW died Saturday, January 10, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital following a brief illness. Services: 10:00 A.M. Saturday at St. James United Methodist Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Friday at Turner East Funeral Home and Crematory. The Rev. Susan Detwiler of St. James United Methodist Church will officiate.
Survivors include two sons, Gregory Knight Wilson of Crawfordville, Florida and Douglas Gail Wilson of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Wanda Bradner of Clearwater, Florida and Rae Smith of Mandeville, Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife June, a brother Russell, and a sister Marilyn Cook.
Willis was born November 15, 1922 in Lamont the beloved son of William and Pearl Durham Wilson. He married
June Marie Jenks on June 15, 1947 in Lamont. She passed away on July 25, 1997. Willis was a funeral director at Cedar Memorial and Turner Funeral Homes for 36 years. He was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, a 50 year member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association, St. James United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of the American Legion Hanford Post #5, a 50 year member of the V.F.W. #788, a 50 year member of Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge #263, the Cedar Rapids Consistory, the El Kahir Shrine, the El Kahir 101 Unit, the Cedar Rapids Chapter #184 Order of Eastern Star, and a 50 year member licensed funeral director. He was a 1946 graduate of the St. Louis College of Mortuary Science and served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during WW II. Willis was very involved in activities involving his church and the masons and shrine. He enjoyed spending time gardening, bird watching, traveling, and conducting genealogical research.

Dean Arthur Vogt

Dean A. Vogt, 78, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at St. Luke’s Living Center West. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at First Congregational UCC, Cedar Rapids. Rev. David Hohmann will officiate.
Survivors include his wife Joyce of Cedar Rapids; children Daniel (Gretchen) Graves of San Carlos, CA, Lynette (Greg) Boheman of Monticello, IA, and Jennifer (Mark) Phillips of Des Moines, IA; and grandchildren Allen Boheman, Tylor Boheman, Joshua Graves, Margot Graves, and Teag Phillips.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Mabel Vogt and his wife Kathryn.
Dean was born December 5, 1931 in Council Bluffs, the son of Arthur and Mabel (Dau) Vogt. He married
Joyce Ruth Huenemann on July 2, 1976 in Cedar Rapids. Dean was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a general contractor and owned and operated Dean Vogt & Co.

Joseph L. Vandewalle, 88, of 2854 13th Ave SE, passed away Monday, November 8, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday in All Saints Catholic Church. Father David O’Connor and Father Matthew Vandewalle will officiate. Burial with military honors in St. John’s cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a wake service beginning at 5 PM, also visitation at the church after 9:30 AM on Thursday.
Surviving to honor his memory are his wife of 60 years Bernadine “Bernie”, a son Patrick (Paula) of Vinton, a daughter Mary (Tom) Tharp of Cedar Rapids, six grandchildren, Shannon, Sean, Nichole, Derek, Amanda, and Madison, four great grandchildren, Tristen, Caleb, Morgan, and Peyton, and two sister in laws, Arzella Vandewalle of Hastings, Nebraska, and Monica Heitgen of Salem, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents Constantine and Mary (Brennan) Vandewalle, and four brothers Bernard, Vincent, James, and Constantine Jr.
Joseph was born April 25, 1922 in Albion, Nebraska. He served in the US Army during WW II. He married
Bernadine Heitgen on May 29, 1950 in Salem, South Dakota. He was employed by Rockwell-Collins in finance for 28 years, and was a contract review person for the Department Of Defense retiring in 1994. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodworking, listening to music, had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends especially his grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church, or to Hospice of Mercy.

Sidney K. Vaughan, 87, of the MethWick Community, formerly of Mt. Vernon, went to be with the Lord at Mercy Medical Center, Monday, April 18, 2011. Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Church of the Nazarene by the Rev. Timothy Carter. Inurnment: Mt. Vernon cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the church after 12 p.m. Thursday. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, David and Warren Vaughan.
Sidney was born July 31, 1923 in Chicago to William and Maude Vaughan. He graduated from high school in Glen Ellyn, IL, received a BS degree in music from VanderCook College in Chicago, and an MS degree in education from Northern Illinois State University. He taught public school band, was a high school counselor in Indiana and was a vocational counselor and audio visual specialist at Cornell College for several years until he opened a TV sales and service store in Solon and later in Newhall. He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946 and was a member of the Mt. Vernon American Legion Post. Sidney married
Charlotte Allaben, daughter of Max and Flora Allaben in Glen Ellyn, IL on April 13, 1946.
Early in his career he had been a railroad agent with the CB&O; railroad in Illinois. One of his hobbies was donating and installing telegraph displays at several railroad depot museums including Ushers Ferry Pioneer Village where he was a volunteer host. He loved and gave time to his family, his church, and to the Gideons.
Memorials may be given to the First Church of the Nazarene or to the Gideons.
Cornelius Voehl

Cornelius Voehl, 90, formerly of Ottumwa, died at West Ridge Care Center, Friday, June 3, 2011. Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
Cornelius is survived by a daughter, Georgia and husband, John Fuoto of Newhall; cousin, Susanne Myres of Palo; friend Leila Kirkhart of Ottumwa and his beloved pet, Snoopy. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Eula, and sister Eleanor Peters.
Cornelius was born October 19, 1920 to John and Laura Langton. He married
Eula Street in Cedar Rapids on February 1, 1946. She died in 2000. He was a meat inspector for the United States government until his retirement in 1980.
Cornelius was a member of the American Legion, NARFE, Izaak Walton League, and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ottumwa. Cornelius was an Army veteran of WWII where he received the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He was an avid vegetable gardener and sold his vegetables at the Farmer's Market every year. He loved animals and volunteered at the Humane Society in Ottumwa. Cornelius was also a bell ringer for the Salvation Army.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra; stepson, Jeff (Deb) Evans; mother, Josephine Zacek; brother, Jim (Karen) Zacek, all of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Jim Evans of Marion; two grandchildren; and one great grand daughter. He was preceded in death by his father, sister, Judy and a brother, Dick.
Tony was born August 18, 1942 in Cedar Rapids to Joe and Josephine Zacek. He was retired from the City of Cedar Rapids Streets Department.
