Leona M. Vavricek, 85, of Dubuque, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, December 14, 2004, in the Stone Hill Care Center in Dubuque following a long illness. Funeral Mass at 9 AM Saturday in All Saints Catholic Church. Father David Ambrosy will officiate. Burial in Czech National cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 3 to 5 PM on Friday, and at the church after 8:30 AM on Saturday.
Survivors include two step-sons Dennis Vavricek and wife Linda of Peosta, Iowa, and Elmer Vavricek and wife Molly of Gardner, Kansas, a daughter Joellyn Washburn of New Jersey, two sisters Agnes Litz of Hartington, Nebraska, and Elsie Habere of Red Oak, Iowa, two brothers Len Feldhacker of LeMars, Iowa, and Vern Feldhacker of Scottsdale, Arizona, and four grandchildren, Tim Vavricek and wife Jill of Des Moines, Jennifer Gunderson and husband Aren of Fairbanks, Alaska, Andrew and Cara Vavricek both of Gardner, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Clarence Feldhacker, her first husband Quenton Washburn whom she married
in 1944 and died in 1966, and her second husband Elmer F. Vavricek whom she married
September 16, 1972 in Cedar Rapids, and died December 17, 2002.
Leona was born September 24, 1919 in Nebraska to Peter and Rose Feldhacker.
Leona was an accountant for Suburban Lumber Company for 10 years retiring in 1981. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center, and very active in synchronized swimming at Thomas Park in the 1960's. She enjoyed Boston Terriers and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

James B.Vernon, 74, of Dubuque, formerly of Marion died Monday, December 13, 2004 at his home of lung cancer. Services: 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Friends may call at the chapel one hour before the service. The Rev. Dennis Govier will officiate.
Born May 21, 1930 in Bartley, West Virginia to William L. and Lula Trent Vernon. He married
Jereldine Leuenberger on September 2, 1979.
He is survived by his wife, Jereldine Vernon of Dubuque; two sons, James Jr. of Painesville, Ohio and Michael of Fort Washington, Wisconsin; two daughters, Barbara Vernon Ryan of Denver, Colorado and Chrystal Lamberto of Des Moines; two stepsons, Robert D. and wife Maureen Leuenberger and Rick D. and wife Teresa Leuenberger all of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren and four step-grandchildren, Heather Parbs and husband Mike of Urbana, Erica, Reece and Chelsea Leuenberger all of Cedar Rapids; and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Glenn and William; and a sister, Lucille.
He served in the Air Force for ten years. Jim was employed with H & W Motor Freight in Cedar Rapids and Dubuque, retiring in 1997. He attended the United Methodist Church in Hazel Green, Wisconsin.

: Hal C. Vaughn, 50, of North Liberty, died Saturday, August 14, 2004, at the Clarinda Iowa Treatment Complex following a courageous battle with Huntington's Chorea Disease. Memorial services at 3 PM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Karen Beals will officiate. His family will receive friends from 2 PM to service time at the Chapel. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Pamela of North Liberty, two sons, Terry Vaughn and wife Kim of Mt. Vernon, and Chad Vaughn of North Liberty, two grandsons, Dustin Albrecht Vaughn of West Branch, and Alex Vaughn of North Liberty, stepmother Joyce Vaughn of Eldon, two brothers John M. Vaughn of Muscatine, and Tony Vaughn and wife Cindy of Cedar Rapids, one sister Roxanne Bekaert and husband David of Nebraska, and one stepbrother Les Paris and wife Kim of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents John W. and Darlene, grandparents John J. and Margaret, and two brothers Keith and Dennis.
Hal was born September 7, 1953 in Cedar Rapids the son of John W. and Darlene Vaughn. He married
Pamela Bruce on September 22, 1972 in Cedar Rapids. Hal worked at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City for over 20 years.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Hal's name for Huntington's Chorea Disease Research in care of the family.

Ward M. Vanderpool, of 374 Parkland Dr. SE. and Toronto, Canada died Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Mr. Vanderpool was born in Oakland, MO., the son of Oscar and Clara McGuire Vanderpool. He received his masters in electrical engineering from Tulane University. He married
Lee Kendall on July 7, 1939 in Omaha, NE. She died in 1999. Mr. Vanderpool was the vice president in charge of sales at Van Lang Brokerage in Los Angeles from 1934 to 1938 and was the manager of the Agricultural Division of the Dayton Rubber Co. in Chicago from 1939 to 1948. Most recently Mr. Vanderpool was the general manager of Vee Mac Co. in Rockford, Ill., the president and director of Zipout Inc. in Rockford, Ill.; Wife Savers Products Inc.; Chairman of the Board of Zipout International; Kenyan Inc.; Shevan Corporation; Atlas International Corp.; president of Global Enterprises Ltd., Global Associates Ltd., Chairman of the Board of Directors of American Atlas Corp.; Atlas Chemical Corp.; Merzat Industries Ltd.; trustee of Ice Crafter Trust; Board of Directors of Atlas Chemical International Ltd.; Kenlee International Ltd. And Shrimp Tool International Ltd. Mr. Vanderpool was a member of Toronto board of Trade, Chairman of the Board of Directors of American Atlas Corp., American Packaging Corp.; he was also a member of the advisory board of the National Security Council, the Advisory Committee of the Heritage Foundation; the Republican National Committee; Presidential Task Force; Congressional Advisory Committee; honorary member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame; the National at large Director of Rock River Marketing Past President; sales executives, Sales and Marketing Executives International; Director of American Management Association; Rockford Engineering Society, American Institute Management; American Ordnance Association, International Platform Association; the Heritage Foundation, Jesters Club, IAA Swim Club, Elmcrest Counry Club, Pyramid Club, Dolphin Club, Marlin Club, University Club, Athletic Club, Oxford Club, Masons Consistory, Shriner, Elks Club, Who's who in the Midwest, the World and Finance in Industry.

Kenneth L. Vanous Sr, of 105 Alwine Ct. Hiawatha, died Sunday, December 28, 2003, in his home following a long illness. Kenneth was born April 27, 1930 in Cedar Rapids to Leo and Frances Sharp Vanous. He married
Charlene Willenborg on April 27, 1950 in Cedar Rapids. He was assistant chief of Police in Cedar Rapids retiring after 19 years. He retired as Corporate Security Director of Iowa Electric-Alliant Energy, and then was a salesman for Skogman Reality. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and was a member of VFW Post No 788. He was also a member of First Christian Church, Chiefs of Police Association, Iowa State Policeman's Association, Cedar Rapids Policeman's Protective Association, Otter Creek Sportsman's Club, NRA, Goodfellows, 1500 Stock Club, and the Stock Investment Club. He loved his winters in Arizona. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gambling, traveling, and golfing.

Jack R. VanderWeg, 73, of Colorado Springs and a former resident of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday at the Mt. St. Francis Nursing Center in Colorado Springs, following a short illness. Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Lovely Lane United Methodist Church by Rev. Brian Milford officiating. Private burial will take place prior to the memorial service at the church. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Surviving are two daughters, Sue Robbins Jeffrey and their children, Jeffrey II, Patrick, Linda and Jessica and Linda O'Brine Michael and their children Cara and Sean. Also surviving are six sisters, Delores Paige Buerger of Monona, Iowa, Jacqueline Alton Korsvik of Prosser, Washington, Devon Bud Schab of Villah, Washington, Betty Leonard Blaak of Kennewick, Washington, Wanda Thompson of Kennewick, Washington and Judy Casey Cummings of Renton, Washington and a brother, Robert Shirley Kleinow of Tillamook, Oregon, and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was born July 26, 1928 in Victorville, California to John and Ethel Coates VanderWeg and was married
to Donna Rae Johnson on July 18, 1953 in Cedar Rapids. She preceded him in death in 1995. He lived his formative years in Postville, Iowa, graduating from Postville High School, Class of 1946. He joined the Navy right out of high school and attended one year at the University of Iowa. He was formerly employed by Hawkeye Seed Company and then Armstrong's Department Store in men's clothing for 38 years prior to his retirement.
He was a charter member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church and then at the Sunrise United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs after moving there in 1992.
Friends may, if they wish, make memorial contributions to the Lovely Lane United Methodist Church.
Vera Alberta Vanous

Vera Alberta Vanous, 98, of Westridge Care Center passed from this life into her eternal home Wednesday February 27, 2002 at the care center following a long illness. Services: 10:30 A.M. Saturday at Turner Chapel East where friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Friday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. The Rev. Robert Pleiness of Good News Baptist Church will officiate.
Vera was a loving mother and grandmother to two daughters, Patricia Thompson of Cedar Rapids and Karen Winter of Conyers, Georgia; six grandchildren, Kathleen Wilkey, Debra Mead, David McCalley and wife Donna, Suzanne Kurka and husband David, Kristin Winter, and Matthew Winter; great grandchildren, Trevor, Thaddeus, Jeremy and wife Laurie, Jennifer and husband Brian, Benjamin, Matthew, Sean, Melinda, and Trent; and great great grandchildren, Maura, Madison, Samuel, and Nathaniel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edward; a daughter Virginia in 1942, four brothers and two sisters.
Vera was born February 22, 1904 in Marengo the beloved daughter of William and Katharina Getlin Brown. She married
Edward J. Vanous on March 14, 1923 in Cedar Rapids, a union that lasted for 60 years until Edward's death in 1983. Vera was past president of the Fillmore Elementary PTA, was president of the Iowana Council of Campfire for 3 years, was a member of the Regional Executive Board of Campfire for 6 years, and was on the National Council of Campfire for 3 years. She was a Bluebird, Campfire, and Horizon club leader for several years; was a life member of Iowa State P.T.S.; Senior Vice President of Ladies Auxiliary WW I Veteran's; served on the Executive Board of the United Way for three years, was a charter member of Four Square Gospel Church; taught Sunday school for over 50 years; and recently was attending Good News Baptist Church.
Vera will be fondly remembered for her love of God, her love and commitment to family and friends, and her untiring zest for life.
A memorial fund has been established.
