Born in O'Brien County, Iowa on August 31, 1937

Sharon K. Wolter, 71 of Cedar Rapids, died Friday morning at St. Luke’s Hospital following a short illness. A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, December 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Private family burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may visit Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday and at the chapel after 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Sharon is survived by her three children, two daughters, Kristi Vaile and husband Mike of Williamsburg, Iowa, Carrie Wolter of Seattle, and her son Buck Wolter and wife Nikki of St. Louis, a sister Cleo Tilton and husband Dick of Carroll, Iowa and three grandchildren, twin granddaughters, Nicole and Kelsey Vaile of Williamsburg, Iowa and Peter Wolter of St. Louis. She is also survived by many relatives in northwest Iowa. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Lois Kaiser.

Sharon was born August 31, 1937 in O’Brien County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Iva (Iverson) Kaiser. She graduated from Dubuque University and Buena Vista College with a degree in Education and received her master’s degree from Iowa State University. Sharon was a dedicated teacher for more than 40 years and a life long educator. She taught English and Social Studies for over 15 years in the Fort Dodge Community School District where her passions were children’s literature and writing in the classroom. She continued her career and was principal at Center Point/Urbana Middle School and finished her career at Coe College as an adjunct professor. She was past president of the Iowa Association of Middle Level Educators and taught for the Iowa Writers Project. Sharon volunteered at the Czech and Slovak National Museum and at the Community Free Clinic in Cedar Rapids. She was a big supporter of Vice President elect Joe Biden who knew Sharon on a first name basis. Sharon was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling and decorating her home. She enjoyed cooking, family get-togethers and especially having everyone home for the holidays.

Friends, if they wish, may donate to Save the Children, 54 Wilton Road, Westport, CT 06880 in memory of Sharon.

Lois Arlene Wilson

Lois Arlene Wilson, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, February 20, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long illness. She had recently resided at the Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha. Services at 11 AM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Dave Higdon will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Monday in Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Tuesday.
Lois is survived by her sons Alan (Tracey) of Naperville, IL, and David (Paula) of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Ryan, Brenton, Hillary, Douglas, Eric (Amanda), and Lance (Nicole) Wilson; five great-grandchildren, Avery, Gabrial, Brynn, Hannah, and Nadean; brother Melvin “Mike” Roup of DePere, WI, and former daughter in law Julie Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lester and Mary Lund Roup; her husband Donald Edward; brothers Donald and Robert Roup, and a sister Dorothy (Homer) Emerson.
Lois was born August 6, 1923 in DeWitt. She graduated from Lisbon High School where she proudly played on the Girls Basketball team for three years. She married Don E. Wilson on January 18, 1945, at the Methodist Church in Low Moor, IA. She was a homemaker most of her adult life and worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids during and after WWII as an assembler/test technician. Lois enjoyed sewing and knitting. After the death of her husband, she especially enjoyed going to senior luncheons and dances at the Hiawatha Community Center with special friends.
The family would like to express sincerest appreciation to Dr. Mary Anne Nelson, the staff of Promise House in Hiawatha, the Hiawatha Care Center, St. Luke’s 5 East, and St. Luke’s Hospice for the excellent care they provided to their Mother/Grandmother during her illness.

Horst A. Zahn
Born in Readlyn, Iowa on January 14, 1925
Departed on November 7, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Horst A. Zahn, 79, 3818 C Ave NE died Sunday, November 7, 2004 at Northbrook Manor following a long illness. Services: 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 PM to 8 PM Wednesday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. The Rev. Jim Adix will officiate.
Surviving in addition to his wife Virginia are two sons, Thomas Zahn and his wife Becky and David Zahn and his wife Suzanne all of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Annette Titera of Cedar Rapids; and two grandchildren, Bianca and Trever.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Horst was born January 14, 1925 in Readlyn the son of Karl and Selma Mertens Zahn. He married Virginia Cline on October 29, 1950 in Oelwein. He was an accountant at Iowa Electric Light and Power from 1950 to 1984. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the V.F.W. #788. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. "Say?I've got a question" was a line he used that everyone knew him from.
Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Conlon Gregory White
Born in Cedar Rapids, IA on July 27, 1992

Conlon Gregory White, 16, of 2745 Virginia Dr. SE, Cedar Rapids, passed away at his home Saturday, March 7, 2009. Visitation is Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church from 4 to 8 p.m., with a vigil service at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass is Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Conlon was born July 27, 1992, in Cedar Rapids. He attended All Saints Elementary, Regis Middle School and Xavier High School.

He loved sports and participated in football, baseball and basketball, just completing his sophomore basketball season.

Conlon was known for his wonderful sense of humor, his kind heart, ingenuity and zest for life. He was a friend to everyone and was a devoted big brother to his little sister, Anna.

Survivors include his parents, Anne White and Gregory White; a beloved sister, Anna White, all of Cedar Rapids; grandparents, Spencer and Bettie Schonher; and aunts, uncles and cousins, Janet (Ken) Franks, Harry White, Jenny (Ross) Olson, Kayla and Noah Olson, Christopher Franks, Andy (Lori) Franks, Gary Conlon, Katie (John) Fasselius, Elizabeth and Charles Conlon, Catherine (James) Giese, Michael (Shannon) and Lily Giese, Daniel and Carolyn Giese, Marna (Mark) Sullivan, Kara (Nick) Klenske, Erin (Joseph) Powell, Matthew Sullivan, Lynn (Jack) McCullough, Dylan McGuill, Bridget and Pat McCullough, Kevin (Kathy) Conlon, Natalie and Alex Conlon, Daniel (Jennifer) Conlon, Luke (Nancy) Conlon, William, Carolyn, Joshua Conlon, Mark (Amy) Conlon, and Mae and Ella Conlon.

Conlon was preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald and Anna Mae Conlon and Glenn White; and aunt, April White.

Edward L. Wisgerhof

Edward L. Wisgerhof, 79, of 2170 49th Street, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, in Linn Manor Care following a long illness. Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will officiate. Inurnment in St. Paul’s Columbarium. Visitation will be from 10 AM to 11 AM on Saturday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife Dolores, three sons Doug (Cathy) and children Laura (Adam) Humes, Scott (Alexa) Wisgerhof and daughter Simone; Gordon (Diane) son Matt, daughter Sara (Eric) Throener and daughter Caroline, 2 step-sons Chris (Steff) Jeffrey and children Dylan and Sam, and Mike (Wendy) Dawson and children Emma, Jack, and Christian: Martin (Nancy) and daughter Maria Wisgerhof; 2 sisters Dorthy Billman of State Center, Iowa, and Jean (Bob) Malecek of Justin, Texas, two sisters in law Joyce Wisgerhof of Urbandale, and Bernice Price of Marshalltown, He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jerry, two granddaughters Kimberly and Nicole, and a great grandson Ames.

Edward was born December 9, 1929 in Jasper County, Iowa to Tunis and Edna Miller Wisgerhof. He married Dolores Johnson on November 21, 1948 in Laurel, Iowa. He was an accountant for Nash Finch for 38 years, and a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, antiquing, sports, an avid Cubs fan, and spending time with his family.

His family wishes to thank the staff at Linn Manor Care for their personal care and spiritual guidance given to Ed, and also to St. Paul’s congregation for their prayers and concern.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Ruth C. Wirstlin Ledvina
Born in Tama, Iowa on June 7, 1925

Ruth C. Wirstlin Ledvina, 83, of Cedar Rapids joined the love of her life, Ed on April 19, 2009 after a short illness in the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services: 10 am Thursday, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church by the Rev. Phil Thompson. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 on Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.

Surviving are two daughters, Dilyn (Herb) McNeill of Vinton and Rhonda (Troy) Krumm of Lexington, Ky.; son, Scott (Jan) Ledvina of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren, Jaryn McNeill and special friend Neil Rodell, Justin, and Jennifer McNeill, Katie (Jason) Neal, Molly Krumm, and Matt, Chris, Billy, Donna, and Arissa Ledvina; special sister, Grace Holmes; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth was born June 7, 1925, in Tama, to Charles and Clara Wirstlin. She married Edward Ledvina on Jan. 18, 1945, in Tama. She was a school cook in Cedar Rapids School District for 29 years until her retirement in 1990.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was an avid cook and hard worker. Ruth treasured spending time with her grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.
