Esther Roberta Weygant, 91, passed away shortly after 4:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke’s Hospice . Her daughter, Kathy, with whom she had made her home for the past 13 years; son, Kenneth, Burlington; and niece, Jean Mustain, Wabasha, MN, were at her side when she died. Her body will be cremated, Cedar Memorial is making arrangements.
Born Nov. 14, 1918, in Henry County, the last of six children, she was the daughter of Charles A. and Malancy Jane Beaber Danielson. All preceded her in death.
On May 4, 1941, in Kahoka, MO, she married
Kenneth H. Weygant. He died Sept. 8, 1971. The couple had two children: Kenneth Prescott and Kathy Jane and one grandchild, Aaron Kenneth Alter.
She worked many years at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, retiring from government service as a property manager. After retirement she worked for the Burlington Chapter of the American Cancer Society She was active in The American Business Women’s Assn. for many years, serving as president of one of the Burlington chapters.
She loved to knit, dishcloths were her specialty in her later years. She worked crosswords and word searches to keep her mind active and she was a mean Scrabble player who took obvious pride in besting her opponents.
She is survived by her daughter and son; one grandchild, Aaron; several nieces and nephews.
She will be missed.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, at Brookview Senior Living, 2903 F Ave NW, Cedar Rapids. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Burlington.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.

Harmand Welden Weeks, 68, of 1220 34th Street NE, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at his home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 PM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Dr. Leonard Ranson of Cedar Hills Community Church will officiate. Burial with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
Harmand is survived by his wife Linda, two daughters, Loree Ann (Rob) Carter of Marion, and Cindy (Dave) Martin of Vinton, a son Sp4 Harmand (Chasity) Weeks of Ft. Lewis Washington, three brothers Ronald (Patricia) Weeks and William Weeks all of Ottumwa, and Leland (Sharon) Weeks of Floris, Iowa, two sisters Carol (Kenny) Sheldon of Ottumwa, and Constance Clarke of Silver Springs, Maryland, grandchildren, Joy (Jeramy) Fish of Urbana, Jeff Frost of Cedar Rapids, Jason (Leslie) Frost of Anamosa, Hunter and Caitlyn Martin of Vinton, Tyler and Thomas Weeks of Iowa Falls, Caleb, Courtney, and Colton Corrington all of Ft. Lewis, Washington, great-grandchildren William and Jordan Fish, Kaden Pickrell, and Hailey White, 18 nieces and nephews, 10 step-nieces and nephews, 46 great-nieces and nephews, and his faithful pet schnauzer Maximillion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Colbert and Eva Wheeler Weeks, sisters Bonnie Bolin, Charlotte Collins, and Colberta Penrod, sister in law Doris Weeks, brothers in law Hugh Clarke, William Bolin, and Richard Penrod, Niece Rhonda Weeks, Step niece Lebeth Carr, and nephews, Alan Weeks, Michael Clancy, Joseph Collins, Dennis Huff, and Jason Weeks.
Harmand was born April 14, 1942 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He married
Linda Lougee on December 28, 1963 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was a miller at Sunopta retiring in 2007. He retired from the US Navy as a cryptologist 1st Class Petty Officer. He was a member of Cedar Hills Community Church, the Fleet Reserve Association, Hawkeye Branch Unit 216. He loved to fish, garden, watch all forms of nature, grilling, sports, country music, and especially spending time with his family.

William Perry Whipple, 96, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at The Meth Wick Community. A celebration of William’s life will be held at Sinclair Auditorium on the campus of Coe College on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at 10:30 AM. Friends of William and members of the community are invited; a light lunch will follow in the Perrine Gallery located in Stewart Memorial Library. A private inurnment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Bill was born November 1, 1913 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the son of Milo R. and Jeanette Fry Whipple. He attended and graduated from Washington High School in 1932. He continued his education at Coe College and graduated in 1935. He met the love of his life, Gayle Schroder, while at Coe College and they were married
on September 18, 1937. She preceded him in death on November 10, 1996.
During his days at Coe he was honored to have been elected a member of Sachem, Senior Men’s Honorary Society and Pi Kappa Delta. He was a member of the track team and a member of the Coe College Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a lifetime Trustee of the College and served a Chairman of the Board for three years. In 1996 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities, and in 2001 was given Coe’s highest honor “The Founder’s Medal.”
Upon the death of his father in 1935, Bill continued the family insurance business and remained in the field for forty years. At the time of retirement he was Chairman of Frank B. Hall of Iowa. In 1974 he became associated with the Hall-Perrine Foundation, serving as Executive Director. He continued to serve the Foundation as President and was the present Chairman of the Board.
During Bill’s career he served on numerous boards. Among those were the American Federal Savings & Loan, the Nissen Corporation, Inter-Ocean Reinsurance Company, Banks of Iowa Inc., Mid America Mutual Fund and American Insurance and Industrial Fund. He also served on the boards of The Fire Mark Circle of the Americans, The Iowa Association of Insurance Agents, and the B.L. Wick Foundation.
His leadership was essential as a founding member of The Meth Wick Community, where he has lived for the last twenty years. He served on the boards of the Cedar Rapids Library, Cedar Rapids Marion Chamber of Commerce, the American Red Cross and the Greater Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Y.M.C.A.
As acknowledgement of his service to the community, he was the recipient of many awards which included the John M. Ely, Sr. Outstanding Layman Award, The Community Recognitions Award from the Cedar Rapids Marion Chamber of Commerce, and the first annual community service award given by the Downtown Rotary. In 2002 he was elected an honorary fire fighter by the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.
He had a great love for his family, friends, Coe College and the Cedar Rapids Community. He was grateful for the privilege of living in this city for his entire lifetime. He is survived by two sons: John W. Whipple and wife, Betty of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Dr. Robert M. Whipple and wife, Sandra of Wonder Lake, Illinois. John is a former resident of Cedar Rapids and is a retired school teacher. Robert is a retired teacher from New Trier Township High School in Winnetka, Illinois. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Lori, and three grandsons, Matthew, Keith and William III and his sister Dorothy Buss of Dubuque, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to Coe College, The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, The Meth Wick Endowment Fund or a charity of choice.
The family wishes to express particular appreciation to the Iowa Hospice and The Meth Wick Community Respite Care for the exceptional quality of services they provided to Bill during his long illness.

Mary E. Woods, 73, of 2340 27th St. in Marion died at her home on Sunday September 12, 2010 after an extended illness. Memorial services at 1:00 PM on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Chapel after 12:30 on Sat.
Survivors include one son, Scott of Marion, two daughters, Wendy Williams of Blue Springs, Missouri and Peggy Connell of Oak Harbor, Washington. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Tabitha, Nicole, Justin, Shawna and Danielle. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and two sisters.
Mary was born on November 23, 1936 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Rodney and Nellie Clark and graduated from McKinley High School in 1955. She married
John A. Woods on June 14, 1958 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 2006. Mary worked in food service at St. Lukes Hospital and later at the Linn County Home and the Linn County Jail.
Mary enjoyed playing games, cards, reading, traveling with her husband, and was an avid bingo player. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Ruth Ann Wyatt, 51, formerly of Rochester, Minnesota, died Tuesday September 14, 2010 in the V.A. Hospital in Iowa City following complications from surgery. Services: 2:00 p.m. Friday at Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4401 42nd St NE, where visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until service time. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Burial: Keokuk National cemetery in Keokuk Iowa.
Survivors include her mother, Shirley Bredeson of Hiawatha, a brother, Larry Bredeson of Hiawatha and a sister, Denise (Greg) Sasek of Hiawatha. Also surviving are niece and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Wyatt.
Ruth was born April 16, 1959 in Rochester, Minnesota, the daughter of Ronald and Shirley. She enjoyed shopping, computers, and wa very dedicated to her faith. Ruth also enjoyed spending time with her niece and nephews. She served in the military for over 10 years.
A memorial fund has been established by the family.
