BOLIN, LARRY B., 55, of 416 1/2 W. Lone Tree Rd. in Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Sunday, January 30, 2000, at the V.A. Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa of kidney failure from complications of an infection. He was born February 27, 1944 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Walter Fred and Lois Marie (Kohler) Bolin. Larry was a 1962 graduate of Cedar Falls High School, and received his business degree from the State College of Iowa (UNI) in 1966. He married Phyllis Gardner and they were later divorced. Larry served with the U.S. Army at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, Larry received his law degree from the University of Iowa. He married Rose Homan in 1972, and they were later divorced. Larry moved to Seattle, Washington where he was an attorney and principal broker and realtor for Advanced Properties. He moved to Tampa, Florida for a short time and returned to the Cedar Falls area in 1991. Larry was creator of Advance Advertising and Cedar Valley Gourmet Dining Coupons, and recently had been associated with Dyna-Mite Coupons. He enjoyed alpine hiking and most outdoor activities. His favorite destinations were Paradise on Mt. Rainer and Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic Mountains.
Survivors include his two brothers, Dr. Walter F. “Bud” Bolin of Seattle, Washington and David A. Bolin of Boulder, Colorado, and his three sisters, Karen A. Tiegen of Billings, Montana, Linda Hildebrand of Waverly, Iowa and Katherine M. Bolin of Portland, Oregon.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2000, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Cedar Falls, Iowa. There will be no visitation, his body was cremated. Memorials may be directed to the family, a memorial fund will be established at a later date.

BOXWELL, DR. LLOYD L. , 86, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, January 31, 2004, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. He was born June 11, 1917, in Martelle, Iowa, the son of William H. and Loretta (Eldred) Boxwell. Lloyd married Margaret Slater on May 11, 1941, in Ames, Iowa. She preceded him in death on October 17, 1992. He was a graduate of Iowa State University and was a veterinarian in Cedar Falls, Iowa for 40 years, retiring in 1982. Lloyd was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Cedar Falls Lions Club. Lloyd died Saturday, January 31, 2004, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, at 86 years of age.
He is survived by his son, Donald (Alice) Boxwell of Gilroy, California; two daughters, Roberta (Terry) Witkin of Mesa, Arizona and Sandra K. Bagnall of Harlow, Essex, England; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and his close friend, Mildred Banks, of Cedar Falls.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife and parents; two brothers, Willard and Lolen Boxwell; and a sister, Carmen Palmer.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 7, at First Presbyterian Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or the church.

BROOKMAN, LARRY E. was born December 10, 1943 in Flint, Michigan the son of Thuran and Mary (McReynolds) Brookman. He married Paulette Jaquis at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on August 20, 1964. Larry served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He was employed for 33 years at Standard Golf Company in Cedar Falls, most recently as Plant & Manufacturing Manager. Larry died Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at Sartori Memorial Hospital at 57 years of age.
Survivors include his wife, Paulette, of Waterloo; three sons, Curt of Waterloo, Iowa, Trent of Tripoli, Iowa, and Scott of Chicago, Illinois; one daughter, Pam Brookman of Waterloo, Iowa; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Robert and James, both of Waterloo, Iowa and Thuran Brookman, Jr. of Manhattan, Kansas; and one sister, Ruthann Jones of Waterloo, Iowa.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2001 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.

BROOKS, LEOLA EVANGELINE was born June 16, 1909 in Oelwein, Iowa the daughter of Frank and Lulu (Cotton) Perry. She attend Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Leola married Orval Brooks on August 22, 1928 in Waterloo, Iowa. She died Thursday, February 25, 1999 at the Western Home Martin Center, Cedar Falls, Iowa at the age of 89 years.
Survivors include two sons. Steven Brooks of Glen Ellyn, Illinois and David Brooks of Denver, Iowa, one daughter, Orvola Hoover of Phoenix, Arizona, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two brothers, Leland Perry of Waterloo, Iowa and Rollin Perry of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Leola was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Caroline Brooks and one brother, Milton Perry.
Private Family Memorial Services are being planned. Memorials may be given to the Western Home.

BRUHN, ELSIE O. FISHER, 82, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Sartori Memorial Hospital. She was born May 14, 1917 in Hudson, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Sena (Petersen) Christensen. Elsie married Alvin Fisher on January 18, 1939, at the Little Brown Church near Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death in September of 1971. She married Ernest Bruhn on January 24, 1976, in Hollywood, California. He preceded her in death in May of 1986. Elsie was a graduate of Hudson High School. She worked at Sartori Memorial Hospital and farmed near Hudson and Dike for many years. Elsie was a member of the Danish Sisterhood, WELCA, and Fredsville Lutheran Church.
Elsie is survived by her son, Jerry Fisher and his wife Lavelle of Moville, Iowa; her three daughters, Barbara Lovell and her husband Vernon of Cedar Falls, Dixie Maas and her special friend Harold Wilson of Quasqueton, Iowa, and Patricia Lovell and her husband Craig of Plano, Texas; three step-children, Jim Bruhn and his wife Donna of Cedar Falls, Larry Bruhn of New Hartford and Jane Christensen and her husband Chuck of Dike; nine grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; her brother, Elmer Christensen of Cedar Falls, and her sister, Alma Johnson of Reno, Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands;her parents; her brother, Earl Christensen; three sisters, Dagny Schmidt, Thora Nielsen Christensen and Agnes Fisher Minikus; her son-in-law, Herman Maas, and her step-daughter-in-law, Carol Bruhn.
Services: 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 27, 2000, at Fredsville Lutheran Church in rural Cedar Falls, with burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association and Fredsville Lutheran Church.

BRYHL, ANTON N. was born May 25, 1912 in Plainfield, Iowa the son of Paul Peter and Anna (Juhl) Bryhl. He died January 27, 2000 at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls, Iowa, at 87 years of age.
Tony is survived by one sister, Elna Hazelwood of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Emil Bryhl, and six sisters, Emma Bryhl, Marion Kristiansen, Margaret Bossom, Annette Noel, Augusta Rasmussen, and Agnes Skovlund.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 31, 2000 at Nazareth Lutheran Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church.

BUHRMASTER, BRITTA KAREN , 88, of Waterloo died Sunday, August 22, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center. Britta was born April 26, 1916, the daughter of Fred and Lillian (Carlson) Smith, at Des Moines, Iowa. She married Ralph K. Buhrmaster January 21, 1936, in Knoxville, Tennessee. He preceded her in death on September 2, 1966. She and her husband owned and operated Waterloo Prosthetic Co.
Britta is survived by her son, Stan (Jean) Buhrmaster of Janesville, Iowa; two grandchildren, Jacquelyn (Carl) Yokem of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Robert (Joanna) Swiatly of Cedar Falls, Iowa; four great grandchildren, Dylan Buhrmaster, Kody Bell, Abby and Sara Swiatly; one niece, Michelle (Martin) Gorgas of Des Moines, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Fred Smith Jr.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Interment will be at Garden of Memories in Waterloo, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family.

BUNN, MELDA ARLENE, 81, of Parkview Nursing & Rehab died Monday, March 3, 2003 at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa. She was born March 21, 1921 at Webster, South Dakota the daughter of Emil & Lula (Veritson) Jeske. She was united in marriage to Rueben Angerhofer in 1955 at Milbank, South Dakota. He died December 3, 1963. Melda was a domestic caretaker in South Dakota and in Waterloo.
Survivors include her son, Robert Parker of Oceana, California; two daughters, Melene Facciani of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Patsy (Herb) Brosz of Aberdeen, South Dakota; eight grandchildren, one great grandchildren; one brother, Roger Jeske of Webster; and three sisters, Betty (Wendell) Hesla of Webster, Jean Vannet of Rapid City, South Dakota and Bertha Timmerman of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Melda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and four sisters, Doris Kennedy, Adeline Rhode, Marilyn Jeske, and Deloris Hesla.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2003 at Cornerstone Fellowship Church. Memorials may be directed to the family.

BURCH, JOHN FRANKLIN was born on April 23, 1920 in Juneau, Alaska the son of William and Juanita (Shangle) Burch. He married Gertrude Lauterbach on October 11, 1961 in Cordova, Alaska. John was a commercial fisherman in Alaska. He died on Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa at 78 years of age.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude of Cedar Falls, Iowa, his son, Paul Burch of Waterloo, Iowa, his brother, Donald Burch of Cordova, Alaska and seven nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 5, 1999 at First Baptist Church in Cedar Falls with burial in Stout Cemetery, Stout, Iowa A memorial fund will be established.

BURGESS, WILLIAM R. was born November 23, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of William and Clara (Finnegan) Burgess. He married Helen Holtz on September 1, 1951 in Chicago. She preceded him in death on September 23, 1986. William served with the U.S. Army during WW II and was a television repairman for fifty years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Cedar Falls American Legion Post 237. William died Tuesday, October 29, 2002, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 82 years of age.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Burgess of Des Plaines, Illinois; his sister, Lucille Caraghar of Burbank, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.
William was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother, Robert Burgess.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2002 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, with burial at Dysart Cemetery in Dysart, Iowa. A memorial fund will be established.

BUTTS, LENORA LYDIA Bartz was born September 7, 1907 the daughter of Charles & Laura (Ross) Bartz on her parents farm near New Hampton, Iowa. She married William Bryan Butts November 6, 1930 at West Union, Iowa. Lenora spent most of her life as a mother and housewife until William’s death in April 1963. She then worked as nurse in Columbia, Hannibal and Mexico, Missouri and later at the Western Home in Cedar Falls, caring for the elderly. Lenora died Friday, May 21, 2004 at Windsor Nursing & Rehab Center in Cedar Falls at the age of 96 years.
Survivors include her son, Richard Allan (Ada) Butts of Palatka, Florida; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren; one brother, Edward (Lillian) Bartz of Rochester, Minnesota; and four sisters, Grace Bausman of Cedar Falls, Mabel Norton of Spring Park, Minnesota, Evelyn Dowd of Cedar Rapids, and Jean (Galen) Larsen of Sun City, Illinois.
Lenora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two sons, William Austin Butts and Curtiss Estel Butts; and three brothers, Walter, Carl, and George Bartz.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at St. John Lutheran Church with burial in Graceland Cemetery (New Hampton City Cemetery), New Hampton, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the church.

BYRNES, ROBERT 54, of Cedar Falls died Friday, May 28, 2004 at Sartori Memorial Hospital. He was born July 20, 1949 in Osage, Iowa the son of Erwin Bernard & JoAnne (Yager) Byrnes. He received his bachelor’s from UNI in 1971 and began teaching at UNI in 1972. In 1974 he received his master’s in Music. Bob worked in administration in the School of Music, was the campus carilloneur and the director of the UNI Men’s Varsity Glee Club.
Survivors include his mother, JoAnne Byrnes of Osage, Iowa; three brothers, James Byrnes of Pacific Beach, California, Mark (Candace) Byrnes of Oceanside, California, Casey Joseph Byrnes of Oakland, California; four sisters, Mary Catherine Byrnes of Buhl, Idaho, Patricia Jo Byrnes of Las Vegas, Nevada, Janet Marie (David) Wright of Dubuque, Iowa, and Jill Caroline (Kevin) Byrnes-Lange of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father.
Services were 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Waterloo with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the Les Hale Endowment Fund at the UNI Foundation.

CALEY, ELIZABETH “LIZ” ANGELINE, 72, of Cedar Falls died Thursday, April 20, 2000 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo of natural causes. She was born April 1, 1928 in Shell Rock, Iowa the daughter of Eppe and Emma (Miller) Arends. She was baptized July 1, 1928 at the Aplington Reformed Church and confirmed on April 18, 1943 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Allison. She graduated from Allison High School on May 15, 1946. She married D. E. “Red” Caley on July 21, 1947 at Brainerd, Minnesota. He preceded her in death on January 12, 1993.
Liz was happiest when she was cooking and baking, and cooked in some capacity all her professional life, including managing her own restaurant and later retiring after many years with U.N. I. Food Service.
She was an avid gardener, always growing enough vegetables to share with her family and friends. Liz loved music and enjoyed playing her harmonica and other musical instruments.
She is survived by one son, Norman Caley and his wife, Joyce, of Sumner; two daughters, Bonnie Hughes and her husband, Larry, of Cedar Falls, Cathy Green of Toledo; five grandchildren, Randy Hughes and his wife, Jennifer, Chris Hughes and his wife, Cindy, Richie, Chad, and Tangela Green; five great grandchildren, Zachary, Brendan, Katherine and Kaylee Hughes and Tristan Quail; one sister, Hilda Fick and her husband, William, of Oelwein; and one sister-in-law, Grace Arends of Janesville, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother, Edward Arends.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2000 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the family. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, was in charge of arrangements.
