Kathy Symonette
Kathy Ann Symonette, 78, of Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 1, 2011, at West Ridge Care Center following an extended illness. There was a memorial service to celebrate Kathy's life Sept. 9 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. There was a private burial in Swisher at Anderson Cemetery.
Local survivors include daughter Cindy (Paul) Hills of Swisher; and grandchildren Hunter, Annie, and Walker Hills.
Kathy Ann Symonette was born June 15, 1933, in Milwaukee, Wis., the daughter of Raymond and Kathleen (Simsrott) Shank. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin. Kathy worked as an insurance underwriter for 20 years with United Fire and Casualty..
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Camp Courageous.
Helen Axline
Helen J. Axline, 92, a resident of the Meth-Wick Community, died Sunday, April 22, 2012. Funeral services were held April 28 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Chaplain Kay Mineck of Meth-Wick officiated. Burial was at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Local survivors include her son, Dave (Penny) Axline of Solon and their children; Jeff (Janna) and their children, Ashley and Kelsey, Shelley (John) and their children, Justin and Isabella; Stacey (Rick) and their children, Christopher, Joseph and Stacia; and Jennifer (Mark) and their children.
Helen was born Feb. 4, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Anthony and Rose (Flidr) Novak. She was united in marriage to Francis C. Axline on April 3, 1941, in Cedar Rapids. She and Francis owned and operated West Side Sewing for many years. Francis preceded her in death in 2000.
She was formerly a member of Cedar Christian Church and attended church services at Meth-Wick.
Memorials in Helen's honor may be directed to the Meth-Wick chaplaincy program.
Evelyn Bevill
Evelyn Marie Bevill, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services were held April 22 at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West with the Rev. William Harnish presiding. Burial was at the Czech National Cemetery.
Local survivors include Joanne Popelka and Mark (Marlys Moses) Popelka, both of Ely.
Evelyn was born Nov. 26, 1921, in Cedar Rapids, the only child of Frank and Hilda (Melichar) Shramek. She was raised in Stumptown and married Joseph E. Bevill on Aug. 30, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. Evelyn had worked at Wilson and Co. meat packing plant, Witwer Bottling and retired in 1984 from being one of the lunch ladies at Wilson Junior High School.
Joe Coker
Joe Coker, 59, of Cedar Rapids, died at the University of Iowa Hospital on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Memorial Services were held May 2 at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Local survivors include his stepchildren, Theresa (Michael) Accola and Joel (Jill) Tresslar, of North Liberty.
Joe was born March 21, 1953, to Merle and Lucille Coker. He graduated from Marion High School where he was involved in track and wrestling. He received an associate degree in wastewater treatment from Kirkwood Community College and was employed by the Laborer's International Union of North America, Local #309.

Lawrence Hadrava
Lawrence C. (Larry) Hadrava, Sr., 71, of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville.
Larry was born on Oct. 15, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, a son of Jerry and Evelyn Hadrava. He married AnnaMae Flender of Ely on April 15, 1961. He worked as a flexographic printer at W.R. Grace, Cryovac Division in Cedar Rapids for 28 years. He retired and moved to Jacksonville in 1994. He was a devoted member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville.
Mr. Hadrava is survived by his wife of 50 years, AnnaMae; a son Larry Hadrava Jr. (Leah); three grandchildren, Amber Hadrava, Christopher Hadrava, and Karl Whitlow, and a wide circle of friends.
A memorial service in celebration of his life was held on March 18 at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Charlie Rumpel officiating.
Emma Pranskunas
Emma M. Pranskunas, 91, of Prairieburg, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass was held April 26 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairieburg by Father Wayne Droessler. Burial was at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Prairieburg.
Local survivors include nephew, Joseph (Jo) Hogarty of North Liberty.
Emma was born Nov. 18, 1920, to George and Magdalene Pranskunas, the eldest of three daughters. Emma graduated from Central City High School in 1938. After graduation, Emma worked at Iowa National Insurance and several offices in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1982.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society. As a young girl, Emma's immigrant parents from Lithuania relied on her to translate documents and navigate the English language for them.
A memorial fund has been established for St. Joseph Cemetery.
Raymond Schneider
Raymond "Rayzor Ray" Schneider, 53, died peacefully Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with brain cancer. Funeral services were held April 28 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Father Wayne Droessler officiated.
Local survivors include sister Rhonda (Scott) Smith of Ely.
Raymond Glen Schneider was born May 16, 1958, at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, the son of Marvin and Donna (Schmidt) Schneider. Ray graduated from the Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1976. He went on to the Cedar Rapids Barber College and then served his apprenticeship at Stan Rebicck Barbers in Marshalltown. He returned to Monticello in 1979 and took over his father's shop, Monti Barber Center. Ray married LuAnne Chappell on May 11, 1991, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. The couple operated Monti Barber Center together.

Shearon Contreras
Shearon Contreras, 85, of Iowa City and North Liberty, died Sunday, April 15, at Iowa City Care Center.
Family services are planned at a later date.
Shearon was born April 27, 1929, in New York, N, Y. She married Nicholas Contreras in Chicago, where they resided for many years. Shearon moved to Iowa in 2004 to be near family.
Survivors include her three children, Cynthia, Angelo and Gregory; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Ganos of Lake Villa, Ill., Shaila Hickey of Davenport and Stacie Ganos of Coralville; seven great grandchildren, Hailey, Emma, Nicolas, Sariyah, Tavien, Kallen and Kenley.
Shearon was preceded in death by her husband.
James Eden
James Eden, 87, of Lone Tree, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. A celebration of life was held April 20 at the Sorden-Lewis home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. Burial will be held at a later date.
James Edwin Eden was born on September 26, 1924, the son of Elmer and Lois (Neff) Eden in Lone Tree. He was a 1942 graduate of Lone Tree High School. James served in the United States Army from 1946 until 1947, attaining the rank of Corporal. On June 19, 1949, James was united in marriage to Shirley Mills at the First Christian Church in Iowa City. James was a farmer in the Lone Tree area his entire life.
Local survivors include Becky (Ron) Meyer of Solon.
A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of James.
