Lee Rempe
Lee Edward Rempe, 70, of Manchester, passed away at Regional Medical Center in Manchester on Friday, April 6, 2012, following a courageous battle with cancer. A Memorial Service with military rites was held April 14 at the United Methodist Church in Manchester, with the Rev. Mike Druhl officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.
He was born Feb. 27, 1942, in Oskaloosa, the son of Henry and Ruth (VanHouweling) Rempe. Lee grew up on a farm near Leighton, and graduated from Pella High School in 1960. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1964 to 1968.
On June 12, 1971, Lee was united in marriage to Kathy Anderson at the United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. Two daughters were born to this union. Together they resided in Manchester, where Lee was a high school English and humanities teacher at West Delaware Community Schools. He retired in 2002 from teaching.
Lee was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Local survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth (Ryan) Harvey of North Liberty.

K. Morris Richardson
K. Morris Richardson, 86, of Solon, died April 6, 2012, at the Lantern Park Care and Rehabilitation Center in Coralville, after a brief illness. Graveside services were held April 11 at the Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #191 of Webster City. A memorial service in Solon, at St. Mary's is pending.
Kenneth Morris Richardson, son of Carl and Cora Yates Richardson, was born July 7, 1925, on a farm near Homer. He received his education in the Webster City school system. In November of 1943, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Following his discharge in 1945, he returned to Webster City.
On Nov. 18, 1945, he married Ruth Maxine Kastler at Webster City. The couple resided in Webster City, where he was an officer in the Webster City Police Department. He also was a salesman for Baber Ford. In 1962 he started his own used car dealership, Richardson Auto Sales.
In 1973 he and Ruth moved to Solon to his dream home on the Coralville Reservoir. While in Solon he worked as a salesman in a hardware store and sporting goods store. Ruth died Jan. 3, 1979.
Morrie is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Woody Ewing of Allerton; Joyce and Doc Richardson of Eagan, Minn.; Janis O'Donnell of Houston, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Sally Richardson of Solon; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline Richardson of Webster City; sisters-in-law, Fern Richardson and Bette Richardson, both of Webster City; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Ellen O'Donnell; Burt, Norman (Sib) and Sterling (Todd) Richardson; sisters, Dorothy Bohlen, Helen Wehrheim and Frances Richardson; two brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law and two nieces.
He was a 60-year member of the Webster City American Legion Post #191 and Solon American Legion Post #460 and a dedicated Hawkeye fan. An avid fisherman he spent many hours on the Boone River, and hunting in Hamilton County and surrounding counties with his family and friends. He could fix anything that was broken. He was always there when his family needed him.
Memorials may be made to the Iowa City Hospice.

Luella Schlue
Luella Niebuhr Schlue, 103, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, April 9, 2012, at Higley Mansion. Services were held April 13 at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. David Miller. Interment was at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
She was born in rural Blairstown, the daughter of William and Johanna Kluss Niebuhr, on March 28, 1909. She married Vernon F. Schlue on June 28, 1930. He died on May 31, 1968.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Local survivors include Samantha (Mark) Ironside of Swisher.
Memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran School or Hospice of Mercy.

Don Sheldon
Don L. Sheldon, 83, of Oakland, Calif., died Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Piedmont Gardens in Oakland. Mr. Sheldon was born on May 3, 1928, in Indianapolis, Ind., the son of Raymond H. and Nellie H. (Pease) Stunkel. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Oakland. He was a Korean War veteran having served with the U.S. Army. He married Wilma Layton in Westport, Indiana on Jan. 28, 1951.
Local survivors include Nikolai Stalkfleet and Jonathan (Allison) Stalkfleet, all of North Liberty.
Funeral services were conducted on April 14 at Bass and Gasper Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald Stunkel officiating. Burial was at the Westport Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's organization of choice in memory of Don Sheldon Sr.

Luella Schlue

Hattie Spieker
April 23, 1920 - November 1, 2008
BRITT - Hattie M. Spieker, 88, of Britt, died Saturday (November 1, 2008) at her home.
Funeral services will be held 10 A.M., Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Britt with Rev. Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Wednesday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Hattie Marie Spieker, the daughter of Herman and Henrietta (Janssen) Daniels, was born April 23, 1920 at Iowa City, Iowa. She attended country school near Crystal Lake. On November 19, 1939, she was married to Leon Schreiber. They farmed near Hayfield for a time before moving to Humboldt. Leon passed away on August 31, 1947. On September 15, 1948, she was married to Lawrence Spieker. They farmed near Hayfield until retiring in 1973 and moving into Britt. Hattie cleaned homes in the Britt area and also took care of children in her home for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, quilting and collecting dolls.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt.
Hattie is survived by her four children, Dennis (Jodi) Spieker of Hayfield, Ronald (Susan) Spieker of Forest City, Jean (Jim) Purvis of Britt and Larry (Connie) Spieker of Forest City; fourteen grandchildren and their families, Jilane (Chad) Mitchell and children, Jacob, Chadwick and Tehya, Jason (Shannon) Spieker and children, Sara and Buck Weaver, Stacy (Troy) Wirtz and children, Mason, Alexis, Lauren and Reagan, Rebecca (David) Schmelzer and children, Josh and Leo, Derrick (Katie) Spieker and children, Dalton and Mackenzie Pigman and Landon Spieker, Kari (Karl) Wooldridge and children, Kyle and Jada, Hollie Richey (fiance, Don Dallman) and children, Patrick and Brock, Brandi (Ryan) Hiscocks and children, Riley, Parker and Brinley, Rachael (Jacob) Zuehl and children, Kane and Kale, Bobbi (Andy) Bruggeman and children, Maddie and Charlie, Jeremy Purvis (fiancee, Cody Kraft), Jill Purvis, Nicholas Spieker and Ashley Steffen; a brother, Richard (Gladys) Daniels of Houston, TX; sisters-in-law, Rosella Daniels of Britt and Mae Schreiber; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Leon Schreiber, Aug. 31, 1947 and Lawrence Spieker, Oct. 11, 1975; two great grandchildren, Piper and Kevin Schmelzer; and brothers, Lawrence, Clarence and Lester Daniels.

Doris Olson
March 13, 1927 - November 3, 2008
GARNER - Doris C. Olson, 81, of Garner died Monday (November 3, 2008) at the Good Shepherd Health Care Center in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 10 A.M., Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner with Rev. Frank Beaty officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Cataldo Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Doris Charlene Olson, the daughter of Charles and Rose (Goll) Haes, was born March 13, 1927, on a farm west of Garner. She attended the rural schools of Garfield Township and graduated from Garner High School. After high school, she worked as an operator for AT & T in Garner. In 1947, she was married to Duane Olson at her parent's home in Garner. To this union two children were born, Bonnie and Kenneth. They made their home in Garner for a time before moving to Manly. Doris enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Rex) Livingston of Webster City; three grandsons, John (Krissy) Livingston of Walton, KY, Jason Livingston of Florence, KY and Jay (fiancĂŠe, Jessica) Livingston of Waukee; three great grandchildren, John Patrick, Dora and Anella Livingston; two sisters, Pearl Barkema of Garner and Ruth Trampel of Klemme; a brother, Dale (Arlene) Haes of Hobbs, NM; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kenneth in 1974; and brothers-in-law, Orval Barkema and Clarence Trampel.
