John Fox

John C. Fox Jr., 81, of Burlington, died on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 2:46 a.m. in Great River Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 5, 1927 in Burlington he was the son of John C. and Lulu (Cain) Fox. He married Margie Louise Hamilton on May 20, 1951 in Burlington. She died June 13, 2008.
John was a 1945 graduate of Burlington High School, lettering in Music. He was a Power Systems Installer for Western Electric for 38 years and belonged to the Telecom Pioneers. He was a life- long member of First Christian Church ~ Disciples of Christ where he served as an Elder Emeritus.
He served as a Sergeant in the Regular Army Air Corps and a Major in Civil Air Patrol. In Boy Scouts of America he achieved the rank of Life Scout, and was active in Air Scouts and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flying.
Survivors include two daughters; Melodie Fox of Chicago and Susan (Adrian) Miller of Burlington; a son Jay Fox of Rolling Meadows, IL; two grandsons Kyle and Hamilton; and a sister Helen Leffler of West Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margie and two sisters.
A memorial has been established for the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ Building Fund.

Eudora "Dori" Selters
Feb 11, 1933 - Aug 15, 2009
Eudora “Dori” Beryl Selters, 76, of Burlington, died Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 2:40 p.m. in Great River Medical Center.
Born February 11, 1933 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Harry Raymond and Elizabeth Hoambrecker Ward. She married Lawrence Melvin Selters on January 30, 1955 in Burlington. He died August 29, 2002.
Mrs. Selters was a self employed crafter. She previously worked in production at Sylvania and at the pony ride in Crapo Park. She was a volunteer at the Neighborhood center.
She enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting and crafts of all kinds and was especially known for the doll clothes she made. She loved her garden plants and flowers and attending Rivertown Auction but her greatest love were horses.
She was a member of West Avenue Baptist Church where she helped to tutor children.
Survivors include four sons; Kerry L. Selters and his wife Laurie of Burlington, Kevin L. Selters of Pontoosuc, IL, Kent L. Selters and Kenneth L. Selters of Wever; three grandsons; a sister, Harriet Crawford of Moses Lake, WA; four brothers, LeRoy “Roy” Burk of Burlington, Ronald Burk of St. Louis, MO, and Raymond Ward and Earnest Ward both of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lawrence and one sister Marie McIntire.

C. Rosella Daniels
Nov 26, 1922 - Sep 1, 2009
BRITT - C. Rosella Daniels, 86 of Britt died Tuesday (September 1st, 2009) at Cardinal Grove Assisted Living in Garner.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt with Fr. Henry Huber officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Britt.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 P.M., Thursday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt with a CD of A rosary at 8 P.M. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
C. Rosella Daniels, the daughter of Joseph and Ella (Buckley) Chizek, was born November 26th, 1922 on a farm near Garner. She attended rural school near Britt and graduated from Britt High School in 1940. On August 6th, 1946 she was united in marriage to Lester Daniels at Britt. They made their home on a farm north of Duncan where they raised their family. Rosella enjoyed her chickens, sewing, reading, flowers, gardening, and bird watching. Visiting with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews brought her great joy and Rosella looked forward to her regular gatherings with her sisters.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt, was a 25-year member of Catholic Daughters of American, Court 284 St. Catherine of Siena, and belonged to the Britt American Legion Auxiliary.
Rosella is survived by her children, Don (Denise) Daniels of Forest City, Mary (Dave) Millis of Elk Grove Village, IL, Jim Daniels of Britt, and DiAnn (Terry) Jass of Garner; eight grandchildren, Christopher Daniels of Burlingame, CA, Meghan Daniels and Patrick Daniels both of San Francisco, CA, Eric Millis of Elk Grove Village, IL, Nathan Millis of Chicago, IL, Kim (Nick) Upmeyer of Garner and Kelli and Kami Jass of Garner; sisters, Kay (Leonard) Pistek of Britt, Irene Hiscocks of Garner, Rita Stevenson of Mason City, Veronica (Bill) Lawlor of Clear Lake and Marge (Steve) Jano of Berlin, PA; one brother-in-law, Richard (Gladys) Daniels of Houston, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lester, February 23, 1988; brother, Virgil Chizek; brothers-in-law, John Stevenson, Bill Hiscocks, Clarence Daniels, Lawrence Daniels and Lawrence Spieker; sisters-in-law, Hattie Spieker and Irene Daniels; and a nephew, Michael Stevenson.

Howard Schwalbach
Jul 4, 1918 - Sep 18, 2009
Howard was born on July 4, 1918 in St. Paul, Minnesota to the late John J. and Veronica (Aydt) Schwalbach. St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in St. Paul is where Howard was baptized (July 8, 1918) and received his First Holy Communion (March 29, 1927). Howard graduated from North St. Paul High School in 1936.
On November 19, 1940, Howard married Lorraine Ford in North St. Paul. They lived in Seattle Washington where Howard worked as a trained machinist building hydraulic steering for the warships. Howard attended University of Washington-Engineering Science Management War Training Program as well as Dunwoody Institute and became certified in multiple areas of mechanical engineering.
In 1946, Howard and his wife moved to Windom where they raised a family of nine children. Howard, along with Kurt Vogel, purchased Clark Hardware. Later, he became sole owner of Schwalbach Hardware. Howard retired in 1985 at the age of 67. Schwalbach Hardware has continued to be owned and operated by Howard’s son, Michael Schwalbach.
One of Howard’s outstanding accomplishments was serving the City of Windom as a member of the City Council for 32 consecutive years. He was elected to serve on the City Council as alderman-at-large from 1956 to 1988. Howard was also a member of the Windom Area Jaycees; the Chamber of Commerce; Windom State Bank Board member; Windom Industrial Development (WIDC); Minnesota-Dakota’s Retail Hardware Assn; St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church; and the Knights of Columbus. Howard enjoyed gardening, music, golfing, playing cards, square dancing, spending time with his family & friends, and wintering in Mission, Texas. He loved to stay active and was a man of many skills & talents.
Howard was survived by his 9 children: Howard Schwalbach, Jr. (Kathleen) of Flushing, MI, John Schwalbach (Glenda) of Anthem, AZ; Gerald Schwalbach (Susan) of Scottsdale, AZ; Donna Peterson of Plymouth, MN; Mary Holmen of Windom, MN; Patricia Schulz (Robert) of Hartford, WI; Janel Peterson (Rodney) of Omaha, NB; Susan Dwight-Roen (William) of Somerset, WI; Michael Schwalbach of Windom, MN; 27 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; siblings: Kenneth Schwalbach (Jan) of Shoreview, MN; Harvey Schwalbach(Lois) of Hendersonville, NC; Paul Schwalbach (Pat) of Sun City West, AZ; Martha Kohler (Richard) of Hugo, MN; and Donna Marie Schober (Dan) of St Paul, MN; and two sisters-in-law: Ardis Schwalbach, St. Paul, MN; and Rose Schwalbach, Windom, MN.
Howard was preceded in death by: his wife, Lorraine (on January, 24, 2003); his parents; siblings, Donald, John and James Schwalbach, Eleanore Sinn and an infant sister; and sons-in-law, Ronald Peterson and Roger Holmen.
Community service and helping others was an important part of Howard’s life. The family prefers memorials to the Sharing Center, %Joyce Ysker 148 10th Street, Windom, MN.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in St. Paul, MN

Elnora Juhl
May 8, 1923 - Dec 1, 2009
GARNER - Elnora D. Juhl, 86, of Garner died Tuesday (December 1, 2009) at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner with Rev. Dale Glawatz officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Elnora Juhl Memorial Fund.
Elnora Doris Juhl, the daughter of Samuel and Minnie (Jass) Wrede, was born May 8, 1923 on the family farm north of Garner. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner. Elnora attended the rural schools of Concord Township and graduated from Garner High School in 1940. She enjoyed playing sports, especially, softball where she played on a local women's team as pitcher. After graduation she worked at the Garner Leader as a linotype operator and printer for seven years. On February 17, 1951 she was married to Harold Juhl at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They lived in the home she was born in north of Garner where they farmed together until retiring in 1986. Elnora enjoyed woodworking and making things, riding her snowmobile, and spending time with friends and family. She also enjoyed bowling and participated in many local and state bowling tournaments.
Elnora was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, LWML, sang in the choir and belonged to the church quilting group. She also was a member of the North Garner Community Club, Hancock County Chorus and Garner Saddle Club serving as an officer and a Saddle Club Queen.
She is survived by her sister, Edna Boehnke of Edina, MN; foster brother, George Wrede of Chesapeake, VA; sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Beers of Ventura, CA, Fern (Hubert) Branstad of St. James, MN and Lorraine (Robert) Quayle of Forest City; many nieces and nephews that were very special to her; grand nieces and nephews; great grand nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
Elnora was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold, Oct. 10, 2003; brothers-in-law, George Boehnke, Warren Beers, Lawrence Juhl and Ralph Juhl; and sisters-in-law, Ruby Juhl Jante and Emma Juhl.
