CALEY, SHIRLEY JEAN was born November 29, 1936 at Moose-Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Richard P. and Alice Irene (McKean) Flickinger. She married William K. Caley on October 23, 1954 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 17, 1999. Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Cedar Falls High School and was the manager at Nino’s Steak House in Waterloo, Iowa for many years. She died Thursday, October 21, 1999, at her home in Cedar Falls, at 62 years of age.
Shirley is survived by her mother, Alice Flickinger of Cedar Falls; her children, Dave Caley of Lawton, Iowa, Burt Caley of Waterloo, Rick Caley of Cedar Falls and Kay Odneal of Readlyn, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Heather, Amanda, Ryan, B.J., Brittney, Ashley, Cole, Kyle and Tyler; a great-grandson, Christian; and her three sisters, Ruth VerHoef of Portland, Texas, Kathy Myers of Waterloo and Linda Faust of Independence, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her father and a son, Richard Caley.
Memorial services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 25, 1999, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Interment will be at a later date at Fairview Cemetery in Cedar Falls.
CALEY, WILLIAM K. was born May 1, 1928 at Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Bernard E. and Gladys M. (Kielty) Caley. He married Shirley J. Flickinger on October 23, 1954 at Cedar Falls, they were later divorced. William served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and worked at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Iowa, retiring in 1984. He died Sunday, January 17, 1999 in Grundy County, Iowa at 70 years of age.
William is survived by three sons, Dave of Storm Lake, Iowa, Bart of Waterloo and Rick of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Kay Odneal of Readlyn, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Heather, Amanda, Ryan, B.J., Brittney, Ashley, Cole, Kyle, and Tyler; one great grandchild, Christian; one brother, Richard of Cedar Falls and four sisters, Jean Stokes of Cedar Falls, Lois Roberts of Los Angeles, California, Ruth Peterson and Barbara Harder, both of Cedar Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Richard, three brothers, Donald, John and Phillip, three sisters, Dorothy Ward, Betty Manley and Jane Foster.
Memorial services were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 1999, at the funeral home.
CAMARATA, ROSS 55, of Rochester, Minnesota and formerly of Cedar Falls died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. He was born June 4, 1949 at Waterloo, Iowa the son of August “Pudge” and Evelyn (Guyer) Camarata. He married Chari Ann Sheerer in 1969 in Cedar Falls, Iowa and they were later divorced. Ross worked as a pressman at the Dixon, Illinois newspaper for many years.
Survivors include his son, Damon Camarata of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; his father, August “Pudge” Camarata of Hudson, Wisconsin; his mother, Evelyn Frink of Waterloo, Iowa and his sister, Mimi Camarata of Cedar Falls. Ross was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ross & Betty Guyer and Phil & Fern Camarata; and his uncle, Philip Camarata.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, at St. John Lutheran Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to Tri-County Humane Society in Dixon, Illinois.
CARLSON, BEULAH MAVIS (GETTY) was born July 28, 1913 at New Rockford, North Dakota the daughter of Henry & Martha (Horning) Getty. She married Russell Carlson January 27, 1935 in Cedar Falls. He died September 24, 2001. Beulah was very active in her church having served as a Sunday School Teacher and a Lay Leader. She died Thursday, October 23, 2003 at her home at the age of 90 years.
Survivors include one son, Donald (Nancy) Carlson, of Waverly, Iowa; three daughters, Donna (Tom) Osborn of New Hartford, Iowa, Virginia (David) Ingersoll of Cedar Falls, and Carol (Keith) McGavern of Shawnee, Oklahoma, 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and three sisters, Esther (Tom) Stout of Foley, Alabama, Carol (Barney) South of St. George, Utah, and Olive (Albert) Grosse of Waterloo. Beulah was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Paul Getty, and four sisters, Dorothy, Ruth & Florence Getty, and Eunice Frazier.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2003 at Washington Chapel United Methodist Church with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. A memorial fund will be established.
CARLSON, RUSSELL DONALD was born January 30, 1912 in Dewar, Iowa the son of Rueben Earl and Josephine (Miller) Carlson. He married Beulah Getty on January 27, 1935 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He farmed all of his life the Waverly, Janesville, and Cedar Falls areas. Russell was very active in Washington Chapel United Methodist Church where he had served as a Trustee. He died Monday, September 24, 2001 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa at the age of 89 years.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah, of Cedar Falls; one son, Donald, of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Donna Osborn of New Hartford, Iowa, Virginia Ingersoll of Cedar Falls, and Carol McGavern of Shawnee, Oklahoma, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, one brother, Ruby Carlson and one sister, Florence Myszka, both of Cedar Falls.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ralph and Lester Carlson, and one sister, Bessie Myszka.
Services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2001 at Washington Chapel United Methodist Church with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. A memorial fund will be established.
CARNEY, ARLENE MAE was born May 9, 1916, the daughter of Claude and Amelia (Ebert) Carroll. She was a graduate of Frederika High School in Frederika, Iowa. Arlene married Burton L. Carney on May 30, 1936 in Waterloo, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 22, 2000. Arlene died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at her home in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at 86 years of age.
She is survived by her children, Gerald B. Carney of Waverly, Iowa and Karen Boyd (Gary) of Corpus Christi, Texas; four grandchildren, Jason Carney of Iowa City, Iowa, Sara Carney of Waverly, and Erin and Ryan Boyd, both of Corpus Christi; two brothers, Keith Carroll (Selma) of Frederika and Dr. James Carroll (Mary) of Cedar Falls, and three sisters, Ruth Johnson of Waterloo, Mary Jean Rathbone of Cedar Falls and June Weber (Cornelius) of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, parents and four brothers, Theron, Robert, Richard and Junior Carroll.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Waterloo with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to Ascension Lutheran Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
CARNEY, BURTON L. was born July 21, 1913 near Fredericksburg, Iowa, the son of William and Carrie (Taylor) Carney. He married Arlene Carroll on May 30, 1936 at Waterloo, Iowa, they were wed for over 63 years . Burton was a graduate of Frederika High School, where he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. He was a foreman at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Iowa for forty years. Burton was active in his church, and enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing. He died Saturday, January 22, 2000, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, at 86 years of age.
Burton is survived by his wife Arlene, of Cedar Falls; his son, Gerald and his wife Barb of Waverly, Iowa; his daughter, Karen Boyd and her husband Gary of Corpus Christi, Texas; four grandchildren, Jason and Sara Carney, both of Waverly, and Erin and Ryan Boyd, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; a brother, Lowell of Danville, Kentucky, and two sisters, LaMena Dickman of Clarkesville, Iowa and Grace Starr of La Porte City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clair and Melvin Carney, and four sisters, Bernice Sullivan, Mildred Parson, Helen Heidemann and Harriet Jensen.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2000, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Waterloo, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to Ascension Lutheran Church.
CASPER, MERLE HUMMEL was born February 9, 1907 in Hudson, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Carrie Mae (Makinster) Mastain. She married Daniel L. Hummel on March 9, 1927 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1967. Merle married James A. Casper on January 25, 1968 in Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death in 1979. She died Saturday, June 5, 1999 at the Western Home in Cedar Falls at 92 years of age.
Merle is survived by her two daughters, Arlene Glassner of Anchorage, Alaska and Karen Dinger of Cupertino, California; her three sons, Ivan Hummel of Reinbeck, Iowa, Jerry Hummel of Cedar Falls and Allen Hummel of Reno, Nevada; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren; and her sister, Helen Otto of Cedar Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands; a son, Harold Hummel; four sisters, Ethel Williams, Edith Van Vleet, Mae Mastain and Bertha Mumm; and five brothers, Floyd, Hobert, Garreth, Gerald and Donald Mastain.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m.Tuesday, June 8, 1999 at the Western Home Chapel with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the Western Home.
CAULK, GRETA M. was born on September 29, 1929 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the daughter of John J. and Christa (Christiansen) Langskov. She married Kenneth Walter Caulk on January 28, 1963 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1981. Greta died Tuesday, December 29 1998 at Western Home Martin Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa at 69 years of age.
She is survived by one son, Dick Spilger of Atalissa, Iowa; grandchildren; her mother, Christa Langskov of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one brother, John M. Langskov of Walnut Creek, California and two sisters, Esther Case of Waterloo, Iowa and Donna Powers of Minnetonka, Minnesota.
Greta was preceded in death by her father and husband, Kenneth.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m Saturday, January 2, 1999 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls with burial at Fairview Cemetery, also in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.
CAWELTI, RALPH C. was born May 2, 1920 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Charles and Emma (Parman) Cawelti. He was a 1938 graduate of Cedar Falls High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College. Ralph served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in England during W.W. II. He married Jean Pendergast on August 6, 1949 in Waterloo, Iowa. Ralph was a tax accountant at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo for 28 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and the Rath Management Club. Ralph died Wednesday, May 12, 1999 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo at 79 years of age.
He is survived by his wife Jean, of Cedar Falls; his son, Gary of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Sandra Remmert of Cedar Falls and Mary Ann Collins of Lamar, Missouri; six grandsons and his two brothers, Elmer Cawelti of Cedar Falls and Harland Cawelti of Torrence, California.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leslie Cawelti.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 14, 1999 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the St. Patrick Forward in Faith fund or the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 fund.
CHANDLER, BEATRICE M. was born January 20, 1920 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Hannah (Hanson) Star. She worked in the office at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo for several years prior to her marriage to Henry Chandler on February 28, 1941 in Waterloo. Beatrice died Saturday, February 9, 2002, at the Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center of Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls, at 82 years of age.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Chandler of Cedar Falls; two sons, William Chandler and his wife Teri of Cedar Falls and Douglas Chandler and his wife Teresa of Auburn, California; three daughters, Kathryn Hatch of Tucson, Arizona, Barbara Boudewyns of Cedar Falls and Mary Bruhn and her husband Tom of Newton, Iowa, and six grandchildren, Shelly and Jason Chandler, Laura and Jennifer Boudewyns and Amanda and Shane Chandler.
Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Star.
Memorial services were 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls with inurnment at Willow Lawn Cemetery in Plainfield, Iowa at a later date. There will be no visitation. Her body was cremated. Memorials may be directed to the church.
CHAPIN, STELLA EMILY was born on April 25, 1929 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Claude and Susie E. (Dobson) Chapin. She worked for many years as a Bookkeeper and Office Manager for Allbee’s Printing in Waterloo. Stella died on Friday, September 4, 1998 at the Cedar Falls Western Home Martin Center at 69 years of age.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Lucille Chapin; five nieces, Linda Fobian and Claudia Meyer of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Linda Bales and Peggy Devincentis of Texas and Kathy Spragy of Florida and four nephews, Ross Chapin of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Dick and Larry Chapin of Texas and Daryl Chapin of Des Moines, Iowa.
Stella was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Maude Brown and her three brothers, Don, Jim and Emmett Chapin.
Services were held on September 8, 1998 at the funeral home, with burial at Mt. Vernon Township Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa.
CHASE, WILLIAM "BILL" JOHN was born January 1, 1944 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the son of Alva and Mabel (Greathead) Chase. He married Molly Williams September 17, 1966 in Brandon, Iowa. Bill was president of Petersen Brothers Drywall Construction, Inc. He died Thursday, May 16, 2002 at Sartori Memorial Hospital at the age of 58 years.
Survivors include his wife, Molly, of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Carri Chase, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Chad Chase of Cedar Falls and Curt Chase of Shell Rock; his mother, Mabel Chase, of Fayette; one brother, Charles Chase of North Fort Myers, Florida; and one sister, Patricia Morine of Lester Prairie, Minnesota. Bill was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2002 at First United Methodist Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial fund will be established.
