Wilfred Bowers
Wilfred Lininger Bowers, 91, of Manchester, passed away at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010. Funeral services were held Oct. 25 at United Methodist Church in Manchester, with the Rev. Roger Henry officiating. Interment, with military rites was at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Survivors include two sons, James of Phoenix, Ariz., and Doug (Rose) of Waukesha, Wis.; three daughters, Janice (Harold) England of Cedar Rapids, Deb (Tobe) Werner of Manchester and Paula (Charlie) Franks of Ely; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren (another one due in December); five stepgrandchildren; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Violet Donohoe
Violet "Vi" Donohoe, 67, of West Branch, a beloved wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospital. Funeral Services for Vi were held Oct. 21, at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, West Branch, with Father Dennis Martin officiating. Burial was at St. Bridget's Cemetery, Nolan Settlement, Solon. Violet "Vi" Donohoe, daughter of Charles Joseph and Jessie Cleo (VanDusen) Zousel, was born May 22, 1943, in Cedar Valley, Iowa. She was a 1961 graduate of West Branch High School. Vi was united in marriage to Bernard "Ben" Patrick Donohoe at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in West Branch on July 19, 1969.
Vi owned Vi's Stylist from 1967-1971 and then was a teacher's aide at West Branch Schools until 2001. She was a member of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, past member of the Women of the Moose and Altar & Rosary Society and belonged to a card club.
Vi is loved and survived by her son, Chuck (Becky) Donohoe of Solon, grandchildren, Bernard "Ben" Bailey, and Kyler Donohoe; sisters-in-law Velva Zousel of Cedar Valley, Iowa, Vera Zousel of Buffalo, Minn., Nancy Donohoe of Tipton, and Dana Lou Donohoe of Tipton; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jessie Zousel; husband, Bernard Donohoe on Nov. 2, 1979; and brothers, Ardell, Fred, and Charles "Jr" Zousel. A memorial fund has been established in Vi's memory.
Janet Eldeen
Janet M. Eldeen, 58, of North Liberty, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Cremation services have been provided through Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City.
Eric Hahn
Eric Earl Hahn, 56, of Lisbon, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at University Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services were held Oct. 23 at Asbury Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids with Pastor Ed Powers officiating. A luncheon followed the services at the church. Arrangements were by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. Burial will be at a later date.
Eric was born on Dec. 24, 1953, the son of Richard and Helen (Malatek) Hahn. He worked at Goss for 25 years. He was a caring, loving person and will be in our hearts forever.
Surviving are his mother, Helen Hahn of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Donald Sipe of Lisbon and Michael Sipe of LaJolla, Calif.; two aunts, Margaret Havlik of Solon and Dorothy Wiblishouser of Oxford Junction; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, T.J.
He was preceded in death by his father; and grandparents Catherine and Rudy Malatek and Mary and Clyde Hahn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the animal shelter in Cedar Rapids in memory of Eric.
Lumir Klimes
Lumir "Curly" Klimes, 87, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Ely, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services were held Oct. 22 at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with Pastor J. Richard Ernst officiating. Burial was at Sulek Cemetery, rural Shueyville, with military honors by American Legion Hanford Post 5.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; daughters, Linda Sellers (Richard) Drake of Monticello and Janice Stone Michel of Waunakee, Wis.; granddaughters, Anita Sellers of Waunakee, Wis., and Hollee Stone (Thomas) McInnis of Neenah, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Berkley McInnis and Jack McInnis; and several nephews and nieces, Barbara Dietz (Donald) Hennings, Charles (Twila) Dietz, Raymond (Mary) Dietz, Larry Klimes, Darlene Jones, Shirley Kurth, Richard Klimes and Janelle Sanchez. Also surviving are stepgrandchildren, Melinda McElmeel and Richard Drake Jr.; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Alexandra and Haley McElmeel.
Lumir was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George Klimes Jr. and Emil Klimes; sister, Sadie Klimes Dietz; son-in-law, Jeffrey Michel; and nephews, Laverne Klimes and Carl Klimes.
Born Sept. 22, 1923, on a farm where the Rockwell Collins hangar is now located at the Cedar Rapids airport, Lumir was the son of George and Clara (Schultz) Klimes Sr. Lumir served his country from Feb. 23, 1945, to Dec. 23, 1946, in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was stationed in the Philippines and Korea. Lumir received the Asiatic/Pacific Medal and Good Conduct Medal. On Jan. 15, 1947, Lumir was united in marriage to Anna Clara Louvar at the Presbyterian Church in Osceola, Ark.
He was a farmer and worked for Colonial Bakery, FMC Corporation and was a security guard.
Lumir was a member of American Legion Hanford Post 5. His hobbies were investments, reading, music, playing the trumpet and raising pumpkins.
A memorial fund has been established in Lumir's memory.
John E. Morgan
John E. Morgan, 70, of North Liberty, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, following a long illness. Memorial Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin. Following the service, the family will greet friends and a brunch will be provided. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The John Morgan Memorial Fund.
John is survived by his wife Karen; two daughters, Jonda Eicher and Holly Whitmore; a son, Andrew Morgan; two sisters, Betty Herman and Clara Sparks; a brother-in-law, Martin Myers, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Dr. David Nelson
Dr. David J. Nelson, 63, of Solon, passed Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, following a brief battle with biliary Cholangiocarcinoma. He was surrounded by his family members in his home. The family is having a private celebration of his life.
Alyce Redel
Alyce Hastings Redel, 98, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at the Anamosa Care Center. Graveside services were held Oct. 22, at the Maple Hill Cemetery, Cromwell, Iowa. The Rev. Laurie Riley officiated at the service.

Surviving are her son, James H. (Margaret) Redel of Anamosa; two grandsons, Dennis (Jeanne) Redel of Red Oak, and Gary (Kathy) Redel of Johnstown, Colo.; and two granddaughters, Roxann Schrader of Riverton, Utah, and Connie Reffert of Lincoln, Neb.
She was fortunate to also have five stepgrandchildren, Nancy Nedemeyer of Anamosa, Tim (Lynn) Woodley of Aurora, Ore., Jeff (Sam) Woodley of Thompson, Danny (Sarah) Woodley of Shell Rock, and Kristi (Jeff) Flansburg of Swisher.
Alyce had the pleasure of 17 great-grandchildren, who brought much joy and laughter to her life. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Arthur.
Alyce was born Oct. 11, 1912, in Chicago. She was the daughter of Thomas and Edna (Stalker) Hastings. Alyce moved to the Cedar Rapids area as a very young girl. She married Arthur Charles Redel on Oct. 26, 1930, in Seattle, and enjoyed 55 wonderful years of marriage. During this time Alyce stayed active working first for Milo Hanzlik & Clinton Schafer Attorneys at Law for more than three years, then for Dr. Ben Woverton and Dr. Robert Sedlacek for more than six years. She was also an officer in Linn County Women's Medical Association and a member of the Cedar Rapids/Marion Women's Medical Association.
Alyce was passionate about golf and passed that love of the game on to her family. She was a member of the Cedar Rapids/Marion Golf Association and was the third president of Squaw Creek Women's Gold Association.
Alyce was very grateful to all who helped her and visited her. She and Art had many great friends along the way. She was especially appreciative of the staffs at Anamosa Care Center and Garnett Place in Cedar Rapids. She loved so many fun things in life, playing bridge, crossword puzzles, watching golf, football, music - Pete Fountain, cooking, traveling, supporting and spending time with her family and especially her little dog, Binky.
Alyce will be missed greatly and her competitive spirit will live on and on within her family and among her friends. Alyce showed great strength, courage and character throughout her life and leaves a legacy of memories and will bring joy forever.
Susanna Breno
Susanna "Sue" Breno, 55, of Iowa City died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at the home of her daughter surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services were held Oct. 11 at the High Point City Church in Iowa City. Burial was Oct. 12 at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her memory. Online condolences may be sent through the web @www.gayandciha.com.
Susanna Gorvin Breno was born Dec. 18, 1954, in Iowa City, the daughter of James and Anna Mary (Spratt) Gorvin. She married Joseph Breno II on June 8, 1973. The couple lived in Colorado for over 20 years where they raised their two children, Angel and Joseph III. She loved caring for her children and husband, and in later years being grandma was the greatest! She was a member of the High Point City Church, where she enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School every year. She was also a member of the ladies auxiliary. She was also an avid sewer and enjoyed cooking meals for her family.
Her family includes her husband, Joseph Breno II; daughter, Angel Pokorny (Mike) of Iowa City; son, Joseph Breno III (Melissa) of Johnstown, Colo.; six grandchildren, Aspen, Skyler, Breckyn, J.C., Allyana and Keeagan; siblings, Pam and her husband, Phillip Escher of Wellman, Pat Grosvenor and her husband, John of Coralville, Mic Gorvin of Iowa City, Paul Gorvin and his wife, Tami of Coralville, Connie Mullinnix and her husband, Roger of Iowa City, and Don Gorvin of Coralville; sisters-in-laws, Cindy Gorvin of Solon and Maureen Irish-Gorvin of Iowa City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Paula Gorvin and Barb Irish-Gorvin; brothers Bruce Gorvin and James Gorvin II; and brother-in-law, John Grosvenor.
