Gerald "Jerry" H. Cave
Gerald "Jerry" H. Cave, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Memorial Mass was held Oct. 13 at St. Jude's Catholic Church. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is handling arrangements.
Gerald was born March 8, 1928, in White City, Ill., the son of Clarence and Ethel (Cooligan) Cave. He married Anna Mae Fagan on Nov. 21, 1953, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tipton. He served in United States Navy for two years, stationed in San Diego. Jerry was a self-employed carpenter and floor covering installer for over 25 years. He was a resident manager for 16th Avenue Storage for 27 years.
Jerry was passionate about golf and was a founding member of Hillcrest Country Club. He served as club president and was very involved in its development. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mount Vernon and also attended St. Jude's Catholic Church.
Gerald is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Anna; children, Brenda (Reg) Eberle of Cedar Rapids and Jeff (Christine) Cave of Solon; grandchildren, Christopher, David and Allysa Eberle, Kyle, Kelsey and Kendra Cave; and a brother, Kenny (Janet) Cave of Lisbon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Geneva Cook, Maxine McHenry and Lois Brecht; and a grandson, Andrew Eberle.

Steven Henke
Steven Arthur Henke, 62, of Chandler, Ariz, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, in his home. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. at The Kirkwood Room at Governor's Ridge, 515 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City. Lensing Cremation and Funeral Service is handling arrangements.
Steven was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on Sept. 10, 1948, to Arthur Gale and Florence Marie (Crosby) Henke. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High in 1966 and the University of Iowa in 1970 in filmmaking. He worked over a 35-year span at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, as film lab director and the University of Iowa Audiovisual Center as film editor. He retired from the university in 2004 and moved to Arizona to be warm.
He was an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed gardening, keeping track of his investments and communicating with his five children about their active and diverse lives.
Steve is survived by his five children, Saffron A. Henke (Eric Stone) of Davenport, Sara A. Henke of Iowa City, S. Alex Henke (Kenneth Orr) of Palos Hills, Ill., S. Adam Henke (Megan Mangelsen) of North Liberty and S. Ariana Henke (Larry Twitty Jr.) of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Alessandra Elyse Orr and Gionni Chance Twitty; former wife, Susan A. Henke; four siblings, Barbara Henke of Iowa City, Kathryn Henke of Berkeley, Calif., Douglas Henke (Virginia Determan) of Iron Mountain, Mich., and Kristen Henke (Michael Audit) of Oshkosh, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

R. Ellen Jones
R. Ellen Jones, 85, of Iowa City, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence.
Funeral services were held Oct. 13, at the First Christian Church in Coralville. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Ellen was born July 13, 1925, in Keswick, Iowa, the daughter of Ivan and Gladys (Parke) Thompson. She attended schools in Iowa City, graduating from City High School in 1943, and later she received her BA degree from the University of Iowa. Prior to her marriage to M. Dean Jones on August 28, 1951, she taught home economics classes in the Montezuma School District. Following her marriage, she maintained their home and cared for her husband and children. She was always the silent push behind her husband's numerous business interests throughout the years. Ellen was very active in the community in volunteering, supporting numerous organizations and her church. She and her family have been longtime members of First Christian Church, she was a member of the Home Economics Society at the University of Iowa, PEO Chapter E, TTT, an avid bridge and euchre player and a strong supporter of University of Iowa Athletics, having established the Dean & Ellen Jones Athletic Scholarship Fund.
Her family includes a son, Charles and his wife, Bev Jones of Bloomington, Minn.; daughters-in-law, Lisa Cravens of Ft. Aransas, Texas, and Ethel Jones of North Liberty; grandchildren, Jerry (J) Martin Jones, Jon Dean Jones, Jeffrey Martin Jones, Tiffany Marie Quintana, Chad Jones and Scott Van Oss; three great-grandchildren, Dustin, Crystal and Spencer; sister, Doris King of Waterloo and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean; sons, Michael and Jerry; five brothers and sisters.

Shirley Simmons
Shirley A. Simmons, 83, of Walker, died Thursday evening, Oct. 7, 2010, at West Village Care Center, Independence. Funeral services were held Oct. 11 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walker, with the Rev. Ardel Barta officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Spencer's Grove.
Shirley was born Aug 31, 1927, in Independence, the daughter of Raymond R. and Irene E. (Weber) Strang. She was a 1945 graduate of the Walker High School and received her registered nursing degree from Mercy School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids in 1948. She was employed with Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids for a couple of years. On June 26, 1950, she was united in marriage to Jay W. Simmons in Walker. In 1971, Shirley became employed with Peoples Memorial Hospital in Independence until her retirement in 1992.
She is survived by her husband, Jay Simmons, Walker; three children, Jeanie (Roger) Sturtz, Urbana, Barbara Simmons, North Wales, Pa., and Jake Simmons, Walker; two granddaughters, Peggy Coleson, Cedar Rapids, and Amelia Wood, North Wales, Pa.; a great-grandson, Carter Coleson; and two sisters, Mary Jane Gustoff, Center Point, and Sharon Drahozal, Solon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Tony Simmons; and a sister, Patricia Frederick.
Edna Seeman
Edna A. Seeman, 85, a resident of Evergreen Estates II, died of a sudden illness Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010. Memorial services were held Oct. 12 at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Mark Halvorson. Her body was donated to the University of Iowa.
Survivors include her son, Jerry (Janet) Happel of North Liberty; her stepchildren, Donald (Rosie) Seeman of Lisbon, Dean (Sandy) Seeman of Cedar Rapids, William Seeman of Fairbanks, Alaska, Patricia Hampshire of Center Junction and Ellen Celestine of Opelousas, La.; two grandchildren, Julie Happel of Chicago and Jennifer (Jay) Fetzer of Solon; great-grandson, Ben Fetzer; many stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; sister, Viola Coffelt of Perryville, Mo.; and two sisters-in-law, Donna Hudson of Cedar Rapids and Emma Hudson of Perryville, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, Edwin Happel and Walter Seeman; seven brothers; three sisters; and a stepson, David Seeman.
Edna was born Nov. 4, 1924, the daughter of Prince and Ida Mae (Reddick) Hudson, in Silverlake, Mo. For 38 years she worked at Rockwell Collins, retiring as a plant inspector. Edna enjoyed dancing and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church and the Eagles Club.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Edna.
Ethel Rozinek
Ethel Mae Rozinek, 91, of rural West Branch, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at Mercy Iowa City. Services were held Oct. 14 at Brosh Chapel in Solon, with burial following in Morse Cemetery.
Ethel was born April 5, 1919, in rural Johnson County, the daughter of Albert and Alice (Wheeler) Kabela. She married Joseph Rozinek on Sept. 22, 1938. Ethel "Little Raisin" and Joe "Big Raisin" farmed together in the Ely, Solon and West Branch area for many years. She enjoyed cooking, bowling, playing euchre, fishing, going gambling and spending time with her family.
Ethel is survived by her children, Albert (Charlene) Rozinek of West Branch, Robert "Bum" (Mary) Rozinek of Whittier, David "Butch" (Marcia) Rozinek of West Branch, Pauline "Baba" (Ed) Greazel of Iowa City, and Paul "Doc" (Kathleen) Rozinek of North Liberty; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband Joseph; brothers, Roy Kabela and Phillip Kabela; sisters Anne Brogan, Mearl Kofron and Helen Tompkins; and two infant sisters, Millie and Leona.

Harry Clark
Harry G. Clark, 94, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Northbrook Manor. As per Harry's wishes, private family services will be held in Czech National Cemetery. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Harry was born Mar. 23, 1916, in Ely, the son of Claude and Bessie (Cech) Clark. He married Martha Brickner on June 15, 1939. Harry worked as a building engineer for the Cedar Rapids school systems for over 28 years. He also owned and operated Lindy's Restaurant for five years.
Harry is survived by his sons, David (Karla) and Gerald (Brenda) Clark, both of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Greg) Glimco of Chicago, Any (Dave) Dighton of Center Point, Jeff (Tracy) Clark of Ely, and Dan (Sharon) Clark, Bill Clark and Scott Clark, all of Cedar Rapids; and 10 great-grandchildren, Joey, Nick, Danielle, Colin, Jack, Kelly, Kerry, Matthew, Jordan and Zachary.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Martha, who died May 8, 2006; and a sister, Marge Rompot.
